I've read all sorts of nasty comments about the Farmer's Market; how the misfits think it was a waste of tax payer's money.

Good Lord, the place was packed this morning. All kinds of vegetables, food, and neat things for sale. The vendors are local people and they were making money.

Good job Lamar Paris! People love the place. Lots of parking, easier to get in and out of than the old courthouse, shaded, and many many more vendors.

I can't imagine why people would complain about a place that people love.

Please. NO DOCUMENTS. I don't care who put in the septic, the parking lot, how much it cost over budget, or more negative information.

Nobody said they hated it. It's a great place. I sure wish people could understand the morality and legalities behind actions.

There are laws and they need to be followed, period.

Not one single person I have ever met or talked to said it was a waste. I have only believed that money was wasted in some areas that could have been saved and we'd still have the same great farmers market.

And you can't just swing in here and post and them demand no one challenges you. This is not a fantasy world.

And you better care. The excess foolishly spent money is putting the county into debt. And if you live here, you should care. If you visit and want everything to stay lovely, then you should care. If you are American, then you should care!!!!

Dumbest remark put on topix in some time. The market is not utilized by the people it was suppose to be built for. It is mainly crafts and vegetables trucked in from the Atlanta Market and in direct compittion with our local merchants who just happen to collect the tax money that built the damn thing. You want to put the work on one's groups back so you can walk around in your short pants and sandals and buy a couple of tomatoes and talk about how you helped the local economy. Wake up and smell the coffee. The market was not built properly, not built in a good location and is not utilized as it should be.

Sorry, no tomatoes, yet.
But I will enjoy my squash, peaches, greens, and other items I purchased from local farmers who are thankful the market is crowded. I ordered veggies for canning, too. More dollars in the pocket of local farmers.

So we should be spending all our money at Ingles and Bi-Lo for vegetables?? I doubt they buy from local farmers and most of that money goes out of state. True, they do hire local people and pay taxes, but it's like saying you shouldn't shop for local crafts at one of the many festival we have because you might be able to buy something similar at Wal-Mart.

Dumb suits you just fine. You think the only stores we have are Ingles and Walmart? Let the rest close and this place will be a ghost town within a week. Look around fool. This town is made up of many merchants stores and businesses. If city and county govt. and people like you don't open your eyes and soon you will see this town gone. When you buy at a festival you are taking money out of the local economy because most of those folks aren't from Union County. When the great Green Bean festival comes to town count the locals involved in it. We have got to have some change in govt. or we are doomed and I hate to see that happen to my hometown.

Yeah, as usual Reb the Brain Surgeon is correct. All of those people who attend the Green Bean Festival won't be buying gas at area gas stations, they won't be eating at area restaurants. And they surely won't be staying in area hotels, motels and cabins. Yep, you are really, really smart. I bet you're a member of Mensa, aren't you?

It will be a one day trip dummy so no they will be staying at the motel. They will buy gas before they get here it is cheaper. more than likely they will eat a hot dog cooked by someone who isn't from here on a grill they pulled behind their pickup just to sit up at the festival. It is a shame noone was able to get through your thick skull and teach you the basic use of your brain.

Haven't they passed laws lately making it harder for folks to sell in roadside stands? They could have maybe saved a lot of money by just making it easier for a farmer to plop down a little farm shed on the side of the road.

You have a very good question there. If you go to the Gainsville Farmers market it is an open air shed built with metal supports and a metal roof over metal purlins. Not any where near as pretty as the one in Union County. It is utilized by the local farmers in Hall county to sell to the public. Works just great and it cost about 1/5 of what ours cost. ours is const. of wood and we all know what happens to wood. it Decays in time. Wooden post sit in concrete will deteroite twice as quick. Then what? Lamar wasn't trying to build a farmers market. If he was he would have looked at others built and see that most are raised for easy unloading and display. We have a flea market just like the one at the corner of 129 and 64. Ours cost a lot more money and might be a little more attractive but a flea market just the same.
