Mike's Seafood on Murphy Hwy has great food, but the lack of no service SUCKS!!! last weekend my wife and I went there again for supper. It was 5:30pm when we walked in the door. The line was already backed up to the door. So we had to stand in line to place our order, it took 25 minutes before we reached the counter where we place our order, We paid in advanced and went and sat down. We sat at the booth next to the exit door. The line waiting to place orders had now made a 90 degree bend. People were lined up all the way across the front of the store on the inside to the exit door. That ment you had peoples butts, women with pocket books and coats hanging over the table while you were eating. I looked to see if MR. MIKE GURLEY was going to make people move away from peoples tables that were trying to eat and make them form a line outside. He was standing behind the bar as if he didn't care, WHY BECAUSE HE ALREADY HAD MY MONEY DIDN'T CARE IF I OR ANYBODY ELSE ENJOYED THEIR MEAL. I WILL NOT GO BACK TO MIKE'S SEAFOOD AGAIN TILL HE EMPLOYEES SOME WAITERS AND WAITRESSES. FOR THE PRICES HE CHARGES YOU SHOULD BE WAITED ON AT THE TABLE AND PEOPLE WAITING TO PLACE AN ORDER SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HANG OVER SOMEONES TABLE WHILE YOU ARE TRYING TO EAT.

I have seen people from out of town, walk in, see the line, make a rude comment, and walk out. So I know others agree with you, but I love the place and it doesn't keep me from eating there. That's my opinion.

It's much better to take a nice ride to Ellijay when you want to eat at a nice restaurant. We just have to accept things like they are here, rather than complain, I just take a nice little drive and be thankful that I am still alive. Lots of people I have known, have passed on. Some day Mike and all the rest of us will not be here... enjoy what you can....

As I read your post, I can't even imagine how horrible your experience must have been. What is even worse is that a person or persons forced you to eat there, then, forced you to stand in line for 25 minutes. From your description, it appears that with the long lines and all, there are a lot of people who don't mind the lines nor, do they mind having someone's butt hanging over their swordfish special. I seriously doubt that you can be pleasd no matter where you are forced to dine.

So, if I understand you correctly, we should all fill our vehicles with expensive gas, dirve all the way to Ellijay and support their restaurants. That, to me, is being very hard up for something to eat. Also, we should all support our local business's whenever possible. Have you any idea, the financial risks and the fortitude required to operate a business, especially during these difficult economic times? In time, maybe you and others who think like you will be able to sit around and wonder why we don't have any restaurants in Blairsville. Bon appe'tite

I like Mike's. Good food at reasonable prices. If you don't like it, go to one of the many other fine seafood restaurants in Blairsville and quit spewing out your bitching to other people on topix. Quite frankly, we really don't care.

What takes so much time and why the line is so long is the customers trying to make up their minds on what "sides" they want with their platter!!! I would imagine it would be a better system if people sat with menus and their orders were taken by waitress'. Mike's does have good food---that is why they are so busy. We usually go for lunch---not such a hassel!

Mike's got the best seafood in the mountains.
I do have a suggestion though that might help the long lines.
The backup comes from the girl at the register having to take orders and also having to take the customers money.
Mike could get a person to walk out to the line and write down the orders on the order pad so that when the customer gets to the register the order is ready by the customer and all the girl at the register need do is take payment. I think this would speed up the wait time in the line.

Another good idea would be if they would put up speakers in the parking lot and have girls on roller skates bring the seafood to your car like Sonic.

Now if the original poster wanted to start a boycott against Local government I would join.
So how does one go about boycotting local government??
we have to pay our taxes or lose our homes or go to debtors jail.
boycotting means not using the services of the government. We could refuse to use the park, visit the library, go to school, not drive on the roads or have any thing to do with the government. We could dump our trash in the courthouse parking lot at midnight when all the teens have been chased out of town.
There are many ways of refusing to use government services. we could refuse to take government grants with strings attached, we could refuse to register to vote, we could refuse to serve on juries, we could refuse to pay attention to local ordinances, we could refuse tags for our cars, wait, if we don;t drive on the roads we don't need cars.
I'm getting really depressed just thinking of all the government we are forced to use.
THERE IS TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT IN OUR LIVES!!! so maybe if I just use the government services I want to use maybe this would solve my dilemmas. But then this means I gotta pay for all those services I don't use. Maybe the government can be funded by user fees thus eliminating all forms of property taxes.

Now if we had a commissioner with a brain this could be accomplished. Norm we need u badly in the commissioners office..

I agree there should be a better and faster way of taking orders .... he could take a hint from Cracker Barrel .... they always have a waiting line for breakfast, lunch and dinner but they have a system where people sign in and they have a nice waiting area outside with rocking chairs so people don't have to stand.

Mike's must have good food if people stand in line for 25 minutes to place their order.

Four of us went to Mike's last sat. night for some of the good seafood. We waited in line 30 mi. to place our order, the family with 2 children in front of us could never make up their minds when they were trying to order. After we found a seat the line was past our table,i was hit in the head with a lady's purse and her husband took off his coat and another slap on the head.We could not carry on a conversation with our friends for all the loud talking beside us while they waited in line.If things don't change about taking orders we will not be going back.

They have great food but the ordering process could be improved.
