Has anyone noticed the problem with Builder's First Source in our area? My husband is a builder. The good workers are being laid off but it seems that there is a "Family Connection" from what one of the employees of my husband said. All the sweet ladies upstairs that I once knew are no longer there. The driver that my husband always could depend on was laid off last week. He had been there alot longer that some of those others. And the driver was one of the few he said was never out for sickness.I believe someone needs to report this "Family Affair" to the Cooporate office for this. It's against the rules for "Close Family" to work there. Father/Son/Etc..Somebody needs to wake up!

I agree! There defintley seems to be a problem. All the good working people are now gone to highlands where i now do my business!!! The two ladies I used to deal with were always so very helpful and always welcomed their customers with a smiling face. Evidently someone higher up needs to WAKE UP as there DEFINTLEY are problems!! I feel sorry for all the poor souls who have lost their jobs and the others who are still having to tolerate this!

I spoke with a woman the other day whose husband was laid off from there. He is one of the honest men I know of. Hardest workin of them all and do you see who they let stay there? Do you see who they let be a supervisor on the yard there? His poor wife has to work 2 and 3 jobs just to stay away from him! The policy at Builder's First source is suppose to be "no immediate family" employed...(example; husband/wife; daughter/mother; or father/son) All of these rules have been broken there. I wonder if the cooperate office is aware of this?

I am Ing's husband. The builder. She only posted the first post.So don't even go there HMMMMMMMM. You have no idea how much discrimination that has went on at that company. And cry babies up there. I'm switching companies. Highlands are cutting back too but it's in a fair way.

Hiawassee Hardware is down to 2 drivers. I am sure that the ones laid off are hurt and disappointed. It has been a domino effect with the Construction world but not limited to the construction world.

The rule of thumb should be seniority. If the company has kept the employee for x amount of time longer than the other employees, they are worth the keeping and pay.
However, it does not always work that way. It is not a rule for businesses to hold to seniority levels as it has been called out that many businesses are letting go the workers who are being paid top dollar first because they simply can not afford their services. Those are mostly in the other businesses outside of the Construction world from what I read on the internet and in the papers.

Builders has cut pay for a lot of employees. Some can handle it because they know that times will pick back up and they value their jobs. Others can not handle the pay cuts. They have adjusted their lifestyles off of what they have been making and have no room for pay cuts.

I talked with a man who should not have been let go from there in my personal opinion because I know that he had worked there for at least 13 years. He thankfully has a new job. It is not what he is used to doing.. but he is out there doing it. Working just as hard as he did for BFS.
My heart ached for him though because it is hard sometimes to adjust to change. Specially when you have done something for so long! He just said, it is everyone in the country.. and I could see the hurt in his eye's. Heartbreaking and humble as he ever has been.

I think that God is really humbling us all. I have faith that he will be with us all throughout.

God bless the whole country. Prayers for those who are having hard times and having a hard time being comforted.

I heard while getting gas that they will be closing their doors anyway? Business is so far down this year, maybe that is true?

Builder's First Source was the one above all for a long time until they split into what is a competition of between the hardwares. Tracy (ex-manager) of both hardwares now put BFS on top for a good many years. The new manager at BFS needs to open his eyes to the situation. It's for the most part a family connection. Cousins, sons, who married who, and the supervisor being "THE DADDY" has discrimated employees out of their retirement, health insurance, and many other life long situations just to keep his own in a job and to heck with the rest. Oh, and he is a deacon of a church? Please! The girls in the office can tell anyone the truth of what goes on there. Each one knows and I'm sure if they would tell the NEW manager at BFS there would be some changes of ALL of the family members there. It's not right for a man/woman who has worked there for 12 or 18 years to lose their job just to keep the peons who have only been there 3 or 4 years and some less than that just because 'of family'. I'm sure a lawsuit might possibly follow alot of these leaves of termination. I know I would go higher up over the head of what calls themselves management and get the low life out of there. I've heard they are shutting their doors also. Then what will they do? All go find a job at the same place again?

too much competition started up in the last few years and now many local businesses are suffering as things are returning to normal. Remember, 2006-2007 were not normal.

so you think that when people "settle in" to a job that they can keep it based on seniority? wouldn't you keep a producer, even if he's newer? Are you basing these things on Truth or on your office gossip? And is it right to try to talk about their personal lives? How's your marriage?

to all just remember that no one here may know your name but God does. Everyone that is involved in this situation should just rely on God no matter what role you may have in all of this. Yes it's bad that people have lost their jobs but are you any better than the people you're talking about considering the things you're saying. If you have your feelings hurt over someone losing their job imagine how the wife who works 3 jobs would feel or feels if she has read this. And if she works that many jobs then apparently there are more jobs out there for the people who say there aren't. Sometimes God gives us tests to see how faithful we are to him. Just because you're upset you or your loved one has lost their job doesn't give you the right to talk about the others that are still there. Just think about how the families or family being talked about will feel when they here this. I hope they have enough faith in God to just ignore all of this nonsense.

Amen "think about it". I agree 100%. I did read that the most recent laid off already had another job, so that should be the end of it all, and they should be thankful that God provided another job. To every thing there is a season.

ING you seriouly need to get a life and stop trying to start drama in the community. I worked there for 2 years and the people who are left there are the hardest workers builders first source has had in a long time and from my point of view they deserve to still have their jobs, and by the way the person who does the lay off's is the main guy from gainsville and he doesn't care who you are kin to, he goes strictly to the stats and work progress charts. You or your husband niether one work there so why should you be worried about something that doesn't even have anything to do with you. Maybe you and all other gossipers should think about this verse.

"Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour:i am the LORD." LEV 19:16

Occasionally when a business is struggling financially they need to save money where they can.

I am not familiar with any of the people at the BFS but I do know that sometimes companies let the employees who are making a higher income go and keep the lower paid ones and just give them more work.

Bless everyone in this time of need.
