<quoted text>Let me give you a hypothetical: Joe Doe is a Florida retiree who is looking to move to the Mountains. He Looks at Fannin and Union. He sees that he can save a thousand or more dollars a year on school taxes in Fannin and the schools are equal. Where is he going to go and build his house. Fannin, The building of his house will help local suppliers, lumber suppliers, Home Depot, local builders and contractors, etc. but not Union. Multiply this bu 200 and add up the support for the local economy. If the seniors leave and take their spending with them, Union will choke. Union will hurt. Seniors support a great part of Union's economy. Union is running retirees away and Fannin is reeling them in. I don't think Lamar will support running Seniors out of Union.
Waaaaahhhhh !

Waaaaahhhhh !

I'm a leeeeeeeberal socialist commie freeloading deadbeat loser.

I just want to keep slurping up everyone else tax money, because I didn't earn or save enough money and can't support myself, and now I want to be subsidized even more by making others pay my real estate taxes.

Hey...let's raise taxes on those Urban Atlanta folks because they are productive people and I'm a useless parasite.

Fannin County has a Senior School Tax Exemption at 65. They have quality schools like Union. Are you Looney Liberals saying Union needs more school tax revenue than Fannin to have Quality Schools? Something does not add up here.

Fannin is also attracting retirees with their favorable tax rate for Seniors. Seniors spend their income and help the economy. Seniors need a lot of health services and this helps the economy. Most states are trying to attract seniors, not run them away like Union.
Wasaaaahhhh !

I'm special.

I can't support myself and pay property taxes like real people.

I'm a socialist and I hate capitalism.

Let's make everyone else pay for the house I can't afford because I want to live above my income.

Send me Social Security, send me Medicare, and now subsidize my taxes.

Typical North Georgia hypocrite - whining for others to pay for them because they're special.

Seniors are in a part of their life where every civil society in the free world recognizes they need some kind of tax breaks and assistance. Too bad we have some really ignorant selfish people in Union County that disagree. Make them pay even though they have extra bills due to poor health.
Sad.
Grandchild: "Grandpa, why don't you want to support my school ?"

Old Fart: "Because I got my public education, my kids got their public education, and I don't need it anymore, so now screw you."

Grandchild: "Grandpa, why don't you pay higher taxes to pay the debt your generation created ?"

Old Fart: "Because I don't want to lower my lifestyle and don't care if I screw you - too bad you gotta pay my debts."

Grandchild: "Grandpa, are you embarrassed and ashamed to collect Social Security, Medicare, and benefit from 68 other government programs for old people, to have benefited directly and indirectly from public education, and now want to screw me over even worse by not supporting our schools ?"

Old Fart: Hell no. I'm a North Georgia RWW, we slurp up all the government funds we can and screw everyone else - even our children and grandchildren."

Damn boy ... Why do you think they call us the Greediest Generation ?

The seniors I know must be a lot different than you. Most have worked all their lives and are enjoying retirement and in the best financial shape of their lives. A good many are actually helping their kids and grandkids through these tough financial times.

You should really look in the mirror if you want to see an ignorant, selfish person. Remember, someone paid for your education when you were young, so it's your social responsibility to help pay the schooling of our younger generation. That's only fair.

Already paid. 50 years worth. That is enough.
It is your civil and social responsibility to support the old and sick.
If you want to pay extra school tax there is nothing stopping you from putting it in your tax payment. I think you should, you are soooooo responsible. You should pay extra when you are 75 too.

Maybe you are one of those rich school administrators and live in a fancy area. That's how you know some rich retirees. Maybe the people you know spoiled their kids and they can't cope in the job market because they think they should have everything they want handed to them.

Are there any Real Men left in North Georgia ?

Or have that all become whining little girls, selfishly demanding that:

In addition to getting their annual increase in their guv'ment Social Security, their guv'ment Medicare, their guv'ment Medicare Part D drugs, their guv'ment Housing Vouchers, their Medicaid, their guv'ment SNAP benefits, their guv'ment SSI benefits, and their 102 other guv'ment benefits for the elderly,

Now we have to subsidize their real estate taxes too ?

What's so entertaining is after whining, puling, and moaning about how they need all that guv'ment money, and how they demand to be subsidized instead of children and the working poor,

They have the chutzpah, or the idiocy, to be sanctimoniously preaching to others about the "evils" of that "socialist" Obama.

North Georgia... apparently only whiny self-centered, greedy old farts retire here, ready willing and anxious to screw our children and grandchildren.

Great post.

Ain't it amazing how what certain people see as "fair" always results in checks and subsidies headed into their wallets.

My Grandfather taught me that paying taxes, and serving in the Armed Forces was "Real" Americans' obligations in return for living in the greatest country on the Earth.

If he was alive today, he say we "old farts" need to "bitch slap" these "whiny little girls" until they "grew a pair", shut up, and "paid their share."

But then again, he was a Real Man.

I better go check on his grave. He's probably so mad he spinning like crazy.

Nope, just a normal everyday guy. In fact, I'm one of those whose elderly parents has to graciously help on occasion during these hard economic times. Nothing rich about me or my parents. But we all have worked and put away for the future. Most of my parents' friends are the same, not rich but financially secure. In fact, a vast majority of the older retirees in this area seem to be fairly financially secure - except a few who want to gripe about their social responsibility all day.... who would that be?

The social responsibility for school taxes should stop at 65. Every senior I know agrees. Everyone needs an education and everyone gets old. The old need special treatment from family and government.

We should let the elderly too stupid, lazy or unlucky to save enough for their retirement years to live in cardboard boxes, eat cat food, and use dirty needles for their insulin shots.

Everyone I know who's under the age of 65 agrees with me they're tired of subsidizing all these old farts with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and SSI, instead of being allowed to use their hard-earned funds to invest in their own, and their children's futures.

If you haven't succeeded financially by age 65 - you're a loser, and us capitalists don't have to carry your leeeeeeeberal, socialist, loser butts.
