As long as you keep talking about corruption going on in our town and county, no candidate you back, support, or cheer for will ever get enough votes to make a difference. You are the kiss of death for any candidate that wants to make a real change in how politics are done in our community. There is politics as usual, there is "good ole boy" politics, there is cronyism towards companies that have people they went to school with. While any of those have the potential to devolve into corruption, there is no corruption here. You get everyone's hackles up every time you talk about it which helps drive voters to the polls to vote against whomever you support and ensures the loss of anyone that would try a more enlightened path.

<quoted text>I agree with you but we will need to get behind any candidate that runs against the fruitless council and mayor we are currently stuck with. If you live in the city vote for a new and honest govt. and if you don't live in the city talk to the friends you have in the city. Hopefully we will have several candidates to choose from.
In the Town of Blairsville you will always have a low turnout simply based upon population, actual registered voters, and the percentage that consistently actually vote.

The political machine will always maintain its strong hold and produce the expected necessary winning votes for it's chosen incumbent, short of a major and/or devastating need to "recover/regroup". Such as was somewhat witnessed in the past Sheriff’s and Tax Commissioner’s races.

In order for a people’s candidate to have a remote chance of overcoming such overwhelming odds from the start, it is imperative that they not dilute the voting strength that they are able to muster. So, from the very beginning there must be agreement to rally around a candidacy being the most viable and likely to be successful in bringing home the victory.

To divide a vote tally, which we know is likely to start from behind, and will ultimately result in utter failure and defeat, isn't logical.

We all know time is of the essence, and the election nears.

It is imperative, in my view, that Frank Pack "qualify" to run for Mayor, and not mount a "write in campaign".

Secondly, those who recognize the need for NEW positive and RESPONSIVE LEADERSHIP in the Office of Mayor of Blairsville, must arrange conversation and/or a meeting with Mr. Pack and Mr. Payton as of ‘yesterday’ and all in a sincere logical business oriented fashion determine the candidate most capable of a victorious challenge and give full support to that ONE Candidate.

Actually, one needs to look no further than the last Sheriff and Tax Commissioner's defeat to realize that your comments just simply don't hold water.

Embezzlement of public funds is indeed corruption.

Fraud is indeed corruption.

Those you disparage supported the victorious NEW LEADERSHIP.

You may wish to ignore, or twist the argument as you please; it's not that I wish to beat a dead horse.

My point is simply there was corruption in both County Offices ... that you either failed to see, or ignored.

Nevertheless, the PEOPLE of Union County voted to expunge that cancer, regardless of who expressed or exposed their support for the clean up in leadership.

Let us hope that enough people will show enough interest in their own future to throw out the worthless administration we currently have and put in people who have the good sense and ability to bring Blairsville back into good shape infrastructure wise. The current mayor and council have wasted close to a million dollars on the DDA in the last 8 years. They now have the citizens over a million in debt for a piece of land that should have been left to private development. The streets or deteriorating while they concentrate on the town square. Just look at any st. in the city. They have never and will never use the proceeds from the water and sewer to upgrade or even maintain the system. They are always borrowing and asking for someone to give them the money. The money that is given is our money also.

Unfortunately people have very short memories.

Let us not forget the obstinacy of the Mayor and Council with regards to the unreasonable, oppressive and unnecessary sign ordinance ultimately resulting in a lawsuit of which they were duly warned, refused reason, LOST; and then the costs of those proceeding, and ensuing settlement were concealed from the taxpayers paying the costs.

Certainly, it is high time for the selfish self-serving antics of this small, but elitist controlled, group to be replaced by a responsive representative being truly of the people who actually reflects the desires of dedicated hard working people who have been steadfast; not only in our efforts maintain our beloved heritage, but are sincere in striving to improve conditions for all who live in Blairsville/Union County.

You have people with no business experience and very litt le life experience trying to play city leaders. They lack the intelligence and outlook to govern. If we don't change the mayor and the two council seats this term we will be stuck with no leadership for at least two more years..

Today's paper announcing who is on the Ballot for the city election. No new councilman and two for mayor. Also has an ad from Conley telling of all the good he has done. Problem is none of it is for the residents. Maybe he should have looked after the people and forgot about the Banksters.

Any news on this election? I would venture to guess that the new walkway around the square isn't going to help Conley. Can you imagine spending a half a million dollars on that? Anyone seen the guy running against him? I seem to have ask a lot of questions has any8one got any answers?

City voters are the least informed and the most clannish of all voters. They remind you of a city of zombies that used to be popular in the movies.

Is the qualifying for Mayor and Council over? If not when does it start and end?

When does early voting for Town elections start, which includes, I understand SPLOST?

Why haven't we not yet been informed as to EXACTLY what the NEW SPLOST is needed for, and precisely what program(s) it will be designated for, and in what amounts.

Why are folks living and working in Town afraid to run for Mayor and Council?

How much did the sign ordinance lawsuit that the Town lost actually cost us? Why has it been concealed? Wasn’t that our money? Didn’t they mess up? Weren’t they told beforehand? Didn’t they ignore us, and WITH ATTITUDE?

Why does the Town funnel money through the DDA for expenditures, which the Town can't legally make? Wouldn’t any of its citizens using such scheming be charged with fraud? And most probably be arrested?

How much did our share (required percentage cost, commitment) of the town square perceived fiasco cost the taxpayer’s of Blairsville?

There is all the bragging about Federal Grant Money applied for and “awarded”. Of course, that money is ours from the start. The Fed takes those tax dollars from us thru the State, the State (Local) government applies for it back through various grants, that if “awarded” requires ADDITIONAL percentages of LOCAL tax dollars.

Another scheme, scam, or sham we have been sold that never ends and only governments may participate, all others if caught go to jail.

Anyhow, the point is, if we had just ignored the FEDERAL ponzi scheme, not applied for, or accepted the grant, and left the square be; isn’t there more important things our Town could have spent the resulting FED required share from Blairsville for the TOWN SQUARE sidewalks, and triangle road obstructions?

These are just a few simple questions, why do we never get simple truthful honest answers? I suggest most of us know the answer to that question.

The Mayor, claims pride in his past 8 years in office, as do incumbent Council Members of their past "service".

So, why is it they can't or won't answer fundamental questions about procedures, appropriations, and expenditures in a responsive transparent, open manner providing full disclosures of the peoples business?

And why should we taxpayers remotely consider re-electing them to continue the attitudes of arrogance as they operate in an atmosphere of deception, and secrecy while ignoring us, and purely refusing to respond to our repeated concerns with their open hostility and contempt.

Conley is a puppet clown for the two Banksters and goes against all logic to do what he is told to do. The DDA sucks over $100,000 a year from the city tax money and uses it for any little worthless project it wants. The city hasn't paved any roads except the one going to the school which I would guess was paid for by the school in years. Nothing has been done to improve the neighborhoods in the 8 years Conley has been mayor. You need to look at how he lived his own life before turning your life over to him to run.

Just read Conley's ad in the paper this week. Out of his own mouth he admits that he and the city counsel only do improvements when the state or feds mandate it. Don't know who his campaign manager is but they must be as dumb as he is. He is also putting in a plug for the SPLOST vote. If I was up for reelection I would certainly leave that alone.

The overwhelming of voters who approve of SPLOST is the group the incumbent wishes to appeal to for re-election. SPLOST is gonna make it, despite the caves' predictions on Topix imagination land.

I continue to be of the opinion that Mr. Payton should be commended for his honorable efforts to bring a more fundamentally positive fiscally responsible direction to the Town of Blairsville.

Nonetheless, my concerns persist that to overcome the current political machine; it is vital to support a more seasoned, and viable Candidacy.

A man that knows the treacherous opposition up close and personal, and recognizes each greedy individual for the cunning adversary they indeed are.

A man who knows and loves our community, and isn’t afraid to do what he knows is right.

A man who has the wherewithal to take the bull by the horns and do what needs to be done to restore pride, a business friendly promotion of our hometown Mountain Heritage, and bring jobs back to Blairsville without compromising those small town pleasures we all love.

A man who will bring that fiscal responsibility we all desire back within reason, not only in town, but who will strive to have it infect Union County as well.

Everyone knows in your hearts we NEED NEW RESPONSIVE LEADERSHIP.

So I implore you, if you wish to see a change this November ENCOURAGE - FRANK PACK- to qualify and run for Mayor of Blairsville.

I am of course assuming qualifying hasn’t closed, I actually don’t know. If it hasn’t and the qualifying fee is the obstacle, it seems to be worthwhile to raise the fee, and qualify Frank Pack PDQ.

Otherwise, you will see 4 more years of the same ole, same ole, plus a NEW SPLOST.

I pray we won’t let this happen.

I believe that qualifying is over and Frank Pack didn't throw his hat into the ring. I tend to agree with you that he would have been the ideal candidate but he must have not felt compelled to run. I believe that Mr. Payton is by far our best choice for a lot of reasons. He is not indebted to the power structure which makes him able to make decisions for the good of all. Conley was from the beginning bought and paid for by good ole boys. This is evident in his endeavors to expand the airport. We all know who has such a interest in the airport and why. The DDA is another way that he has handed power over to Head, Nelson, Rogers and a few other people who have their own future and not the future of Blairsville as a priority. He has done absolutely nothing to improve the quality of life for the residents of Blairsville but has spent a fortune on the downtown area while running the Merchants out with silly ordinances. Mr. Payton has served his country which shows he is willing to sacrifice for the good of all instead of looking after number one. He is a father which shows he is mature enough to handle the job. It is easy to abandon children and lead your own selfish life but it takes a man to do your duty and raise the children you are responsible for. The list is long and we don't have enough room here to compare all aspects of this race but the biggest difference is Morals and I feel you cannot fulfill this position if you don't have morals and a belief in Right and Wrong. You can raise your head in prayer for the newspaper to make a picture but the way you live and have lived shows the real picture.
