I think it's over by Lamar's office. Profits are suppose to go to the DARE program, and the DUI school.

It's in keeping with our ethics.....

(per Lamar's Q&A)
"The vast majority of restaurants and grocery stores are in the city limits. There is only one grocery store and a few restaurants in the county, and if the city year, annexes close to town, those will also be in the city limits. Therefore, if the county gave licenses for sales of alcohol, it would produce negligible revenues. If you want alcohol sales, then you should be talking to the Mayor and City Council, and not the Commissioner.

Last year’s alcohol revenue for Pickens County was $44,000, with a population of 30,000 people. Gilmer County’s revenue was $71,000, with a population of 28,389. With our population being 21,000, it is unlikely we would even receive $50,000".

There will be no stand alone bars.
There will be no package stores.
There will not be Sunday sales.
There will be no exterior advertising signs allowed.
There will be severe penalties and fines for underage or after hours sales.
Those establishments who currently allow brown bagging may choose to continue as they are currently doing if they do not want to purchase a license for sales.

(oops, forgot to mention stills, dang it)
I think distillery operation could an interesting career builder votech program at the high school and N GA Tech. What a cute local and appalachian flavor. No telling what this could lead to in their lives.

I am talking about a real, lawful distillery that will be built in Union County. Did you read the paper?

NGN 8/21/13

"The change to the Alcohol ordinance include creating provisions that comply with state law to allow for the construction and development of a distillery for distilled spirits, Commissioner Paris said. "There will be two new types of licenses for distilleries," he said. "We're just getting on the same page with the new Georgia law that is designed to promote agritourism"

You can almost be guaranteed that one of Lamars cronnies.

Are you so ignorant not to know that the reason Pickens and Gilmer earned that much in revenue is because people drive through the area, stop for a bite to eat, pee, and pick up some booze at the package stores? We don't have the same kind of traffic going through this area.

'Agritourism'......that's a hoot! We've come a long wrong way baby.

So we can salute the heritage of alcohol this way. And since this area is the meth capital of the world, how do we honor it's heritage and culture. How about the local heritage of the 'pain clinics' and oxycontin trade from Florida to here.

Anything goes, and anything for a buck.

You haven't been listening to Lamar. The Community Center is going to bring in jobs, people buying homes, people buying second homes. They are coming from all over because of this Mansion on the Hill.

You must have been out playing golf that day.

Then aren't we now morally obligated to offer reparations and compensation, to all the local lives and families and decendants lives that were ruined by moonshining arrests in past years?

This moral/right thing stuff sure gets sticky.

Darlin', three homes sold on my street within the past month or so, and all are second homes. Sorry to burst your bubble but they are all golfers, too. They own boats, RVs, and all the fun things that new people bring along with them. Recreation. They love it. Lamar. They love him.

You should really get out and about more to meet the people who come here during the summer. Money. Money. Money. They've got it.

Why don't you just post the sales for us. We would love to see documents just once to back up what you say. If they did sell probably foreclosures that the banks keep trying to dump off. If they are in the click with the bankers I'm sure they all got a great deal.

Unlike you, I don't put everyone's business out there. Now, you are the one with all the inside 'documents' so go figure it out yourself.

ACOG - you live in such a negative world, I feel sympathy for you rather than hate. Everything has to have an angle and there has to be conspiracy and corruptness in everything. It isn't like that in most people's lives. Trust me, it isn't.

The people moving here have money. Lots of money. Most are retired and planned well for their future. Added taxes and little bumps in the road do not affect them as it is part of life. People would rather enjoy their fabulous home that fits their lifestyle, add a big garage for the boat, a shelter for their RV, and all the lovely things people do with their property.

You just don't seem to know the right people, do you? Sad for you.

Oh, I forgot these retirees hire a fabulous local woman landscaper to get their property looking attractive, local contractors and people to build, haul gravel, lay concrete, paint, decorate, and provide personal services.

What do you do except bitch and moan, cause problems, and try to stir up shit? Do you think any of the people I know or the ones who are my clients even know your name or care? They don't.

I haul my own gravel, I lay my own concrete and pavers I paint and decorate my own home just as most every homeowner in Blairsville and the United states.

We know the value of a dollar , we earn it the hard way.

We have enough sense to know when the government is wasting and spending OUR MONEY FOOLISHLY.

Just like most every homeowner in the USA and Blairsville? What an odd comment. Why are there pages and pages of companies who do such work in the phone book? Hmmmm? Some of us are tired of doing it all and can afford to hire people to help out, do a professional job, and earn an income. Half-timers and retirees who reside in Union County keep this town alive by employing workers, so I don't consider it to be spending money foolishly. It has nothing to do with the government.
