Be careful if you go to the Clinic at Wal-mart in Blairsville. On March 30, I went to have blood work done there because the executive panel my doctor ordered was listed on their board as $39. I asked the clerk named Asia if that fee included the lab fee and was told it did. I filled out the paperwork and she said it would be $58. When I told her the price board said it was only $39, she was not sure what to do and waited to talk to the nurse, Beth Dyer. Beth Dyer said I would be charged the $39 because that is what is advertised. I got a bill yesterday for $50 from Union General Hospital. I went to the clinic today, talked to Asia and she didn't understand why I was getting the bill and told be to call the hospital. I did, and left my information w/ the administration. A short time later, Becky Dyer called me back and told me the fee that I paid at the clinic was only for the blood draw and the other bill was the fee for the lab. I told her that I only used the clinic because of the price, since I could go to the Health Dept in Murphy and get it done for only $25, but since the price I was quoted was not much higher, I used the clinic. Apparently, it didn't matter what I was told. This is the second time Union General has swindled me... Last year, I was charged for oxygen for the entire 2 day stay I was there, but only had it for about 30 minutes or less, but since the nurse did not note it on my chart, I was still liable for the charge of $10 per hour!!!! I told Becky Dyer I would not pay the $50 bill and I would warn everyone I could about what the clinic/hospital did! DO NOT USE THIS CLINIC!!!

Before they draw your labs, they should have you sign a form that tells you there will be additional charges from UGH. Advertising it for $39.00 and then getting an extra bill is false advertising. Even my local doctor tells me you will get a bill from the lab or the hospital seperate from his fee whenever he does something. Should be no exception from the clinic.

If I advertise a haircut for $12.00, then send you an extra bill for $25.00 a week later to cover my shampoo, conditioner, and scissor wear, isn't that wrong?? To me it would be the same thing as this clinic is doing. You pay for a service and you expect that service to be upfront with fees, not misleading. Any of you would be pissed if this happened to you, in my opinion.

We ALWAYS go to Riverstone in Blue Ridge for all our lab and x-ray work. you know up front what everything cost and there is NEVER any other bills coming in the mail.. like when you have a x-ray done in UGH then you get this bill from someone for reading it.. this does NOT happen with Riverstone...and for lab work you just go in and get it done and out the door in less than 5 mins! you do not have to CHECK in the hospital and get a arm band and all that mess.
Never have cared for UGH..

Scoreboard, thank you! You do understand the situation. Eleven dollars, it was not an additional $11, it was an additional bill for $50, after I was told the amount I paid would be for everything. Funny, I hope you do not become the victim of deceptive business practices. I am trying to warn others about what happened so it will not happen to them, but thank you for your comment. Casy, I used to think UGH was an OK hospital, but had heard about some problems. You can be assured I will take my business elsewhere if at all possible!

PKM, is the problem with UGH in general, or the billing department specifically? Also, did/have/will you contact, via snail-mail, Wal-Mart HQ of this problem. Keep a copy for yourself and provide a copy to the B'ville WM manager.

Thank you for the "warning" about the clinic at China Mart. When I heard it was to be run by UGH, I, personally, needed no other information to know that I would never go there.
You are right when stating that "UGH was an OK hospital".( Key word being "was".) Now they are just a money maker and don't give adequate care or have knowledge of how to give appropriate medical care.
I understand many like UGH and the care they receive there. All I can say is "those" that sing the praises of UGH have never experienced real quality health care. I personally wouldn't take anyone to UGH, even for basic first aid, as they have possibly one of the worst ERs' I have ever been to. Can't say much about their nursing staff or Doctors either. Some are "OK", but most are ignorant and don't have a clue as to what they are doing.
Best think twice (or three or four times) before trusting your family or loved ones to UGH. Don't say you weren't warned.

Our insurance, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, will not pay for hospital lab work .... you have to go to an independent lab such as the one at Riverstone in order for them to pay .... they should have informed you that the lab work done by the hospital would cost extra and the fact that they didn't is 'false advertising'.
seems like doubledipping

The clinic is not only operated by the hospital but is owned by the hospital. It seems like doubledipping to me.

boodoodle, I specifically asked them if the $39 on the price board included the lab fee and was told it did. The executive panel I had done is listed. I went there today and took a picture of the board and also obtained a copy of the "corrected" price listing
which is posted by the check in desk. The clerk that made a copy for me also told me the price listed included everything.
Becky Dyer commented to me that I had "a lot of testing" done. The testing that was done was the executive panel, nothing more.
I am not done with this. I am starting to compose a letter to Walmart in Bentonville, with a copy to go to the store manager and a copy to Ms. Dyer. I know the clinic is owned and operated by the hospital, but Walmart does say on their website that all prices are listed so you know what you have to pay up front.

I'm not calling, I'm writing Walmart HQ, with a copy to the local manager and a copy to Ms. Dyer. I'm sure Walmart wants to keep the clinic there; it's good PR and revenue. If the clinic fails because of poor business practices on the part of the "tenant"... well, I'm sure they don't want to see that happen!

Call 1-800-walmart and you'll be very, very surprised how well you're received. Someone from the store management will call you and it'll be on reports at the home office that people see and they follow up. I knew someone that called in another state and they were going to have the CEO call him back.
