Just wondering if anyone had heard the status of the young man (18 yrs old) that had been hit by the boat on Lake Notley on the the 4th. I was at a neighbor's home, they have a scanner, and I heard the 911 center dispatch EMS, which then called for a helicopter. They flew the young man out, don't know where, and called it a "code 3" which is very critical from what I understand. I have worried about this young man ever since. I hope and pray that he made it. I have checked topix daily since, to see if anthing had been posted. If anyone has an update, it would be much appreciated. To any family members out there....my thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless you.

we will never know what happened to the person that got run over by the boat. i wouldn't worry too much about them, from what i understand he got hit by the boat that he was supposed to be on and unfortunately this is just a case of people not paying attention to what they were doing.

From what I understand the young man is going to be ok. They were keeping him sedated while the swelling reduced on his brain and he had some broken ribs. I read about him on our prayer chain at church and that was the last I heard. Thank you for your concern and prayers. If I hear an update I will try to post.

I just spoke with a family member who is a friend of the family. As of Tuesday July 7 3:33 pm he is in stable condition and being weaned off of the drugs that induced the coma.

The information I have conveyed from those who witnessed the accident is that he was being pulled on an innertube and was struck by another boat.

There is one report (not definitely official) that there may have been an arrest of the driver of the boat who struck him. Alcohol may have been a factor.

Thank you for the update. I am glad the young man is going to be okay. Life is so very precious and we just never think anything bad is going to happen to us....apparently it was a good time being had....with a terrible ending. I do hope that alcohol was not involved....If there is anything else heard, about his condition that is, please post.....and please let his family know that many people, even those who have no name or face to put with, are praying for and thinking about them. Thanks again.

I'm not sure that I would say that "he is going to be okay". As of reports on 1:00 pm July 8 he has not woken up yet but that does not have to mean that he won't. People respond differently to weaning off of the induced-coma medicines. Reports are that his "numbers" are what the doctors want at this time but that does not mean that he cannot get worse or that we can say that he is progressing toward being "okay." We certainly pray that he will.

Local teen injured in boating accident, in critical condition
Staff Reports

Wednesday, Jul 08, 2009 A local teen was listed Tuesday in critical condition at Chattanooga's Erlanger Hospital. Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials said 18-year-old Austin Jones, of Rydal, was involved in a Saturday boating accident on Lake Nottely in Union County.

"[Jones] was being pulled on an inner tube behind a boat, and another boat struck him [around 3 p.m.]," Ranger First Class Kevin Dyer said. "He was treated by EMS at the scene and life-flighted to Erlanger. I think he sustained a head injury."

Dyer, who said there was no alcohol involved in the incident, added that the driver of the at-fault boat had been cited for a rules-of-the-road violation for boat traffic.

I suppose I saw that word "stable" and in my head = okay. Please let the family know that there are many people thinking of them, and praying for the young man. Hopefully there will be a praise report very soon.

As of information gotten yesterday (Thursday) he is being kept under a medically induced coma due to water in his lungs. There is always the threat of pneumonia, so the coma is helpful for attempting to control that. Reports are that his family is in relatively good spirits but of course continue to be concerned until the time when they can see how he might awaken. This is still a thing of concern.

Know the rules of boating and lake use people. Free and factual info on the ga dnr website. Dont follow so damn close. dont drive aggressive. dont cross others boating wake. And for GODs sake dont go swimming in the middle of the lake- the main path for boaters and skiers on the move. Please move to one of the inlets or closer to the banks for lounging and swimming. I pray for his recovery and hope the family is appreciative of the outstanding work of Blairsvilles emergency services and the dnr. I pray that they dont become vindictive or lawsuit happy over a accident.the operator of the other boat was not careless or stupid or drinking just a mistake. I pray that they also will heal emotionally

As of Sunday July 12, 7:17 pm

Specific Prayer Request:

We need prayer for Austin's brain pressure to stay steady! They took him off of the drip that causes his brain to go into a deep rest and his body began to respond by pushing up his brain pressure. It's such a fine line when attempting to ween off of medicine. The pressure will go up and then come down.

They may have to start the drip back again just to keep the pressure steady. We need to keep praying that his pressure stabilizes!

Everything else looks good so far but they have to modify so many things that one thing may look good now but may go up or down later based on changes to the medicines.

Again, pray specifically for his brain pressure to become stable.

Thanks,
Chris (Dad)

should have charged the driver with reckless endangerment. I see this type of character almost everyday on the lake. This lake is not crowded like Lanier so there is absolutely no reason to go anywhere near another boat. This may have been a boat, but Seadoo type craft are continuously behaving with this type of wreckless boating. Unfortunatly all we can do now is pray. Is this all we will be doing the next time it happens?

I pray for his continued recovery as well. I know I'm a boater, my husband & I are on the lake frequently. People really need to be more careful & watch what they are doing. Be courteous & watch for other boaters, if you see someone towing a tube or skis, stay out of their path. Don't follow closely. All it takes is common sense & little boating courtesy, you're out there to have fun, not be injured! Enjoy the lake & be safe

Know that this boy was pulled by his parents on a tube. He nor his parents were drinking. The other boater quite possibly had. Not sure. You can find out updates at www.caringbridge.org/visit/austinsgreatjourne...

I am a friend of Austin and his family. He was hit by a boat being driven by people he did not know. Thank you for your prayers. Please keep praying. He is making progress.. His parents have not been back to their house since July 4th. He is awake and learning to walk and talk again. He has many more weeks of rehab, but God is hearing our prayers. Austin is a great kid who was to leave for college this week.

I praise God that Austin is recovering and am thankful for the daily updates on Caring Bridge!
I do wonder, however, WHY the driver of the boat that hit him has never contacted Austin's family to apologize and to find out how Austin is doing.
