The way some people on here talk about some deputies, how are you going to treat the new officers that are hired. and lets narrow it down to the officers that are are hired to replace the officer(s) that quit.

They'll treat them just fine until they find out that they'll be cited for no seat belts, head or tail lights out, more check points, and nit-picking that our current officers don't do. The kindess of our present officers display when they see a woman making a late night withdrawal or deposit - will that stop? I've often had an officer pull in behind me to see that I was able to take care of business safely.

Six months and Topix will be full of complaints because their kids got stopped and cited, searched, or arrested for silly things the officers don't do now.

I couldn't have said better myself. All that think that Mack will somehow make Union such a better place will be in for a surprise. The new [or old] deputies will have a different, not better, attitude about their jobs, and what they do. I'm glad all of you Mack supporters got what you wanted. Prove me wrong in the next year of two if you can.

HOW WILL WE TREAT THE NEW COPS????
The same way we treat the Blairsville police force, with high regard and lots of respect as they are good people!
At least when a city cop pulls you over you know there is a reason and you are not going to get mugged.

Let's see seat belts tail lights all state laws that hopefully will finally start to be enforced.
You don't need three officers to give a speeding ticket like we currently do.
Hope Mason cleans house from top to bottom past do.

I'm with you buddy. The last thing we need in these parts is a sober doing right sheriff. Things were going just right before. I think Mack is going to do a great job, and so will most of the deputies, there are only a few bad apples. and he will get rid of them like anyone with any sense would do, so they do not spoil the whole bunch.

I agree, Blairsville PD are professionals and much better quality of officers than much of the meatheads that make up the LEO's at the SO. It is a good example of what we should expect when hiring officers and how much better Scott could have done, rather than just hiring a bunch of his buddies and their idiot kids. Except for the chief in Blairsville, he is kind of a ...well....while he seems to think he is magnificent, he seemed to me not to be the sharpest tool in the shed and was completely ignorant of the law when I had to deal with him. Or at least he was playing dumb to get his way.
But yes, overall the BPD is a shining example of quality LEO's in the area and what professional officers should and could be like. If Mack wants to keep his job, he had better not write tickets too often to county residents for minor traffic violations on occasion. It was about the only thing good that the previous SO did right. And they did ticket kids who were going stupid fast and speeding all the time. They had a very nice unwritten policy/balance on minor violations that the new sheriff should continue.
I do worry about the Scott loyal deps going on a ticketing spree because you know he will run again..nobody is going to be offering him a nice salary and job like he had. THIS IS THE REASON that it was so unprofessional to post that ad and why Mack needs to watch these meatheads...they are on the record as being loyal to a man we voted out and not the one we hired. I would hope he slowly lets most of them go or at least keeps a close eye on them. It is a bad situation and this letter and the underlying message/threat was the reason MOST OF US VOTED FOR MACK. He needs to show them the door and hire educated, mature and professional replacements both localy and from other areas.

I was in the Military and I look at the situation at the SO the same as my buddies in the Military or Fire Department etc. When you work with guys that you have to trust to back you up in arms way then you back them up, it's a brotherhood that no one can understand unless you've been there. I believe the letter that was written by the Deputies could fall in the same category as this. They were attack in the newspaper just like the Sheriff. But if my employer asked me to support them I would. If the tables were turned and Mack were my employer I have support him as well. It's what you do. It's a brotherhood. Can't some of you see the loyalty here? Do you only want to see the negative in everything? Do you really think that Mack is going to take office and NOT make some mistakes? I'm sure he won't use his best judgement at times, this is only human nature, we aren't perfect. Do you really think that he WON'T return a phone call from time to time. I didn't vote for Mack, but I wish him well. I hope he does a good job for our community. I want to see the my glass half full and not half empty.

Very well said would Mason not won't people that were loyal if the shoe was on the other foot. I would not won't someone on my team that turned their back on there employer just because they seen it as the easy way out. I know a lot of the Officers and most are very polite and very kind people and at the time was taking a defence mode to what that viewed as attacks on them as a hole.
great idea

Mason isn't going to get rid of all the officers; maybe a couple. People think they have an in with Mason but they are in for a surprise. The Sheriff has too many other duties to perform but talking to the public. He will be in court, attending meetings, training, and taking care of administrative duties. I didn't vote for Mack, either. I wasn't unhappy with Scott, but, like you said, TOPIX has a glass half empty attitude about much of everything. Mason will pick up where Scott left off, but he won't change a whole hell of a lot. Good luck, bud,'cause with the critics in this town, Mason will need it.
