Forget all this political talk, I admit being totally confounded by another more important quandary.

What is it with people voluntarily surrounding themselves with mind numbing, car rattling, hearing damaging noise ?

I took some kids bowling today as a prize for doing well in math and science class. On the way there, twice our car was rattled by the music blasting from the huge speakers of cars neat to us at the stop lights.

At the bowling alley, the music was so loud after an hour the adults all had headaches.

Now at the movie theater with my kids, and the movie is so loud I left to get earplugs for me and the kids I keep in the car so we can stop by the range and practice whenever the mood strikes.

Why must everything around us be so damn loud ?

Sorry - maybe just venting, back to the movie - pray for my hearing.

A couple of years ago I went through OCS induction physical in Atlanta for the Air Force. Probably seventy of us. The most common cause of failing the physical among the recruits was hearing loss!

Kids and I wore earplugs through the entire movie.

Asked manager after the movie why it was so loud. He said it was "part of the experience."

Inormed, what you are experiencing is nothing more than a sinister and far reaching conspiracy that exists between the music/sound systems industry and the hearing-aid industry. Belltone is @$43.00 ps or an increase of 9% since December. Beg your pardon?

Good point.

Although my Grandpa said that one of life's blessings was being able to claim he "forgot" to replace the batteries in his hearing aids. Grandma would ceaselessly prattle on, and on, and on, while he would just serenely watch baseball without a care in the world.

She accused him of letting his batteries die on purpose - which he vehemently denied.

Later, when she got fed up and had the batteries replaced at the store, he just broke the damn things.
