Fud,A neighbor and bible thumper told me I could make millions of dollars if I were a preacher.Like you I am to honest to cheat ignorant people of their money.Union County and North Georgia is one of the best places for a lieing preacher to land, because about 99 percent of people living there believe in fairy tales. The truth is I feel sorry for them.

I don't believe in fair tales, either.

I'm talking about seeker small groups. Filter out selfish-goat church members and replace them with sheep who take care of the hungry, thirsty, naked, strangers, sick and prisoners.

Funny, Scrooge. Then, you get it. When people look for a church, they usually look for a building. Church doesn't have to be a money machine. You don't need a leader, except the one who started the church, Christ Jesus...

Consider this definition of church:

A loose-knit network of Jesus followers who gather together to encourage each other in their spiritual life and who go out, moved by the Holy Spirit, sharing and demonstrating the Gospel.

Loose-knit. Not formal membership, just a love-commitment to God and each other.

Jesus followers. The basic requirement for membership in the church.

Who gather together. Gathering to build one another up and to worship.

Who go out. The purpose of believers… to GO with the message.

Moved by the Holy Spirit. The one and only LEADER of the church.

Sharing and demonstrating the gospel. The reason that the church GOES.

BD, your neighbor and bilbe thumper doesn't sound very Christ like. Did you tell him he is not a Christian. He needs to know.

I know I am going to ruffle your tail feathers but why are you participating in a forum about finding a church to attend? The forum started off well and some great suggestions were offered then you step in. You are a self-proclaimed atheist according to your posts and I assume you don't attend any church; then why act like you could preach for goodness sakes and who would listen! Yes its better to give than receive. I believe in giving anonymously anyway. No everyone is not obsessed with money, delusional or what the building looks like. BD, there are holes in your story.

I guess there are thumpers obsessed with money. I wouldn't know. I don't go to church.

There is another side to Christianity that is sometimes less visible: a growing swell of simple folk who just want to live like salt and light in a broken world. The same way Jesus did.

Laurel, sounds like BD pushed your button. But my question is how do you attend "any church?"

Let’s look at the basic New Testament definition of church. The Greek word for “church” is “ekklesia” which simply refers to those who were "called out" for an assembly or meeting. It was a non-religious word. It just referred to a group of people. If we think of church as a group of people who are followers of Jesus, then when Blairsville Devil reads your post, he sees the 24/7/365/CHURCH.

L Wood,I don't have any tail feathers to ruffle. If I had some you could ruffle them as you wish. You have said a few good things about me,so at this point you are on the positive side. There is a chump called duck rogers on the forum since he is a duck he has feathers and maybe a few scales, such as those found on a snake. This topic is a copy of last year. With all the churches in Union County,it seems to me that there would be no difficulty finding the proper fit. There seems to be hundreds of people ,mostly men that have been called on to spread the myth of Jesus there. With the overflow of them in Blairsville,I understand that they have resorted to trying to save each other.I have mention bible thumpers many times ,but that is just for effect.Actually nearly all thumpers are hell and brimstone preachers and every one in the congregation has a straight shot to hell, except him.Yes my story has a few holes and add ons.The devil made me do it.

Maybe a church where Native Americans go. Don't laugh, I am serious.
New hope Fellowship as mentioned earlier is a great church! I'm proud to call it my home and we welcome any and all visitors!

No one can push my buttons on God. I don't care what BD thinks of me. No I am not 24/7/365 church but I am 24/7/365 God minded. I serve God not this world and its secular modes of the moment. Your question is not deep material it is odd. I feel church is an assembly of like minded people usually but not always. For the poster to want an opinion on a public forum could be positive in every way. Sometimes when you are searching assembly or just searching; a suggestion is what you truly want. To start that kind of forum is not bad. Who can say out of the suggestions some non-jokesters offered a solution for that person will be a place they select and want to attend on their schedule.

Every preacher is not that way and the snakes are few. If you are going for EFFECT the effecters will applaud you, I won't. You are growing closer every day. I have watched how your holes and add-ons are growing thinner every post you make.

Church is not an organization, building, or meeting of any kind. It’s simply a group of people who follow Christ.

Robert Fitts provides some additional information at DAWN ministries:

Jesus used a common word when he said, "I will build my church." It was not a religious word. It simply meant a called out group, or crowd, or fellowship, or assembly. So we can use the word church when it communicates what we are saying, but we can also use the word fellowship, or gathering, or brethren, or saints, or disciples. It simply means a group of people.

My point is that those who claim to be Christian are the Church. If the world sees us as the cause of evil, the love of Christ as a fairy tale, the ministers as money hungry, and congregations as dillusional followers who are there only to support the well oiled machine, then there is definately something wrong with the church. We must listen to those who critize us and change the paradigm. The paradigm shift begins with each individual who call themselves god minded. They (the worldview of non-believers) must see love for each other and humanity. Our God is a BIG GOD and doesn't need defending.

Who are the underground Christians?

These are people who are finding new ways to use their God-given gifts and passions to help others and in the process see Jesus glorified. They are starting simple ministries, or opening their doors to neighbors, or visiting jails, or preparing for careers where their gifts can be fully invested for the Kingdom within their society, or pioneering non-profits.

These are people who are scheming ways to reach out and touch the deepest needs of their communities without seeking credit for their efforts.

These are people who build authentic relationships that draw others out and that make room for deep connections leading to changed lives.

These are people who are working among some of the less-acceptable people in our society: the mentally ill, the sexually addicted, the repeat offenders.

According to xcripture the goats (insert your own definition) will be eternally punished.

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, e‘Depart from me, you fcursed, into gthe eternal fire prepared for hthe devil and his angels. 42 For iI was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying,‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying,‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, jyou did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away kinto eternal punishment, but the righteous kinto leternal life.”

There are two churches. The visible church (an organization on earth) and the invisible church (Christians). The visible church is to have elders, etc.(See Titus 1:5-6). The Book of Revelation was written to specific, visible churches. Paul also discussed the procedure to remove someone from the visible church. There's no procedure for removing someone from the invisible church.

I picked this post to attach my post. In your Post #34 you are right and I think I said basically the same thing you did in paragraph 1. As for underground Christians I believe most are above ground and living with Jesus in their heart. To date I do not feel I need to hide who I am and what I feel. There are many hurting people and the last poster is right one should find a church in a short period and stick with it. In those early days I do not know why anyone would let Topix be a decisive part of their choice; but maybe they read and follow many of you posters and actually would like your opinion. Some posters are very interesting however I am not; I blog on many sites other than Topix in a few towns approx 15 to 20 min a day total.
