Offering 7.85/hour. I hope people don't have to choose between food or shelter.

Stop your bitching.

If Walmart paid a living wage and benefits it might drop its profits from $15 Billion a year to $14 Billion a year,
and we taxpayers wouldn't get to provide corporate welfare through Medicaid and Food Stamps for its workers who can't provide food or health care for their kids.

I guess it's better than sitting on your butt and holding your hand out expecting somebody else who works to pay your bills for you.

Seems like there ought to be a choice other than working for a wage so low that you can't live on it,
or
sitting on your butt.

How about strong unions that demand employees make enough money to support them and their families, and stop us taxpayers from providing food and medical care as corporate welfare ?

Well said. The only people that can afford to work at Walmart are teenagers, and retired people who draw a check.

America - a nation with a strong minority dedicated to becoming serfs , and forcing their children into serfdom, for the ├╝berrich and corporate profits.

That is part of that tourism fortune we are suppose to be getting. Work at Walmart or McDonalds keep quiet and let the tourist tip us so we can buy groceries at Walmart. Thank You Lamar and all the other folks who keep preaching tourism.

What a dickhead. You blaming Lamar because WalMart sucks is like Obama blaming Bush for 5 years.

All jobs should pay at least 10/hour for all full time positions; especially for adults over 18 years of age. If you are not making at least 10, even in rural areas like ours, you are not going to survive with out those "hand outs".
why not

ask Lamar about the meeting he had with Home Depot back when they were coming to town, and he got them to lower the wages they were originally going to pay the new store employees cause it would have put all the other Blairsville jobs wages to shame. That move alone kept Blairsville's wages pathetic by any standards. Living wage? ya right.

Well, folks are still moving into the county, and people are still buying land in the county, and these folks keep mentioning the quality of life in the county and what the county offers.

I guess they're all in for a rude awakening once they find out bad and terrible things REALLY are, oh if only they knew.

Yep they are buying land at ten cents on the dollar. Things are just wonderful if you don't have to make a living but if you are one of the unfortunate ones who has to work to survive then watch out. Oh My I wish I had it made like dumb folks like yourself. I could play golf all day and ride my horse and go to garage sales at the Paris Mall and attend my club meeting at the new club house and go by the community center for a steak and a few drinks. God life is tough.

You can't play golf and ride your horse. You have to use a golf cart or walk.

You have GPS on those golf carts to help you make it to the next hole. Maybe Lamar can think of something else useless to spend our money on. Does a horse need a GPS to see how high he needs to jump?
Just a thought

I happened to go by the club house today and since they are doubling it's size to accommodate the car club and all the other necessary clubs we have in town Lamar is using SPLOST funds. So folks when you go vote on Splost next week remember all the really necessary things it pays for. We really need a ZIP line over butternut creek don't you think? Oh My I hope Lamar didn't hear that.
Well you know

it isn't just Lamar's doing. The largest employers in Blairsville had a hand in that little meeting with Home Depot as well, even if they were not in the room when it happened. Come on, Blairsville's economic situation is not all on Lamar's shoulders alone.

The entire town is run so that things remain as they always are. Those with means take advantage of those who have none. And it isn't just with things like jobs.

There are big good old boys in charge of UCB (and other large companies i.e. local employers), Law Enforcement, Justice Dept and whatnot who also pull the strings. They all are a-holes.
