Saw in the paper today the poll workers for the election. Talk about letting the fox in the hen house. One of the council women's sister is one worker. Also said they were paying another 16 grand for st. lights around the old courthouse. They just keep throwing good money after bad trying to make a tourist trap and letting the rest of the town fall completely apart.

Their isn't a street in the city that has had $16,000 spent on in the the past 8 years. If that doesn't tell you something then you just aren't able to comprehend. We bought lights one time for the square.
I saw in Payton's ad that the city had to pay $55,000 in attorney fees for the sign co. lawsuit. How many more law suits are ahead of us.$55,000 would pave a street.

Early voting started yesterday for the Mayor of Blairsville. If you have lived here for any length of time then you know Conley. If you know him then you know he isn't what you want for a mayor. The old saying that Leopards don't change their spots is true with some people to. The newspaper ads run by him in themselves proves he is not trust worthy. One ad said that water payments could only be used for use by the water dept. The city gives $55,000 to the DDA to spend as they please with no oversight. The woman who works for the DDA gets another 20 odd thousand. The Mayor and Council get another 60 thousand or so. The police dept. has a large budget with a chief and about 5 or 6 officers. Take another 20 thousand for interest being paid on their land purchase. All of this before you even start paying for street lighting, street repair which there has been very little, utilities and on and on. Now do you really think that the property tax could pay all this. I think not. This is just one instance of the lies you have been fed.

How about how we keep hearing that we need to come to council meetins to know what is lgoing on. Do yoou think that everone in other towns go to council meetings to find out what is going on. We know better. The council and mayor or very disrespectful to people who come to council meetings and if you want to address anything they limit you as to how long you can speak. Course they can speak for as long as they want. You also have to tell them in advance if you have something to say.
Have you ever seen an advertisement for help f9or the city. Most likely not. They hire from friends and relatives and not who is best for the city. They have just hired a new person. I don't know who it is land don't care but the job wasn't advertised. The person who got the job was already working and had to work a notice. Wouldn't it have been nice to give someone a job who didn't already have one?
These are just a few of the things going on in your town. Vote for change. Conley wants to brag about what he has done but the truth is that he is only suppose to do what he is directed to do by the council.

ACOG received a tip today that the mayor and city council are buying votes by paving driveways and landscaping yards which they previously refused to do. Now they are doing it to get votes. Also was told they are striping streets.

Last election we were told they were driving voters to the polls.

All this is illegal according to electrion laws and the attorney General.

Looks like ACOG needs to start looking into the illegal activities of the city and what they are up to.

It's a shame we can not have honest elected officials running our country.

This is business as usual in Union County. It is long over due that someone gets charged with election fraud. Our elected officials can't stand on their job performance and have to resort to this kind of action. If you have been approached by the mayor, council or a member of the DDA to get your vote through getting a favor report it. This is your community. Take some pride it it instead of being part of the problem.

If you want to know who is getting favors just look. It is quite evident. Let the Secretary of State simply ask them. They sure can't deny it.

Well it looks as though the city has gotten around to widening the entrance to the city streets to help traffic turning in and out. That is great except they had to wait until a week before the election. That's a Glenn Gooch trick in case anyone hasn't seen that before. Even using the same contractor as Gooch. Only difference is Gooch was a likeable person and Conley and most of the council are not. Wonder what comes next. Maybe ole Jim will have a beer bust and Backyard cookout. I could stand a good hamburger. Wonder why everyone had to wait until the downtown project was finished to get all these improvements out in the city. Didn't take but a couple of days to do and the square took 6 months. Looks as though everyone would have benefited more to have done the 2 day job first.
What is curious to me is that these little projects of striping the street for someone and whatnot should take council approval. Wonder if it is in the minutes of the meetings? If it is then they are just as guilty as the mayor in trying to buy votes. I love it that they think the people are that stupid. It would take a stupid person to vote for their type of govt.

Conley is most likely the dumbest mayor the city has ever had. He was in no way qualified to be mayor to start with but a small group of people who think they own the world managed to get him in. He did nothing in life to support his position and in fact someone who lived their life the way he did should make up for the wrong he has done rather than being put in a position of authority.

Hopefully the city has enough competent voters to send him home.

On August 8, 2012 the Downtown Development Authority of Blairsville purchased the combined 8.27 Acre Parcels B02-065 & B02-065A for $2,000,000.$2,000,000 divided by 8.27 acres =$241,838 / acre.

Guess who's holding the note, making money on the Interst? United Community Bank.

Huge truckloads of the Tax Payer Monies goes towards paying interest.... to the Bank.

QUESTION: Can you identify any Bank Officers / Directors that also are part of decision making governmental entities - that influence these loans?

Wow! Wish I had had the time to read last weeks paper last week.

So, much deception so little time for rebuttal.

MAYOR:

Page 7A, NGN Mayors Political AD (propaganda)(read with magnifying glass “big money getting scarce”)

The Mayor “explains” DDA funding, is set by STATE LAW (of course) as he attempts to complicate the issue by hiding behind the Chamber of Commerce (citing their “Tourism Budget”), and then stoops to dragging the Historical Society in as well, and, of course, we can’t forget “Administrations” share.

He gives the percentages of distributions from the “Hotel/Motel taxes nonetheless, neglects to address the primary entity in synchronizing complicities, coordination’s, and cooperation in the final financial asset contributions to the totality of the completed expenditures upon any given project.

In other words the devil is in the details.

I find it to be a gross mistake to suggest on the one hand that LOST or SPLOST while being sold to promote tourism, as well as to provide as a cash cow for roads and bridges, entertainment, and golf course Community Centers; on the other hand fails to produce the Hotel/Motel TAXES, the Mayor says funds the DDA, The Chamber, and the Historic Society.

As to the ADA ramps. These ramps are more or less an unfunded Federal Mandates. And the Mayor admits that you will pay for them. And how? By paying for the ramps to be installed at the intersections, the Town will “qualify” to “hopefully” get all your streets re-striped through a DOT project.

Sounds kinda like an iffy bribe doesn’t it. But that isn’t all. Guess how you will pay for the ramps? With SPLOST funds, of course. And guess what else. Don’t pass the SPOST, again (or forever), and you got it, they are threatening to “RAISE YOUR PROPERTY TAXES!”

And now, as for that SIGN ORDINANCE:

Yes, the Mayor, Council, and Attorney worked in unison along with “ the political machine”, comprised of some self-serving business moguls, connived to spring the sign ordinance upon Blairsville like a stealth bomber.

And yes only after, the entire community rose up in anger demanding to be heard, lawsuits were threatened, businesses moved, and chaos ensued due to unfair and selective enforcement, did the public hearings begin.

With obvious attitude, public input was unwelcome.

When a Billboard Company offered reasonable solutions and compromises with the Town. The Town refused. Then and only then, once it became obvious the Towns actions were illegal and indefensible, did attitudes change. The Town lost, and had to settle - costing thousands in Town Taxpayer’s dollars.

It has to be noted that the changes to the sign ordinance were made only after the Mayor/Council were forced by the courts to act in an adult and reasonable manner, and not by any willingness by the Mayor “to help businesses, make them vibrant and giv(ing) them a chance to compete.”

No, the Mayor has failed, both in his fiduciary duties, and in his feeble attempt to “set the record straight.”

The mayor has a forked tongue. He says the council makes decisions And he just carries them out and in his ads he brags about what he has done. It is just whatever suits the moment.

I think the above is a good post, and a perfect lead in for the following observation......

IF MONEY IS GETTING SCARCE.... WHAT THE HECK WERE THEY THINKING BUYING A PIECE OF PROPERTY FOR $2,000,000 ( TWO MILLION DOLLARS)

And they financed it... meaning the "scarce money" is now partially being spent on interest payments on the loan to the bank.

This is what happens when you give politicians huge chunks of advance cash - they rush out and spend it onthe first thing they see. They don't plan for slow downs. They don't budget like normal families have to.

Because they know they can just go raise your taxes and do it all over again.

TIME FOR A CHANGE.

No Conley. No Splost IV.

PS... they paid over $241,000 Per Acre for that $2,000,000 Dollar Land!!!!

HELLO! Somebody seriously cleaned up on that deal. That was NOT a wise real estate deal in the best iterest of the Citizens. And they did it at a time money was getting "scarce".

My Gosh! How stupid can you get! I swear - If Blairsville votes Conley in again, and if Blairsville passes Splost IV ........

Well, May God have mercy on you for your self inflicted pain to com.

Said by someone who does not live there, has never lived there, and only knows about it because the bank he got pissed at was headquartered there. We like it so much we live there. Grew up there. Plan on dying there.

So you go on about your airs, puny man. Get upset about a SPLOST that has nothing to do with you, with a mayor that has nothing to do with you, in a city that has nothing to do with you. Nobody much cares what you yammer on about because, you see, it has nothing to do with you.
