Unlike the previous Sheriff, Sheriff Mason is not afraid to surround himself with competent individuals. Let's face it if you were a college graduate with an advanced degree the previous Sheriff didn't want you around because you would pose a threat! Now lets look at the potential hiring pool in UC. If you want to hire somebody with LE background that has more than a HS diploma you would either have to hire from outside the County or hire retired LE that now live in UC. Simple choice from my perspective. In the future I believe you will see UC Deputies obtaining Bachelor and advanced degrees in Criminal Justice because there will be an emphasis placed on education by the new Sheriff.

Finally, don't be so ugly towards retired LE from FL. I'm 100% positive that they will be making a fraction of what they were when they retired. So we are getting educated trained and obviously dedicated individuals at a bargain price. Win for UC!

The REAL Killer, List Of School Shootings Known To Be Linked To SSRI's
Put a kid with emotional problems on SSRI's, sit him in front of Special OP's type video games most of the day, and it's what you get. It's the paradox reaction to the SSRI's that kids have, that's why there's a warning on the label. The paradox reaction is where the kid with strange thoughts, actually carries them out when placed on the medication.( And yes, I am a doctor.)

I do not recall the Sheriff having a degree. If so, he must have gotten it after his disability retirement from the GSP.

Why do people use the word local to judge new employees. There's people at the bank, counting your money, that's not locals. Teacher, fire fighters, mechanics, grocery store clerks and others we all depend on that are not "local". So don't use that for an excuse.

I couldn't agree with you more. It sounds like Miami Vice one the scanner with the new Chief Deputy, Chief Investigator and animal control. Thank God we still have most of the original on the road crew that know what they are doing.

If my memory serves me Sheriff Mason did not terminate the entire SO (only the ones he felt needed to be replaced). Therefore, I am very confident that the remaing employees will provide the necessary low down on what has been going on in UC. That said the new hires have years of professional LE experience which will be heads and heels above what we just got rid of! Show me the the facts without calling names if you can!
Another effing opinion. Where are your facts, bro?

I detect a strong "Sadomachism" tone in your writing. Specifically when you write "kinda like twisting ....... and watch them scream". You then deny your on meds????? If anyone needs meds someone who posts like that should be! As far as pushing buttons your cordial response tells me who is pushing who's buttons. In regards to your nasty mouth just another threat! No I am not a Mason cheerleader because I have never even met him, but I was definetly anti-Stephens. Please het some professional help for everyone's sake!

As with most successful commpanies, staff of both local and candidates from other companies brings wealth of knowledge and experience. Experience is knowledge that has come from years of learning their craft. I'm sure the SO will improve because of the entire staff as well as new hires aren't beholding to anyone else.
Union County does have a resource officer who served in that capacity, returning after a decade in Towns county. Darren Jones is a local who has has the backing of the locals. Scan the front page of the paper and familiarize yourself with some of the new hires.

Well finally a county employee who hires on qualifications and not the good old boy system.
Nice to be able to ride through town and not see half a dozen sheriffs cars parked for lunch.

Wow, cars with untinted windows!
Best off all I have passed three sheriffs cars in last week and not one pulled me over, before, they could be doing 5 under on the four lane and if you passed them, you would be pulled over.
Also on the four lane, I noticed they were not doing the usual 80 mph but the exact speed limit.
I like this new Boss in town!!!
I gotta ask, and I have no dog in this fight,
never met the old sheriff,
don't know the new one,
but does anybody really care about whether the windows on patrol vehicles are tinted or not ?

If they do, why ?

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I just can't imagine window tinting is important to anyone.
not sure

I think that what made folks upset about the tinting of windows under Stephens was the increasing suspicion that he and his men/women was "dirty"... and it seemed just one more way to "hide" certain activities and individual's actions. This was paradoxical, given that I always thought the tinting was to protect the identities of "suspects" in the cars- protect their reputations, innocent til proven guilty, etc.

Ultimately, many in the community lost their trust in the SO, and tinting the windows was seen as their giving themselves "cover". If taking it off gives the impression of greater transparency (pun intended) by the SO, then it makes sense to me.

It is foolish, isn't it?
In most cities, LE has tinted windows.
I found no problem with the tinted windows.

My personal vehicle had tinted windows when I worked for LE. Because of the work I did, I didn't want to be recongized on the roads. Most officers did the same. We were also able to submit information to motor vehicles that our license plate and driver's license information could not be released - it was for our protection. Other LE recognized our security code if they ran our plates. When I transported an inmate, the windows on the vehicle had dark tint. Some day, Georgia will come into this century.
