I would very much like to know the secret to being able to call 911 when ALL services are down.
You can do what Windstream has had me doing all week as the internet went out.
First, reset the modem by pushing the off switch. Repeat one hundred times.
Second, reset the modem another hundred times by unplugging it.
Third, do you think it could be your line filter. Remove it.
Fourth, reinstall it.
Fifth, repeat steps 3 and 4 one hundred times.
Sixth, could be your modem is out of date. Can we sell you a new one?
Seventh, could be your WiFi box, need to call the mfg.
Eighth, a street box has had some problems recently, do you think that could be it. I don't know I'm not a tech.
Nineth,'a tech came by and did something at the street'.
Tenth, May have to buy that new box.
Eleventh, can you look at the telephone pole and see anything wrong looking.

If still doesn't work, get in your car and drive to the Sheriff's office to report your 911.

it is all the party lines with the workers getting on the line with folks and listening to their calls, the perks of living in a small town

Well, it's been weeks now since this happened and I'm still looking for that promised report by the commissioner.
Yes, it was trivial, but at the same time it could of caused problems. It shows what to expect if a strong solar storm hits us. A storm like hit earth in 1859 will knock out more than that, most post 1979 cars and trucks will be dead too. Also electric power could be out. These things will be "out" for months if that happens.

People need to realize when they bow to the alters of Facebook to rant over small things, It's more a reflection on them than the problem itself.

Thank you for restating the point I was trying to make 3 or 4 posts above. COMPUTERS FAIL. TECHNOLOGY FAILS. No one is solely to blame and no one needs to flood the FB pages of media outlets demanding coverage of it. It's over, everyone is fine, so why are you still bitching about it? Apparently you didn't pick up the sarcasm having to do with the 'smart phone'. I "guaranDAMNtee" you, if you had one of them there trusty tin foil hats you keep referencing you might would lighten up a little.
As far as the commissioner goes, he made a generalized statement because he was pressured into it by the same group of people who were flooding media sites trying to get coverage of something that went on for 1/24th of the whole day and was fixed before anyone had a heart attack or died because their "smart" phones didn't work. Even though I am still fairly young, I have recently come to understand that in this short life we have, there are very few things worth causing such a stink about. People need to realize when they bow to the alters of Facebook to rant over small things, It's more a reflection on them than the problem itself.
Mine was out too but it was weird because I still had internet... I get that you are pushing for people not to be do tech based. But the real issue is that phones were down! I couldn't have made a call if I really needed help! But I still had internet? What the heck! I also did not have a phone until 17, the reason people are demanding coverage is for the simple fact that they WERE not able 2 make calls even in an emergency! What was I supposed to do if I had a true emergency try emailing 911?! Also it is concerning that this happened so close to the government hack that was just on the news a few days ago.... If someone can hack the US government what's to say they didn't jack the phone systems as well? The fact that it happened At all is concerning. True they are computers and computers do fail, however the telephone has been around way before computers and have not failed so epically before now right after a major government hack... And not everyone uses social media as I rarely do if ever. That is a preconceived notion that the only reason people were upset was because they couldn't see their Facebook. Well even with the phones down I could as I still had Internet but could not make calls or texts..
