Such a well thought out post. Tell me this. If the right wing has it's way and all unions are done away with and the middle class is broken, what happens next? Work houses? Child labor? Indentured servants?
Slave labor? Just askin.

That is a good start, so we can compete with China.

The point is unions drive away jobs. Detroit used to be a manufacturing giant. No it is ruins. Thanks to the unions driving away the jobs. Almost all the northern cities are like that.

Do you EVER know what you are talking about?
The loss of the production sector of industry has always been the natural progression of an advancing society. The manual labor force always shifts to less advanced societies to service the more advanced ones. The trouble is the general population resists what should be a positive change and causes a polarization of classes of the population; the "rich get richer and the poor get poorer" syndrome so common in this world now.
Japan is a society that got it right and went from agricultural to highly advanced in just a few generations, unfortunately their geographical size limits their advancement. If China manages their growth properly they will be the most advanced society on earth in a very few generations. They will change from manufacturing to technology as their infrastructure matures, if not they will crash just like the US is doing.

Timmy,

Americans can have all the:

4.00 per hour,
no pension,
no healthcare,
no sick days,
no holidays,
no personal days,
no vacation days,
no overtime,
80 hour a week,
dangerous,
environmentally disastrous,
and
unsanitary

jobs they want.

Just keep voting Republican and kill unions.

Congratulations - we become Haiti- the epitome of unregulated Capitalism.

Great post.

What most Americans don't understand we we didn't "defeat" communism in the Soviet Union.

Quite simply, the leaders of the old USSR discovered that by becoming an oligarchy like the United States,
they could still control the country, but they get the added bonus of personally and openly owning all the wealth,
as opposed to pretending they controlled all the wealth on behalf of "the people".

In effect, they discovered they had more power and control and got to be b ├╝ber rich.

Meet the new boss - same as the old boss.

Most unions have outlived their usefulness. This is why so many companies have been forced to move their operation overseas. The basic fact is Americans ARE NOT willing nor should they, have to pay enormous prices for goods manufactured in this county. They insist on purchasing reasonably priced products, not over priced items made by union workers. Higher salaries, pension costs, healthcare costs, higher fica, medicare & social security, and 35% corporate taxes. What employer is his right mind would want to stay in the USA if he didn't have to, when the public is not willing or able to pay the higher prices. This idiot President needs to first lower the corporate income tax to 10%. Give some incentives to companies to stay in the USA and hire more workers are reasonable salaries. The average hourly wage for a Union UAW worker is $65.00 and hour! You do the math.
