Old people are selfish. I see it every day and hear it every day amongst my older friends. Until they die, they have an obligation to contribute to schools. If seniors were exempt, they'd be on this forum bitching about their grandkid's school not having enough and being underfunded.
Wonder if your so called "friends" know that you actually think that they are selfish? Some friend you are..shows what type friend you are for sure. Guess your one of the two faced kind..

Totally disagree. Many counties in Georgia and the USA exempt Seniors from paying School tax. Maybe you are wealthy, then Warren Buffett says YOU should write a big check and help the Seniors living on 20K a year. The selfish one sir is in the mirror. Most wealthy Seniors I know are exceedingly selfish. If you are not wealthy, then your grandkids are most likly spoiled rotten like most of these kids in Union.

Yes, now that we have to pay SPLOST right out of our savings. Union needs to encourage Seniors to retire here. Seniors bring their own money with them and spend it. An exemption for school taxes would be a good draw.

Ah...

We watch the "Greatest Generation" replaced by the "Greediest Generation".

Yep... Now that your kids have enjoyed public educations, screw everyone else.

You ain't special just because I already pay to subsidize your Social Security and Medicare, and now you are too "special" to pay your share because you are "old".

When did we decide that merely continuing to suck air, and perhaps occasionally obtain verticality, constituted grounds for special treatment.

Hey.... Most Gay couples don't have kids in school - let's encourage Gays and Lesbians to retire in Union County.

Heck, they're fewer of them than old people, so they must be even more "special."

It's embarrassing to watch how so many Americans are constantly whining for "special" treatment.

FAIR TREATMENT not special treatment Why should seniors pay an unfair tax.considering that they do not have childern attending school. People with six a figure income such as yourself, should be willing to pay all school taxes.

Because people who had no kids paid school tax to put you through school long ago. What's fair is fair.

Just for the record All property owners in Florida pay school tax. Paying for school tax is just paying back for the education you received.
The sad part is that so much money is wasted, my kids go to school in Union County and are forced when they walk in the door to pick up breakfast supplied by tax money and throw it into the trash because they eat at home. They do not have a choice, they get of the bus and are forced to get the food and toss it! The mentality of spend it or we won't get the money next year is sickening when so many people can't afford food. My kids have always gone to private school in the past and I paid the tuition plus tax that's just the way it goes. After seeing the public system at work they will probably be going back to private school very soon. The education system here is just as bad as I remember it being 30 years ago.

Could it be that 'Government Run' is wasting our money?
Lots of Counties in Georgia recognize that having Seniors retire in their County is good for their local economy. Many do exempt Seniors of their school tax burden.
Thanks for letting us know about the waste in Union County Schools.
When they try to raise taxes we will remember this.

Please... You can't be serious.

Let's use your logic - or lack of:

Why should childless people pay a school tax - just like old people - they don't send kids to school here ?

Why should people who primarily reside elsewhere pay a school tax - just like old people - they don't send their kids to school here ?

Why should people who send their kids to private school pay school tax - just like old people - they don't send their kids to school here ?

What should people who own non-residential property pay school taxes - just like old people they don't send their kids to school here.

What should someone who sends one kid to school here pay the same taxes as someone who sends 14 kids to school here ?

What about people who sent their older kids to school in another county, and their younger kid to school here - shouldn't they get a tax break ?

What about people whose kids require special schooling - shouldn't they pay more school taxes than people who whose kids cause no problems ?

What about people whose kids play sports - shouldn't they pay higher school taxes for that fancy football field and the costs of their activities ?

Americans have always understood that a strong public education system benefited all Americans, not just those who happen to have kids in school at the time.

You get the benefit of an educated workforce in every aspect of your life, from the day you are conceived until the day your ashes are spread, buried, or discarded.

We got ours - now "F" you.

You are a goofball.

I am a registered Republican and have been since I first registered.

I don't hate selfish, greedy people who have enjoyed all that our society offers, now refuse to to pay their share.

I pity them.

People who look their children and grandchildren's in the eyes and say: I got mine- now "F" you", must be soul-less pitiful wretches.

I own several real properties in Union County, have never, and will never send a child to these schools.

If I ever join the Greediest Generation, and start bitching about paying taxes to support public education, my soul has left this world - so just shoot me.

Your logic is flawed.
I went back and read a lot of your posts and you are a hater.
I noticed you never defend the poor who can not pay.
You never talk about the debt this USA in in which is killing our way of life. Your logic is disjointed and schizophrenic. You need a life besides Topic. I pity you.

Aren't you the slightest but embarrassed that you cannot respond at all to the numerous points demonstrating the whole idea is nonsensical.

What makes reaching an arbitrary age, and still sucking air make you so special you don't have to pay taxes.

If you don't pay school taxes because you presumably don't have kids in school :

What about those who had kids in school, but don't now ?They got theirs so "F" everyone else ?

What about those who never had kids in school ? They got theirs so "F" everyone else ?

What about those who have kids in school elsewhere ?
They got theirs so "F" everyone else ?

What about those who can't have kids ?
Too bad, they're not old so ""F" them ?

What about those who have nonresidential property ?
Too bad, they're not old so "F" them ?

What about those who have 1 kid in school vs. those who have 14 kids ?
They got a great deal so "F" everyone else ?

What about those who benefit benefit in a million ways from an educated and informed citizenry ?
They got a great deal so "F" everyone else ?

Oh wait ... Instead of even trying to respond to the obvious irrational, unsupportable, self-centered positions, this is where you accuse me of "hating" something or someone.

Good luck.

"Senior Hater ?"

Really.

You actually posted that ?

What is it with the some people that the constantly demand to be treated "Special" ?

That's the Ronnie Ray-Gun mantra - "Ask not what I can do for my country, ask what my country can do for me."

The Greediest Generation has stated 3 wars costing $6 Trillion Dollars they can't pay for; spent $2 Trillion Dollars on tax cuts for the rich they can't pay for; spent $2 Trillion Dollars for Medicare Part D they can't pay for; and wasted $12.5 Trillion Dollars on a Great Recession they can't pay for, continue to waste $1 Trillion a year on a War Department they can't pay for; and continue to waste $500 Billion a year on a "war on drugs" they can't pay for.

Yep.. Let's keep the Greediest Generation happy while we screw the hell out of our children's future.
