Obama says he wants to start on new immigration law this year
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama speak at Cinco de Mayo celebration at the White House.CAPTIONBy JEWEL SAMAD, AFP/Getty ImagesPresident Obama said tonight he wants to pursue "comprehensive immigration reform" this year, seeking to clarify comments he made last week suggesting the issue may be too politically difficult for the near term.
"I want to begin work this year, and I want Democrats and Republicans to work with me," Obama said at a Cinco de Mayo celebration in the White House Rose Garden.
Obama said a new system that combines tougher border protection with a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants will stave off problems like the new Arizona law that allows police to stop people they suspect of being illegal.
"We can't start singling out people because of who they look like, or how they talk, or how they dress," he said.
Obama said he wanted to re-affirm his commitment to immigration reform "just in case anybody's confused." Some of the confusion was created by Obama himself after he said last week that immigration might be too challenging a political issue for a Congress that has already handled a major stimulus bill and health care.
"I know there may not be an appetite immediately to dive into another controversial issue," Obama told reporters about Air Force One last week.
Tonight in the Rose Garden, Obama revised and extended his remarks.
"Look, of course, it's going to be tough -- that's the truth," Obama explained to the largely Hispanic crowd. "We need bipartisan support. But it can be done, and it needs to be done."
The prospects for a new immigration law remain murky at best.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, who had suggested moving immigration ahead of an energy bill, backed off that idea last week.
And one key Republican, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, said he would walk away from talks with Democrats on both energy and immigration if the latter issue is put atop the legislative schedule.
Obama said comprehensive reform should involve tighter border protections along with demands that the existing 11 million or so illegal immigrants pay fines, learn English, and then "get in line" for legal status.
The current immigration system is "broken" and Americans "are right to be frustrated," Obama said. But the solution is not the new Arizona police stop law that amounts to racial profiling, and could turn legal immigrants "into subjects of suspicion and abuse."
Politicians in both parties want to attract members of the growing Hispanic population, but are also leery of voters who regard comprehensive immigration approaches as amnesty for lawbreakers.

Obamacare To Encourage Employers to Hire Immigrants Over Citizens
Actually, it’s a combination of Obamacare and the immigration reform bill that has been introduced into Congress.
Under the terms of the immigration reform bill, nearly 11 million illegals will be granted a provisional legal status to live and work in the US. However, that legal status will mean that they will be considered to be the same as people classified as ‘not lawfully present’ under Obamacare.
The significance of this is that provisionally legal immigrants (still illegal in my book), are not required under Obamacare to obtain health insurance nor are they eligible for Obamacare tax credits. Employers who hire them will not be required to provide health benefits for them and the employers will not be penalized for not providing health coverage.
When you boil all of this down, employers will reap up to $3,000 in savings by hiring an illegal, oops, I mean a provisionally legal immigrant over hiring a US citizen and this is how it works:
“Employers who don’t offer insurance face fines based on full-time staffing levels, regardless of whether the workers are immigrants or U.S. citizens. However, employers who offer insurance can face fines if the coverage costs workers more than 9.5 percent of their pay. If the insurance is too costly, the worker will become eligible for Obamacare.”
“The employer then would be charged by the government, up to $3,000 per full-time worker who receives Obamacare subsidies. But since legalized immigrants wouldn’t be eligible for Obamacare, their employers would not be fined for hiring them and not subsidizing their insurance coverage.”
As an American citizen that has been out of work for any length of time, how would you feel if you knew that an employer hired a provisionally legal immigrant over you because it saved him money with Obamacare?
I would be irate! But once again we see where our liberal government extends more benefits to illegal immigrants than they do to American citizens. The combination of Obamacare and the immigration reform bill will only serve to make it harder for American citizens to find work and in some cases keep their jobs. Imagine competing with a new ‘legal’ workforce of several million people who will cost employers less to hire than you.
Let me put this in perspective: A company has 50 full time workers, all US citizens, working for them. The immigration reform bill passes and becomes law. The employer discovers that he could replace 20-30 of his workers with provisionally legal immigrants and thus save the company up to $60,000-$90,000 a year by not having to provide them with health coverage. In a struggling economy, that’s a sizable annual savings. The end result is another 20-30 Americans losing their jobs to Obama’s illegal aliens, and this probably won’t be the only company to take advantage of the situation either.
The immigration reform bill is a very dangerous piece of legislation that will only hurt the American people and economy. There is only one reason for the immigration reform bill and it is to secure 11 million Democratic voters. Think about it!

Scary, but we agree on this one.
We need a Constitutional Amendment that says unless your parents were here legally and permanently you're not a citizen just because fate, or poor immigration controls caused you to be born here.
We also need to imprison any employer who knowingly hires a person here illegally.
But corporate profits decline - so rich people get mad;
Food prices go up - so everyone gets mad.
Therefore, nothing changes.

I'm agreeing with you.
Obama and the Corporate Tools we call Congress need to pass legislation sending anyone who hires am illegal alien to prison.
And we need to accept that if farm workers are paid living wages the price of farm products will increase.
Too bad - so sad.
I'm tired of subsidizing corporate agribusiness by allowing them to hire illegal aliens at wages less than Americans would demand, the providing government healthcare and benefits to their workers because they don't get laid enough to provide their own.

"Laid enough" !!
That's either spellcheck gone crazy or a Freudian confession !

Probably your biggest problem, not getting laid enough. Might even get your head screwed on right.

USDA Flyer: We Don't Check Immigration Status for Food Stamps
A government watchdog group has discovered that the United States government is advising Spanish-speaking residents that they need not declare their immigration status to qualify for food stamps.
Judicial Watch obtained the Spanish-language flyers through a Freedom of Information Act request and announced on Thursday that the "promotion of the food stamp program, now known as 'SNAP'(Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), includes a Spanish-language flyer provided to the Mexican Embassy by the USDA.
A statement on the flyer—emphasized in bold and underlined—reads,“You need not divulge information regarding your immigration status in seeking this benefit for your children.”
Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said of this discovery, the "USDA is actively working with the Mexican government to promote food stamps for illegal aliens." This implication, he asserted, "should have a direct impact on the fate of the immigration bill now being debated in Congress."
“These disclosures further confirm the fact that the Obama administration cannot be trusted to protect our borders or enforce our immigration laws," Fitton said. "And the coordination with a foreign government to attack the policies of an American state is contemptible.”
Sen. John Thune (R-SD) and Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) are working on a bill that would cut such programs.
“Since President Obama came into office, SNAP participation has increased at 10 times the rate of job creation, the annual spending on SNAP has doubled, and one in seven Americans now participates in SNAP,” Thune said.“This explosive growth in both the SNAP enrollment and federal cost of the program is alarming and requires lawmakers to take cost-effective legislative control measures.”

Ron Paul: Gang of 8 Hiding National ID Card in Immigration Reform
While his son, Senator Rand Paul, has taken most of the national spotlight away from his father, Ron Paul has not stopped advancing his “Campaign for Liberty.” Ron Paul and his supporters have built up a massive database of “liberty loving” supporters since the organization launched in 2008, following his second unsuccessful campaign for the Presidency. And today, he is robo-calling his supporters to sign a petition against the inclusion of a National ID card in immigration reform negotiations. From the petition:
Right now, freedom-stealing Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY), banding together with other statists from both parties, are scheming to sneak a massive power grab into a new “immigration reform” bill.
If passed, it would require every American to obtain a National ID card to work legally in the U.S.–and you can bet it will be only a matter of time until they’re required even for simple purchases.
Ron Paul calls the current proposals “by far the worst national ID card the statists have come up with yet.” And he blames the “Gang of 8,” which includes Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and Chuck Schumer, for working with Obama to “sneak a national ID” into an immigration reform bill.”A statist’s dream,” Paul decries.
According to Paul, the national ID would create a new federal database with biometric information on all citizens and those who work within the United States. He claims that, in short time, it would be illegal for anyone to have a job without an ID card.“Every time any citizen applies for a job, the government will know…[and] once the government bureaucrats know exactly how we run our lives, they will try and control them.”
He warns that “the government will know what you eat, drink, and read. Once they know this information, they will regulate everything” from your food to your education, depriving us of our freedom. Issues like amnesty are just being used as cover. The National ID is what the “statists” really want.
