It's a great time and a great idea.

Look forward to it every year.

Me too Informed Opinion! We went to the Apple Festival in Ellijay on Saturday and the Sorghum Festival Sunday and there was no comparison in my mind. Meeks Park is such a fabulous setting for the event.

Sorghum Festival?? I think it should now be called the Moonshiners Festival. Too much promoting of moonshine and not enough about sorghum. I wonder who's decision it was to get all the moonshiners?

I missed the "moonshiners" in the past, but I hope they have their product available this year.

A little moonshine while enjoying a cigar around the fire pit would be a fine thing.

YOu can't buy it at the festival, they are only promoting it, that's my understanding. It's fine, I don't have a problem with it, just wish they would separate the two. Then we could have another festival to add to the others :)

The reason moonshine is being promoted to show locals that the distillery is coming to Blairsville

I'm the "candle guy" there and this past weekend was FANTASTIC... great crowds and perfect weather. Vendors that I spoke with (birdhouse lady, nuts people, kettle corn and others) were really thankful and grateful, as am I. Both locals and out of towners were very generous and supportive... and fun to chat with!

The music is pretty good this year. Kudos to the organizers for that. One band started at the END (5pm) on Saturday and really rocked the (mostly empty) place. Locals I think... hope to see them again.

Hope to see any of you Topix people this upcoming weekend... and that weather is good. Ask for the "Topix Special"... and I'll charge you double! >;-)

Yes, this year the festival seems to have blossomed. I guess whatever brings in the crowds is a good thing. So kudos to the organizers. I will see ya'll this weekend. Looking forward to another great time.

I love your candles. Thank you for a fantastic product. Lemongrass is my favorite right now. I bought several gifts at the festival, its always a yearly ritual of mine.

women keep the economy going. They spend more money on useless products than man can create. man just cannot keep up with creating enough useless products for women to buy.

Good afternoon sourpuss, I like the vegetable based candles Mike and others make. Since you are a sourpuss you probably are allergic to women as well as their romantic ways and products. If you want a fight or a debate on it; bring it on. I take pride in every feminine and romantic whim I have. It keeps my love smiling.

Yeah, but women have half the money and all the -----, so it's their prerogative.

I enjoyed the festival but leaving it was a nightmare..took over a half hour or more sitting in line and almost 15 mins. of it the line wasn't even moving.. Seems they need to make another exit on the end by the parking lot near the playground area if that is possible to help with the traffic.. Only the one way out seems eerie...especially in an emergency with both sides of the road filled with cars. Just my opinion...

I can't argue that candles are a "have to have", but to many they are a "nice/fun to have" and they make people happy. Most hand made crafts at shows are not necessities, but they are generally high quality and/or unique. People attend these festivals to make themselves happy... eating lots of treats, being entertained and rewarding themselves with "fun" purchases from the actual manufacturers of items. Are these items worthless if they make a person happy? Methinks not...

PS. At least 25% of buyers are MEN! Put THAT in yer pipe and smoke it. >;-)

Those 25% of men who buy candles know what I know... that women have half the money and all the ----- and man's only chance at ----- is dinner, a box of chocolates and, yep, candles...

I think it's a fund raiser for the DARE program. It's run by the GDC drug testing people.

Moonshine is NOT being promoted. Mr. Reynolds has been coming to the festival for years. The "moonshiners" from the discovery channel were added this year to hopefully draw more people to the festival as it has to compete with the apple and gold rush festivals this weekend. Just for your info the festival also has wood carving demo, pottery demo, candle making demo, apple-butter making demo, black-smith demo, muzzle-loading demo, and several others as well as the moonshine stills. Please do not trash a 44 year tradition to promote your political views. The Sorghum Festival is organized by a very small group of people and is totally non-profit. All monies go directly back into the community.
The County is not involved in the organizing or planning of the festival.

then why not show some moonshiners being arrested, jailed, and their families lives ruined? Moonshine was a 'cash crop' with legal risks. This is part of the heritage of moonshine in the area. It gave needed money to still operators, jobs to law enforcement, and cash bribes that gave rise to our current judicial system. Not to mention NASCAR.

Now we hawk it to our kids.

This area is the meth capitol of the world. Will we be having a meth lab display at meeks park someday too.
