"our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost." Thomas Jefferson

"The people are the only censors of their governors: and even their errors will tend to keep these to the true principles of their institution. To punish these errors too severely would be to suppress the only safeguard of the public liberty.
The way to prevent these irregular interpositions of the people is to give them full information of their affairs thro’ the channel of the public papers, & to contrive that those papers should penetrate the whole mass of the people.
The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers & be capable of reading them.

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin

WikiLeaks, Assange, Manning, Snowden, are true American patriots.

Those who would silence these patriots are America's true enemies, far more dangerous to our liberty than any band of terrorists could dream to be.

What exactly is YOUR definition of "treason"? In what situations is it OK that the so-called "rights" of the individuals you cited outweigh the security of an entire nation?

How about "rules"? Didn't those individuals break them? They KNEW that they were jeopardizing American safety and diplomacy yet, for that, you call them PATRIOTS? They have earned RESPECT?? I couldn't disagree with you more...

When those in out government claim the right to secretly kill you or your child because the government decides you, or your child, deserves to die, then those in our government are the traitors.

When those in government claim the right to torture people they think need torturing, them those in our government are the traitors.

You would have fit right in in 1940s Germany when those damn traitorous Jews and their sympathizers rebelled against the Fuhrers' desire to protect the Homeland by killing off those who kept whining about "Human Rights" and the "Rule of Law".

Maybe on the way home, you could stop by the county jail and torture a confession out of some scared kid.... hell ... a few waterboardings and they'll confess to anything.

Damn ... since its the digital age... we'll have to print out copies of the Constitution to burn. No worries, when the NSA reads our internet search and asks why we're reading that liberal commie document ... we can prove it's just so we can burn it.

By the way... Stalin, Hitler, Pinochet, and Pol Pot called from Hell to say they're so proud of America's Right Wing Wackos.

Did you ever think the Germans would have the moral high ground and have to lecture Americans on the evils totalitarianism ?

Isn't it embarrassing that the country that have us Hitler, Nazis, and Concentration Camps are more concerned about American Values than Americans.

... There may also be anger at the arrogance with which the Americans marched into Iraq, years ago.

A series of assassinations ordered by the state plays a role, and the notorious disregard for civil rights in their own country and in the rest of the world has to be added to the list."

And Der Spiegel chief editor Jakob Augstein, himself, commented on the Obama visit: "Those who believed that drone attacks in Pakistan or the camp at Guantanamo were merely regrettable events at the end of the world should stop to reflect.

Those who still believed that the torture at Abu Ghraib or that the waterboarding in CIA prisons had nothing to do with them, are now changing their views.

Those who thought that we are on the good side and that it is others who are stomping all over human rights are now opening their eyes.

A regime is ruling in the United States today that acts in totalitarian ways when it comes to its claim to total control. Soft totalitarianism is still totalitarianism."

So you're on the government hit list huh?
kid too huh?

They've been torturing you and the kid huh?

Well, in that case it might be safer for you and the kid if you stayed off topix for a while, say like at least 1 year or until Obama leaves office.

Spoken like a true Right Wing Wacko.

Why gives a crap about the Constitution, Human Right, the Rule of Law, unless it effects you, right now.

That's why we can't trust Right Wingers in power, their self-centered, ego-centric, "it's all about me" thought processes do not let them consider the good of the country or their fellow Americans.

It's always good to hear from Right Wingers because it reminds the rest of us that they don't give a damn about their neighbor, let alone the country, and if you give them power, they'll just use it to benefit themselves.

As if that lesson wasn't learned from 2001 to 2009.

Wait... I forgot .... Those years have been purged from Right Wing Wacko minds.

Whoa... all I asked is HOW you could respect those people you named as "patriots", and you somehow conclude that I would have been an anti-Semite? I'm not R or D... but I am an American, and I darned sure appreciate being protected and (relatively) secure from whacko-extremist threats.

Your comments are SO out of character, IO. How can you defend the actions of Snowden/Assange and their ilk when they have broken the law and are fugitives from it? I thought you were former LE yourself? I usually enjoy your "right wing whacko" bashing, but I think you are missing the mark here... defending traitorous, attention seeking law breakers.

IO apologizes for any personal offense he might have inflicted. None was intended.

He certainly did not intend to express or imply anything about you or your personal beliefs.

He was attempting to point out that America since 09/11 has thrown aside the very values that make us Americans.

To emphasize how those who fail to oppose the government's Unconstitutional and tyrannical conduct are similar to those in Germany, Italy, Cambodia, Argentina, and other countries, who stood by in silent acquiescence while the totalitarians seized and expanded their power.

In a ludicrous "war" against a tactic, our government has assumed the very characteristics and methods that we claim to oppose. Our government bombs civilians, kidnaps hostages, has tortured those it chose, and assassinated it political enemies.

After years of ridiculing the communist Soviets, Chinese, North Koreans, and their ilk, our government now regularly engages in conduct that makes Stalinist Russia appear to be the "Land of the Free."

Now that would seem to be hyperbole; however, we literally have a government that claims the right,(without any judicial oversight, or due process), to kidnap, torture, and kill, anyone, anywhere, that president determines needs to die.

What happened to the Constitutional right to "Due Process" ?

Was it repealed and nobody voted ?

Did anyone ever actual conceive an American government claiming the right to kill your countrymen, you, or your children, without trial, hearing, or any due process or judicial review ?

We didn't.

The answer that "they ain't coming after me" is fine ... until they do.

A government that claims the right to wiretap, intercept and collect any and all Americans' personal communications.

What happened to the Constitutional right to be "secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects" ?

Didn't we used to require "probable cause" ?

Does just mentioning the word "terrorism" render Americans such quivering bowls of cowardly jelly that the 4th Amendment no longer operates ?

While the Constitution is being shredded, urinated on, and set afire,

A government that pursues and prosecutes "Whistleblowers" who alert the people to the illegal and tyrannical actions of an out-of -control" government, investigating and threatening to actually prosecute reporters for reporting.

What happened to the "right to a free press" ?

What "secrets" are so important to keep from the American people that require we abandon the one institution that Jefferson said was more valuable than democracy ?

We swear to protect and defend the Constitution, not the government, not government's employees, not the government's secrets, but the Constitution.

We swear to defend the Constitution-
- to defend the most despicable person's right to due process;
- to defend the most horrendous person's rights against government intrusion into their person, homes, papers, and effects; and
- to defend the freedom of the press to obtain and publish the most vile words, or the most secret documents

Our duty as Americans is to forfeit all to protect the Constitution - and yet our countrymen attack Obama for too many vacation days, whether his wife has bangs, and whether some knucklehead in the IRS was mean to a political tool -
and
stand by whistling with their hands in their pockets like Sgt. Schultz screeching "I see nothing, nothing !", while Bush and Obama, and their cronies and partners shred and decimate our actual and most precious Constitutional rights.

By the way.. this was written by three guys at breakfast watching IO finish his French Toast,(although he ought to be eating oatmeal), but he approves this message.

First, no offense taken... and vice-versa. I understand your points, but feel you are overstating them nearly to the point of paranoia. How, HOW can you even come close to comparing our govt. to the dictatorship that EVIL Stalin had in place? Are millions being imprisoned or murdered in America for "disagreeing" with the current administration? If Stalin knew about you fellows, you'd already be dead! But, you are FREE and safe to speak your opinions here... so any comparison to Stalin's REGIME is kinda just wrong.

I'm supportive of "watchdogs" like you guys, but you gotta do better at "keepin' it real" in order to remain credible. Also... choose your "Patriots" more wisely- I'm sure you can do better than Snowden and Assange.

We Moderates and Progressives have always been "True" Conservatives.

It is only when someone is soooooo far right that they believe we are "on the left".

My criticisms of Right Wing Wackos has always been that they are so convinced by the manipulators that Obama is a Leeeeeeberal, that they can't see that the difference between Obama and Bush is insignificant.

Obama is so Right Wing he makes Eisenhower look like a screaming liberal socialist commie wearing a flowered housecoat and huge pink panties - and yet RWWs keep buying into the fiction that Obama is a liberal.

If people are convinced Obama is a leeeeberal, then they're easily convinced normal Americans like Russ Feingold is Chairman Mao is disguise.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with being a liberal, without liberals, there'd be no Social Security, Medicare, or V.A., and we'd all have died from carcinogens in the ground water long ago.

Just for God's sake ... Stop attacking Obama for silly unimportant things, and start attacking him for doing what Bush did, only better.

The Right Wing loves to keep Americans all fired up about whether Bob marries Ted, whether you can have 10 rounds or 30 rounds in your AR-15 a2, or whether a black lady in Atalanta collects $26.18 too much in school lunch subsidies.

All the while, while RIght Wingers watch the shiny object, the überrich steal billions from you and your children, while the government destroys the Constitution.

Wrong again old donkey kong.
Obama gave us more socialized medicine, more intrusion by the gay lovers, more intrusion by the IRS, more intrusion in abortion, more intrusion in all areas of liberalism. With the power of the Presidency behind him, he is showing his true liberal colors by executive policy inmplementation is nearly every area he can legally do it. And even in areas where the sorry congress is letting him get away with it.

He is making every attempt he can to allow government to have control over religion, over our children, and over every facet of our lives with the intrusion of the NSA.

What Obama has not given us is prestige in the world community, partners who question his sincerity and validity of support, and a betrayer of close allies.

He has betrayed the State Dept employees with the Benghazi debacle, the middle class with Obamacare, the taxpayers with the IRS scandal, and the voters with backing crooked voting procedures.

He is exactly like Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, and the other fanatic liberal socialist communists in his party.

The moderate blue dog democrats don't stand a chance in the democratic party with the likes of him and the other mentioned.

You are so screwed up on putting the right pegs in the right holes when it comes to political leanings of people, you really think
