Windstream reduces the bandwidth when heavy usage occurs. Reduction of the bandwidth slows down the speed.
The problem is Windstream needs to upgrade their bandwidth capability for their equipment.
Cell phone companies do the same thing, promise fast and high speed connection without having equipment in place to support what they promise. They sell you a 3g phone and it doesn't work well for you, they say buy a new 4g phone and it works a little better. People still on the 3g phones service is degraded as more and more upgrade to 4g which in turns degrades as more people upgrade.
They are like government, promise a lot and deliver a little.
Thank you for an explanation that I can understand!

They gave me a discount when they cut off my service because they did not have enough lines. But they won't give a discount for the slowness of the high speed internet. Like I said in the above post the person at windstream said we are all paying the same price, it does matter if it is high speed or slow speed. Can anyone confirm that. I pay 69.99 a month plus the other taxes.
i pay 21.99 for 3 m.and its slow at times i have call and complain and they gave me 10 dollars of my bill for 12 months you need to call and raise hell.

Windstream charged us the high rate for years and our speed was one of the lowest in the county because we were at the end of the line...as far as service goes. When we moved close to town, the service speed up a bit but it is no way near the 3mps we are paying for.
(Yes, we are charged for the high speed internet.)

Windstream never refunded our money for the 6 or 7 years we were paying for high speed internet, when our service was the same as dial up.

The internet does run slow in the afternoon and evening...at least it is a relief to know that everyone is getting the same crappy service.

I have been on the phone for hours waiting and dealing with customer service people and it is always the same result.

Windstream is horrible.

Needless to say, for the most part, we are not getting what we are paying for from Windstream.
Notwithstanding discounts, refunds and etc., I would just like to get good, high speed internet that is reliable (drop outs are another issue for another forum).

Needless to say, we are not getting what we are paying for from Windstream.
Wherever we are in North Georgia that is serviced by Windstream, we just need good, reliable, high speed internet.
Drop outs, unfortunately, are another issue with Windstream, but for another forum.

I called the Windstream helpdesk at 1-888-292-3827. The young lady had me do a check of my download and upload speed by going to speedtest.net ..
Ran the test and got .43Mbps download, paying for 1.5Mbps. Called Windstream 1-800-990-3282, they did something while I waited online, and now the download speed is up to 1.30 Mbps.

Well after waiting for several hours to try and get to my email, I called and complained again. They said how sorry they are and can see we have complained several times and they realize we can't get service. They said they will send out a technician on Monay to check the lines. I asked why haven't you done this before now?

Windstreams answer.....It cost money to send techs out but you do not get charge so we are not allowed to send them out until we have several complaints.

My answer...You don't mind billing me every month for highspeed internet and most days it won't work so are you saying it is OK to bill me for a service I am not getting?

Windstreams answer...Well I am not the billing department why don't you call on Monday and see if they will give you a discount.

Last week windstream said I couldn't get service because I had a bad modem and that was why I was not getting service. We went to windsteam and picked up a new modem for $80.00. Got home and the old one was working. All there service is doing is costing me money for very little service.

Does anyone have internet service thru DISH NETWORK?

If you do please tell me if it is any good.

Thanks

Had trouble with computers, called Dell. They said it was my internet service. Called Windstream, they blamed Dell. I called Dell back and said I have all your warranties now get me fixed. They installed Google Chrome at first and it was faster than I've ever had. Now they have finished most of their checks and I am back to Windstream, the Mbp's are over 100 all the time. I had 2 serious viruses, a malware and needed some service packs it would not load.

I have a bundled package from Windstream and the one price for life several years ago, my internet service is very low priced. I have free long distance and some other perks as well as cable tv. By the way they did come out and do some new wiring outside and installed something new outside. Believe it or not prior to that when it rained I only had about 25 mbp's. Get a technician out they can help.

You do have to fill out the application, some of it is just informational. It does take about 4-6 weeks to get it installed but trust me, well worth the wait. I got 6 months FREE and free install.
Just call up there and tell them you got a paper in the mail a little while back saying you could get 6 months free and you just wanted to make sure that you would get it if you sign up. if the say no, call back. I had to call 2 times but got 6 MONTHS FREE. However like I said it does take about 4-6 weeks, 6 weeks for me because they had to run lines to my home. Well worth it.

You may find this interesting: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/02/08/moyers-...

While some may view internet access as a luxury, Crawford says we have entered an age where its a necessity for essentially everyone:ďYou canít apply for a job these days without going online. You canít get access to government benefits adequately, you canít start a business. This feels to 300 million Americans like a utility, like something thatís just essential for life. And the issue of how itís controlled and how expensive it is and how few Americans actually sign up for it is not really on the radar screen.Ē

Itís yet another realm in which the divide between the rich and the poor continues to grow and deepen, she said.

But itís not just the economically impoverished who lose out. Even those who can afford internet are getting a bad deal, she argues, claiming that in Hong Kong,ďyou can get a 500 megabit symmetric connection thatís unimaginably fast from our standpoint for about 25 bucks a month. In Seoul, for $30 you get three choices of different providers of fiber in your apartment. And they come in and install in a day because competitionís so fierce. In New York City thereís only one choice, and itís 200 bucks a month for a similar service.Ē

ďIn most of America there is no government factor keeping these bullies from charging us whatever they want,Ē she said, adding later,ďA few companies control access in America and itís not in their interest to bring that fast, cheap access to us all.Ē

Does any one know if an online compliant format would help.As a united block we can get more visibility.Would also advise new customers to go around the potholes of Windstream.Lets all get on board file compliants with proper authority.Windstream should be forced to refund all who are getting less than paid for.Not just the best at bargining.

Yes this happens all the time. I called winstream while it was happenin. That's when they said it was a line problem and would send out a tech to check out the lines. That never happened.
