The 777Sweepstakes parlor is in the buiding beside the New Happy Garden Buffet Resturant on hwy 64 .... they will be having a soft opening tomorrow night.

" In the sweepstakes parlors, which cropped up around the state after poker machines disappeared, customers buy a prepaid phone card or Internet time on a terminal. The purchase includes the chance to win cash. But instead of peeling or scratching off a game ticket, players sit in front of a computer screen that shows a hand of poker or the image of a slot machine.

Sweepstakes operators say their business isn't gambling because patrons are paying for computer time or a phone card.

"This is your modern-day bingo," said Chase Brooks, who owns a Raleigh sweepstakes room.

A North Carolina appeals court ruling in December upheld a ban on video poker machines, but that ban doesn't apply to Internet sweepstakes parlors because customers are paying for Internet time or a phone card.

Customers give money to a parlor employee, who programs the machine for the customer to play. Customers receive payouts for winning poker hands played online. The computer prints a ticket when someone wins, and the customer takes it to the counter to be redeemed or puts it back into the machine.

The three local owners said they have had numerous payouts since their businesses opened, ranging from $200 to more than $2,000.

Good maybe the scratch off junkies will go there instead of clogging up the counters at gas stations or hanging out in the parking lot to scratch. Disgusted by that!

Do they only have online games? No real gaming machines?

The machines have most of the games you would find at Harrahs in Cherokee. You cannot physically put money in the machine. You purchase a phone cards $5 minimum They transfer whatever amount you purchased to the machine of your choice. Personally we were treated very poorly. We went in to play a few dollars worth of games and were asked to leave with no cause.

There are bills in the legislature to outlaw these games , so if you enjoy losing your money at these places hurry the time is short.

I have gone there a couple times and found the employees very helpful and nice. I stopped there on my way back from work one afternoon and only played $10 and nothing was said to me. I have gone there at night and played more but I have never seen them ask anyone to leave. It isn't very big but good enough if you don't want to make the trip to Cherokee and you don't have to walk around waiting on machines.

You people do realize that "the indians" are only allowed to build casinos on DESIGNATED RESERVATION lands, right? They cant just buy land and build one. They are allowed to do this, because technically reservations are considered foreign lands. They are not controlled by "our" government, and therefore cannot be taxed etc.

The Cherokee's already own the land that the Gaming Facility will be built on, however they are buying additional land for the golf course and other facilities .... it's not in Andrews, it will be between Murphy and Marble.
