Remember how we progressives tried to explain that ACORN did nothing wrong, and in fact, ACORN had been the victim of Right Wing Fraud -

Well, here's the Right Wing confession, apology, and payment to ACORN for that Right Wing Fraud.

James O'Keefe Will Pay $100,000, Apologize to Former ACORN Employee

http://m.gawker.com/5989340/james-okeefe-will...

What O'Keefe is paying $100,000 for is not telling that it was the ACORN employee who contacted police to report the "Pimp" O'Keefe was pretending to be,
and O'Keefe faked another story by not revealing that it was ACORN who reported each and every suspicious voter registration form collected to authorities so that the forms could be examined and investigated.

Law enforcement at the time acknowledged ACORN did everything morally and legally correct - but thanks to this Republican tool, and Fox Noise, his lies spread far faster than the truth.

It's great to finally see a liar forced to apologize and write a check to those whose reputations were damages by his lies.

Your a regular spin-master. And you get an F in critical reading.
Former ACORN employeed Juan Carlos Vera sued O'Keefe and his partner-in-crime Hannah Giles last year, saying the secretly recorded video violated California law that prohibits recording someone without their permission.

O'Keefe's videos were successful, in that they led to a congressional investigation that eventually shutdown ACORN.

The lawsuit was about the secretly recorded video violated California law that prohibits recording someone without their permission.

Had nothing to do with the corruption of Acorn which still stands.

Some folks just won't give up on the lie -

ACORN Vindicated of Wrongdoing by the Congressional Watchdog Office

Nearly two dozen members of Congress requested an investigation after a series of complaints against ACORN and its affiliates. The complaints included an embezzlement matter, several cases of voter registration fraud, and the release of edited and misleading videotapes, secretly made by conservative activists that appeared to implicate ACORN workers in several offices facilitating prostitution. In fact the staff in most of ACORN's offices turned the pair away, reported the couple to the police, refused to provide them any aid, and in one case tried to convince the phony prostitute to get counseling. In no ACORN office did employees file any paperwork or do anything illegal on the duo's behalf.

But Fox News broadcasted the deceptive tapes nearly around the clock for several days defaming ACORN.

While Republicans in Congress, who for years had accused ACORN of corruption, used the phony tapes to lead an effort to successfully strip the group of federal funding in 2009. Months later the group was exonerated from any wrongdoing by every official and independent investigation.

After the broadcast of the videotapes on Fox and CNN, the New York Times and Washington Post inaccurately reported that the ACORN workers in several offices facilitated prostitution. The papers also reported that O'Keefe was dressed up in a cartoonish pimp garb when he entered the ACORN offices, when he actually wore a dress shirt and slacks and identified himself as a student or friend of the young woman who posed as a prostitute. As a result of the conservative's smear campaign and the media's erroneous reporting of the smears as true, the U. S. Congress defunded ACORN, which led to many of its funders and allies to withdraw their support.

An independent investigation by the Brooklyn District Attorney's office and the Attorney General of California vindicated ACORN of any wrongdoing. A federal judge ruled that the law barring the group's receipt of federal funds was unconstitutional. I capture the story of this incident as well as the history ACORN, in my new book, Seeds of Change, The Story of ACORN, America's most controversial anti-poverty community organizing group.

One of the activists, James O'Keefe recently pleaded guilty to charges of entering federal property under false pretenses when he attempted to embarrass Senator Mary Landrieu because of her support for national health care legislation.

Any questions ?

Yesterday, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office exonerated ACORN’s Brooklyn office of any criminal wrongdoing.
ACORN has been a right wing target for a while now. The conspiracy theories about the organization range from mildly ill-informed rumors to flat out crazy-talk.
Last year James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, dressed as a pimp and prostitute, walked into the Brooklyn ACORN office with a hidden camera and obtained footage of ACORN employees helping them set up what appears to be a brothel.
The video, edited, had been played on the news and can be found on youtube.
The Brooklyn DA's office was privy to the unedited, unvoiced-over footage and found that the ACORN employees did not commit a crime.
The hysteria over James O’Keefe’s Jackass-inspired videos led a charge in the House to cut federal funding for ACORN.
That ban was found to be Unconstitutional by a federal court.
A former Attorney General of Massachusetts, Scott Harashbarger, was hired by ACORN for an internal investigation. His report had determined the same outcome as the Brooklyn DA's office determined yesterday.
A report released by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service in December found that not only were the employees of ACORN free of criminal wrongdoing but it was James O’Keefe that had broken the law by unlawfully taping the employees of ACORN.
O’Keefe was recently jailed for trying to tamper with the phones of a Senator’s office in Louisiana.
The CRS report not only clears ACORN of criminal wrongdoing for the videos but also for voter fraud and abusing federal funding (considering most of the federal funding goes to “ACORN Housing” which is a separate entity from the part of ACORN that handles voter registration).

Harshbarger Report:

On the key question of potential illegal conduct, it finds:
While some of the advice and counsel given by ACORN employees and volunteers was clearly inappropriate and unprofessional, we did not find a pattern of intentional, illegal conduct by ACORN staff;

in fact, there is no evidence that action, illegal or otherwise, was taken by any ACORN employee on behalf of the videographers.

Harshbarger also notes ....
The videos that have been released appear to have been edited, in some cases substantially, including the insertion of a substitute voiceover for significant portions of Mr. O’Keefe’s and Ms. Giles’s comments, which makes it difficult to determine the questions to which ACORN employees are responding. A comparison of the publicly available transcripts to the released videos confirms that large portions of the original video have been omitted from the released versions.

Enough ?

Maybe on your planet.

Meanwhile, here on Earth-
ACORN was exonerated by every state, local, and Congressional investigation.

And that lying Right Wing tool has apologized for being a criminal, and us writing a $100,000 check to ACORN employee.

Ah... justice.

But hey, if you can identify the investigation where ACORN was found to have violated any law - just let us know.

Otherwise, the atmosphere on your planet appears to be low on oxygen.

Can't prosecute with a corrupt Obama justice dept.

Obama Justice Department Shut Down Federal ACORN Investigation According to Documents Obtained by Judicial Watch.

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, said that it has obtained documents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) detailing federal investigations into the alleged corrupt activities of Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). The documents reference serious allegations of corruption and voter registration fraud by ACORN as well as the Obama administrations decision to shut down a criminal investigation without filing criminal charges. SHUTDOWN!

The documents include background information on two specific complaints filed in October 2008 by Lucy Corelli and Joseph Borges, Republican Registrars of Voters in Stamford and Bridgeport, Connecticut, respectively, during the 2008 election season.

According to Corelli, on August 1, 2008, her office received 1,200 ACORN voter registration cards from the Secretary of States office. Over 300 of these cards were rejected because of duplicates, underage, illegible and invalid addresses, which put a tremendous strain on our office staff and caused endless work hours at taxpayers expense. Corelli claimed the total cost of the extra work caused by ACORN corruption was $20,000. Likewise, Borges contended that:The organization ACORN during the summer of 2008 conducted a registration drive which has produced over 100 rejections due to incomplete forms and individuals who are not citizens Among the examples cited by Borges was a seven-year old child who was registered to vote by ACORN through the use of a forged signature and a fake birth certificate claiming she was 27-years old.

The FBI and Department of Justice opened an investigation. However, the Obama Justice Department, while noting that ACORN had engaged in questionable hiring and training practices, closed down the investigation in March 2009, claiming ACORN broke no laws.

That's it ?

"Judicial Watch" - whoever that is - says that someone, somewhere, somehow, "fixed" the FBI investigation into ACORN - that's why ACORN was never charged, let alone convicted of any criminal conduct.

Take a second and go to the bother of Googling those very complaints and you'll see ACORN was cleared by the local authorities in addition to the FBI.

So let's see.- ACORN obeyed the law- reported the suspect forms - here on Earth, ACORN followed these and earned our respect.

But maybe not, maybe:
- each and every investigation against ACORN was "fixed";
- each local investigation was "fixed";
- each state investigation was "fixed";
- the FBI investigation was "fixed";
- the Congressional investigation was "fixed";
- that Right Wing criminal tool is apologizing and is paying $100,000 because he's masochistic and wants to be punished.

Yea, that's it.

Let's believe the confessed felon, who is paying his victim for the damages he caused,

Let's not believe the organization exonerated in each and every investigation - they must be lying and all the investigations "fixed".

That oxygen deprivation in Right Wing World is getting worse.

Maybe Right Wingers could Google Republican voter fraud and see real criminal activity - better search for it - you'll never see it on Fox Noise.

Yes Sir

Uhmmm,
A voter registration group hires at minimum wage and gets a good number employees who game the system.

Knowing that these employees are likely to submit fraudulent voter registration forms, the employer institutes a screening process to identify potentially fraudulent registrations forms.

Many states require that ALL registration forms be submitted, when the group complies with the law they are accused of submitting fraudulent registration forms.

Now, some might ask, who is on the unicycle traveling in circles, a good bet would be the political party with the failed message of exclusion that can no longer get elected by a population shifting away from a white majority.

Let's see:

Undisputed Fact:
A voter registration group trying to register low income voters is accused by a Right Wing group of engaging in wrongdoing.

Undisputed Fact:
The Right Wing voter suppression group files complaints against the voter registration efforts for low income voters.

Undisputed Fact:
The voter registration group as part of its own policies, checks the registration forms, and complies with its duties and obligations and reports suspected fraudulent registrations to the appropriate authorities.

Undisputed Fact:
As a result of the Right Wing complaints, the voter registration group is investigated by numerous local, state, and national law enforcement agencies and the U.S. Congress.

Undisputed Fact:
Each and every investigation by local, state, and national law enforcement, including the FBI and the U.S. Congress results in the exoneration of the voter registration group. The U.S. Congress' report, exonerating the voter registrations group, is available online. The press releases by the local and state authorities, exonerating the voter registration group, are also available online.

Undisputed Fact:
The Right Wing agent admits his criminal conduct, admits wrongdoing, admits "doctoring" the videos to present a false story, apologizes to the voter registration group, and pays $100,000 for the unlawful damages he caused.

Undisputed Fact:
Right Wing election "consultants" admit the charges against the voter registration group, the reduction in voting days in Florida, the "cleansing" or the voter rolls, the new voter ID laws, are all part oft a concerted attempt to make it harder for low income voters to register and vote. In fact, they claim pride in its success in Florida.

Now, none of these facts is disputed.

The conclusion is inevitable.

It's just a shame that Right Wingers defend the self-confessed wrongdoer, and attack the exonerated victim, to protect an obvious, but useful lie.

And they wonder why thinking folks can't take them seriously.

Maybe it isn't so hard to understand, after all.

A post-election poll revealed that 49% of Republican voters who watch Fox TV firmly believe that ACORN "stole" the election for Obama in 2012.

That would be quite a trick since ACORN was disbanded in 2010.

How hard it must be to be so embarrassingly wrong, so often, and yet, these goofballs vote.

Well, a rational person might question why a political party that champions the Free Market has such a hard time succeeding in the Marketplace of ideas. If their message were compelling they would welcome droves of voters at the polls and expand voting opportunities instead of actively restricting the vote.

Fortunately, they are convinced that their failure lies in how their message is delivered, not in the message itself.

And trying every underhanded dirty voter suppression trick to take away the right to vote to Americans.
