I remember the trial being here, and his lawyer petitioning to get a change of venue in the interest of Radford getting a fair trial. I think the evidence was very gory as to what he did to her. His lawyer also tried to bring in the fact that the mother was not at home which is ludricious. I don't agree she should have left her children, but that woman was not on trial. Just because some mother is negligent doesn't mean, that gives the local perv the right to rape and kill a child. I cannot remember why he didn't get the death penalty. With that sentence, he would come closer to getting more appeals, and I think the death row persons have tighter security. Our hope can be that he is in the general population having to fend for himself.

He took a plea deal at the last minute, even back in those days we had a lazy district attorney who offered him the deal even though the case had a near 100% chance of a death penalty conviction.

The 10 year old girl and her younger sister were left at a friends house by their mother. The mother and the friend then went out and left both visiting children there. Radford came by looking for the resident. He then did the crime and was convicted on the death penalty case. He was appealing the death penalty conviction when the prosecutors agreed to a plea arraingtment where he would plead guilty and serve life without parole. Thats what I remember.

7-year-old testifies Radford took her sister

Defense says Radford left after drug deal went bad
By Jon C. Moon
News Editor

The sister of a Union County girl found murdered and raped last July took the stand Tuesday and identified Ronald Radford as the man who attacked her sister.

Charlene Densberger, now seven, was the first of two key witnesses who gave testimony for the state.

The Prosecution contended that Radford went to a mobile home off Wilmar Circle in northern Union County the night Jeannie Densberger was murdered, looking for the owner of the home. Radford talked to the two Densberger girls and learned that Lynn Smith and the girls' mother, Sandra Densberger, had gone to a party. He gave them soft drinks and later left, but in the early morning hours returned, the Prosecution said, and raped Jeannie Densberger and kidnapped her.

But the Defense said that Radford was at a honky tonk just across the North Carolina line - the Riverside Club - when it closed at 1 a.m. and could not have driven to the Smith residence to commit the crimes.

Sheriff's Deputy Tom Maxton later would testify that the jail had received a call from Lynn Smith's neighbor at 1:10 and that he arrived at the scene at 1:37 a.m.

Public Defender Neil Smith, who was appointed to represent Radford, said in opening statements that his client had fled the area the following day because of a ''drug deal gone bad'' and said that Radford's car had accidentally burned in the Cohutta Wilderness.

Smith contended that Radford blacked out after leaving Riverside and did not remember anything until awakening early the next morning outside of Copperhill, Tenn., on a dirt road.

''He remembers getting a certain distance and not remembering anything else...,'' Smith said in his opening statements,''A blackout.''

Thanks for that information. I believe that Radford's parents owned and operated the store down at the state line for a while. I think there were two, maybe three, girls in the family. They seemed okay, especially the younger one whose name was Janet? Janice? Ronnie never, ever fit in; I don't know what happened to him that he was such a misfit from the day he arrived.

Ronnie would have probably beenn in his late 20's or early 30's--old enough to know better! He did some very cruel things to her; she is in Heaven now, but oh, what a rough road she had to take to get there.
Mom did NOT know him!!! You liar!!!!! She did Not go to any club or party either you idiots!!!

What a sad sad tragedy.

Having daughters myself, I always am astounded that the family members have the strength to go on after such a horrible loss.

God bless the child and her family.

Radfird's kind of makes me hope there is a Hell.

Any mother who leaves her children alone is raunchy. The kids would be alive today had the mother not been so careless. Yes, I will pass judgment on the mother. She should burn in hell along with the perp.

No, both mothers were at a party, they were NOT at work. The little girl killed was from Suches and was overnight babysitting the child in Blairsville.

The woman who lived in Blairsville did drugs with Ronnie and he came over that night looking for her, sat and visited with the girls for awhile, because the girl that lived there had met him several times before, so she let him in.

His story was he went to Riverside, stopped at the bridge, snorted Coke and then has no idea what happened.

When he went back to the child's home, they refused to let him in initially. he used the knife he carried to try and pry open the back door, but no luck. He finally convinced them to let him in.

He did not take the child who lived there with her mother, he took the older visiting child first. Placed her in the vehicle and came back to get the other child. That little girl had sense enough to go outside and hide. She say's behind a tree but were pretty sure it was the heat pump or something else, She described seeing the buckle on his boot and hearing the other girl in the car screaming let me go. However, he never had those bots on, it was someone else, that was with him.

The details of her torture and death are gruesome and insane, so I won't give them to you. However, when he threw her into the river, thinking that when they generated it would wash her downstream, she was still alive, he only thought she was dead.

He was finally located near his older sisters house and in the car, when they stopped at a light, the FBI surrounded the car and took him. Yes, his sister worked with them to assist in his arrest.

After a long discussion, we ASSUME their were 2 males involved and Ronnie protected the other for whatever reason. From the girls screams and wondering how she was held in a running vehicle but not tied and knocked out.

So is that enough for you?
