In fact, it is surrounded by not only by dozens (if not hundreds) of single family homes, but also several subdivisions and housing developments (Forest Ridge, Taylors Place, Fox Crossing, Poplar Ridge, Hidden Lake, Hamilton Place, Pleasant Meadows, Coosa Creek Acres, etc.). By Union County standards, this area is *heavily* populated.
I'm not familiar with zoning laws here but in many areas, the directors would have had to apply for a zoning variance in order to locate a halfway house on residential property.
Agricultural property is even cheaper by the acre than commercial and residential -- and it is more likely to be remote, having less potential for negative financial impact on the neighbors.
I'm not trying to start trouble, but if it can happen to this area, consider the possibility that it to happen to you and me, as rehab retreats/camps/houses in this area become increasingly more prevalent. There are ways to prevent this from happening, particularly since, as I mentioned before, Union County hasn't run out of more remote locations (or boondocks).
Zoning laws??? This is Union County. We don't need no stinkin' zoning laws. Besides, even if we did have a zoning ordinance, courts in many states have ruled that small group homes are a permitted use in residential areas.

We don't want any of Obama's Kenyan socialist zoning laws.

Whoever own that property should be able to use it any way they want.

Anyone who disagrees should be sent to China - no wait, we like Communist China.

Anyone who disagrees is a damn liberal - that's worse than a communist.

This is America.

We don't tell people how to use their private lands.

I would rather have a Christian rehabilitation center then criminals running rampet among us, which they are and probably watching your every move. There is nothing wrong with people lending a helping hand in this community. People, you need to get a grip because this is reality and live in your dream
World if you must and which you are. Be thankful these people are getting help and finding the truth in our Lord. you people the ones with the horrible posts, shame on you! Are you so perfect that you are allowed to judge other people... HELL NO!

I hope you are incorrect about the drug issues. It is with a drug-rehab home, and the resulting impacts on a specific neighborhood, with which I have the most first-hand knowledge of.
I'm not trying to change this area -- I'd rather it NOT change, and that is my concern here.[/QUOTE]

YOU NEED TO WAKE THE HELL UP!! Drug issues are EVERYWHERE! METH is everywhere! Do you live in a hole? And times are changing so wake up. Everything will change! YOU will change! You think you will be a baby chick forever? WAKE UP!

So would I!
For me personally it is no problem as long as Unity House isn't my next door neighbor. In fact, it is miles away from me; but not so for dozens of other home owners. I'm not going to be so glib as to say "better them than me"; rather, I'm saying -- our county hasn't run out of more remote locations, yet.
have you ever sat next to a criminal in Church?

Also, if anyone is interested...

Unity Farm was started by members of Crossover Community Church in Fannin County. Here is a link to Crossover Community Church that explains CROSS OVER TO RECOVERY -- Freedom In Christ and the 12 Step program that is taught at Unity.

http://www.crossoverchurch.net/recovery.html

These folks are trying to make a difference in out Mountain Community.

If you have family members who have issues with addictions, contact Unity Farm. It is just getting started. I think it would be better to help people with addictions, even if they spent a little time in jail, rather than condemning them and worrying about your house prices.

"We don't tell people how to use their private lands."

James Madison, 1788
"If men were angels, no government would be necessary."

Wouldn't it be great if everyone here made decisions in the best interest of not only themsevles but also their neighbors? Then,*indeed* we would need FAR fewer laws.

Does this have something to do with property values, or are you changing the subject?

Don't you think some things are worth protecting, worth fighting for? Fighting to protect ours and our own is an American tradition, isn't it? There aren't many places like this left. If we don't protect it, we will lose it, and maybe everyone hasn't surrendered themselves to this "change" you speak of.

There is always a price to pay for "liberty", and people have to decide whether lax zoning is worth losing something precious. If this is what the people want, then so be it. Sometimes people don't realize what they had until they lose it, and it is always harder to remove something than prevent it.

I am very much awake, no need to yell.:)

I belive that a mans soul is worth more than the price of a piece of property.I know alot of good men and women that have changed their lives through the power of the Lord. What I was getting at is if this were called a Church would it make any difference to you and your property prices.I have been clean for ten years.I know that these programs can work when people give them a chance.I believe that what is in a mans heart is more important than what is in his wallet.Think about it when you leave this world you will take your testimony with you not your house

I agree with a lot of what you said, gamule, which is why I have contended over and over (and there aren't that many responses here for my point to have gotten lost or easily overlooked), that my contention isn't WHAT this is, but WHERE.

Again, I'll say it again: there are a lot of more remote locations left to choose from.

If heavily populated residential areas were the last places available in the region to choose, then by all means, there would be no cause for discussion on my part.

If you are so worried why not call the people and take a tour find out about their work?

Gamule, I am proud of you! And to PersonaNon, who the hell cares about property taxes. A persons life is worth more then materialistic needs and it seems to me you are all about material needs. Don't even think about bringing politics into this because this is not what this is about, it's about our Lord who sent Jesus to walk this earth for everyone. If these folks want to better themselves, so be it! There is NOTHING wrong with that, at least they are getting help and what demons do you possess in your closet that's such a big secret? Tell us because you know you are not perfect! And by the way, I've been clean for years and yes, I'm your neighbor and I live in your community!

No you are not awake! I am an American but not a politician! You want to protect your material things! You make no sense! What is a human life value to you? Seems to be nothing in your book. Ive been clean for several years, does that mean I'm a bad person? Does that mean I don't deserve " the American tradition and values" . I have a masters degree, a job and a family. I'm a Christian also. People need help and if you live in a community that dosent have that outreach, what does that say about our community and our values? ZIPPO! There are functioning alcoholics among us that need help. There are teenagers trying pot and alcohol! Are you going to be there if your child tries this and loves it and will need help later in life? I'll be there for ANYONE in need! This world dosent revolve around property taxes and property values, that can go down the drain for me because a human life is much more valuable to me! You need to WAKE UP! I wonder if you go to church(and what church would that be?)and are a true Christian? Because around here, there are alot of people that talk the talk but don't take the walk!
