Lamar alone is enough reason to have a board of commissioners.

Does the "sole" commissioner have veto powers over a line item in the Sheriff's budget, regardless of the worthiness of the item? If so, would this be another valid reason for a commission board?

Where do you guys think the money would come from if we had a Board of Commissioners? Instead of paying one salary there would be, say 3 more salaries to pay for. THAT MEANS OUR TAXES WOULD GO EVEN HIGHER.

How much of a salary does it take for 3 commissioner?

Lamar makes over $100,000 and spends like a drunken sailor. Just think of the money that would be saved. Maybe the county would be more responsible and pay off it's debts if we had 3 commissioners.

A board of commisioners would only meet occasionally and would not be full time employees. Kind of like the school board and superintendent operate.

However, the public would be more involved and there would be more reasoned decisions with discussions, etc. Also, it's more likely that each commissioner will keep the others in check when the temptation for corruption rears its ugly head. And, at least, it would take all three to agree to the irregular deed or deeds.

And why did Paris buy those 3 acres next to the dead Poets facility on Gainesville hwy which no one ever goes too? Is he going to expand the area? or was it an excuse to use tax dollars to help one of his buddies?
The visitors there are only like 1 or 2 cars a day when open.

Speak to people in Fannin County and Murphy NC about what happens when there are several commissioners. You might be surprised that it isn't a cake walk. The idea sounds great but it is still politics and they will agree with one another rather than disagree. A panel of commissioners tend to spend more money than a sole commissioner.

I don't see how it could be more in Union County. As I recall, Lumpkin County moved to a multi_commissioner government very nicely.

Please read the most recent Fannin Co. newspaper for a bird's eye view of a three person commission. It is like a comedy if the county didn't have to suffer for the stupidity. The previous meeting was even more comical with one commissioner saying on tape that the commissioners did not have to reveal anything that they said or did to their constituents.
Didn't Murray County go from a soul commissioner to a three commissioner board and decide to revert to a soul commissioner?

For some reason I thought this topic was about the new sheriff's department, not the county commissioner. I must have missed something...

You haven't missed anything, the Sheriffs Dept isn't doing anything except arresting dogs and cows.

Only thing different I see in this administration is no window tint. I still see deputies driving into Fannin county. Thought that was supposed to stop under this administration? Also thought there were going to be zones patrolled, I have seen a deputy once or twice in my neighborhood but used to see them more before the zones. I've also seen multiple vehicles on traffic stops, what happened to the "grit" the deputies were supposed to have under this administration? Not satisfied at all with the way things are going. No different.

What are the many more besides sober? All I'm seeing are back tracks from what was promised if he was voted in.

And that's what you are going to see. When he was running for Sheriff he didn't know what running a SO would take. Wait till the end of the year when all of the sudden he is over budget and needs more money to run his department. You can't increase salaries and positions and stay within a budget.
