Why still no comments about the meeting Thursday night? Do we have to wait to read about it in the paper?

Yep, that appears as if it's going to be the case doesn't it.

However, unless there was a crowd, and they overwhelmingly supported the tax, I doubt we will see, or hear much about it from the NGN.

Our educational money is being sent to poor counties? Who needs education?

Our children can quit school and get a job at the NEW gold, excuse me, golf course, the Byron Reece (useless) Memorial or as maintenance workers at Meeks Park. OOPS pass on that, convicts work for free.

Of those 3, I can only see one that provides multiple use and that would be Meeks Park.

How about the seasonal use of the horse arena(which set's empty the majority of the time) and a wonderful canning plant, which is only open part of the year, although the guy in charge get's paid year round.

How many of us will get use from the Reece memorial and just exactly how many golfers are in this county?

Can anyone give me a count of exactly how many new jobs, these places, have generated for tax-payers?

Extravagance won't buy you an education, but it will cost you educational dollars.

Should have read:

Lamars main Grand Jury reports OCGA 36-1-7 consist of 8 pages of comparing Union County Millage Rate with the other Georgia counties.

After that Lamar must have distracted the Grand Jury to the point they did not notice he was using a 2011 Budget report to match up with his 2012 graphs.

Everyone go to the meeting Thursday and let the click know that we do not want to extend the sales tax. They are trying to sugar coat it with all these sweet ideals, things they promised years ago when it passed the first time. We have yet to get the fine arts building and other things. So why should we believe them this time. Waste of time and money.
Georgia law states:

c) The resolution calling for the imposition of the tax and the ballot question shall each describe:

(1) The specific capital outlay projects to be funded, or the specific debt to be retired, or both, if applicable;

(2) The maximum cost of such project or projects and, if applicable, the maximum amount of debt to be retired, which cost and amount of debt shall also be the maximum amount of net proceeds to be raised by the tax; and

(3) The maximum period of time, to be stated in calendar years or calendar quarters and not to exceed five years.

I'm curious. Did all the projects on the current sales tax proposal get funded? Were they completed? If not completed, why? If they ended up costing more than was stated in the ballot question, would that be in conflict with the Georgia state law where it states that the ballot question must state the maximum cost of the project or projects?

I said Georgia state law but I think that it's in the Georgia Constitution, Article VIII, Section VI, Paragraph IV,(b)(3). Also, I make no accusations. I'm interested as to how the E-SPLOST works, not only in theory, but in practice.

The amount of sales tax actually collected does not always match what is projected. When the economy goes bad, there is not as much sales tax collected as expected so all projects can't be completed.

Was there a $4 million surplus from the current tax?
I noticed that the ballot says something about $20 million in revenue to be generated to go toward various projects. If I'm correct, the constitution says that the projects maximum costs are to be stated? It seems to me that one has to make an implication that the maximum costs will be $20 million. Does that comply with the constitution requirement? It also seems to me that the wording is to play down that it's a tax and play up that it's a revenue generator. Politicians never cease to amaze me.

I think why the big shots are wanting the tax to continue is soo they won't have to pay as much property tax, theirself. You know , let "everybody" contribute. Because your average land owner in Union Co. Don't own the amount of land as the big shots. Just think before you vote, another field house? Really? The one that's there is not 3 years old . Why tax everybody just so the coaches can have a new hiding place. New buses? What is wrong with maintaining the ones they got . Take care of them. Slow them down! Do the tax payers know about the buses that has been wrecked from following to close and going to fast behind each other? I just don't see the need for continuing the tax.
