Mason has an issue with tinted windows on the patrol vehicles and claims the tint will be reduced.

Tonight, I was in town and noticed how many vehicles have tinting as dark if not darker than the patrol cars. Many of the vehicles are from Florida.

Will Mason hold drivers accountable for window tinting that is too dark? I sure hope so.

I thought that window tinting on the front windows (driver and passenger) was illegal in Georgia if it obscures a view of the driver. If so, Mack should enforce the law, I suppose.

If the tinting on a vehicles' windows are in accordance with both the Federal Regulation and the State laws where the vehicle is registered it is legal for that vehicle to operate in all States.

Are you certain about that? Your logic definitely does NOT hold true for firearms within a vehicle. Legally having a handgun in your glovebox in your state of origin does NOT permit such in certain other states- regardless of "Federal" law.

The above is a briefing of the GA law on vehicle window tinting.

Problem is many of those people with FL license plates live here half the year. Many of the vehicles had GA plates but looked like they were straight out of Miami, if you know what I mean.

It doesn't matter what state the vehicle is registered in, it must comply with the laws of Georgia for the window tint.Affected Drivers

Georgia's window tinting laws apply to both residents and to nonresidents driving in the state. Even if the window tint is legal in the state of registration, driving the vehicle in Georgia is a misdemeanor offense. Any installer who installs illegal window tint in the state of Georgia is also guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by law. The Department of Motor Safety may issue an exemption to persons who have a medical need for darker tinting.

Thanks for the info. Interesting considering the fact that each State has its own Laws pertaining to window tinting. I would bet that if this portion of the GA Law went to court it would be killed by the courts. Be interesting to pass this by a Constitutional Attorney.

Pass it by them... Every state I have lived in has the same type of law. When you cross the state lines you are governed by that state not the one you left.

Not totally true statement. For example, many States require various vehicle inspections, many have no requirement. Those with these required inspections don't/won't stop out of State vehicles that are not inspected. I'm sure there are many other cases of this type.

My brother-in-law, who lives in SouthWest GA, was fined $250.00 for having his truck windows too dark. When he bought the truck, the windows were already tinted. Didn't matter to the GA State Patrolwho ticketed him.

Laws do not apply to many ( not all) police departments The term SERVE and PROtect has lost much of its meaning. I was stopped in Union County by a State patrol officer and it was a by a very postive and professional officer. Others that I know have had just the opposite.

Then it was an aftermarket tint because All auto manufacturers are in compliance with NHTSA and DOT requirements when it comes to window tint and All states are required to honor those standards.

Personally, I would not own a vehicle with dark tinted windows. They would render my use of the extended middle finger (otherwise known as the New Jersey Salute) towards careless drivers, practically useless.

Window Tint...who really rides around worrying other people's "blacked out" cars?!?!? Window tint violations are petty an if Mason start flooding the courts with them it's gonna really piss off a lot of people and Judges for wasting their time. Which in turn will make his re-election basically non existent. We have real problems in this county to worry about...like Burglaries and Drugs. Who cares if someone's car looks like it came from "Miami"..that my friend is profiling. Some people actually work hard (without Goverment help)and enjoy spending their time and money making their car enjoyable to them.

I have to agree....if window tinting is the new sheriffs main priority, he needs to have a come to jesus meeting...he says he is a religious man.

This comment has nothing to do with window tinting.
If the officers' vehicle windows are not going to be tinted darker than the citizens, then those citizens should be held accountable for dark tinting, too. I'm curious to see how Mason upholds the law.

The courts won't be flooded. Where do people get these ideas?
A person will get a fix-it-ticket and a fine. No one goes to court unless they try to appeal the ticket.

Dark tinted windows is an issue Mason came up with. He needs to follow through all the way.

If you are the police officer walking up to that car I guarantee you will be worrying about it.
