You know, it is not who complains the most, by this post alone it shows that Stevens was not doing his job. If people complain they are getting this and that, then they was not doing their job in the first place. Did you know most big crimes like drug busts, DUI, warrents, etc happens because of simple "seat belt" tickets? Simple busted headlights? Simple broken tail lights? Stop complaining, wear your seat belt, follow the law, if your doing something wrong then you deserve the ticket. Get over it.

Rank and file officers dusting for prints? I don't know any that are qualified to dust prints. If you really have any experience you know dang good and well finger prints are all show and no go. What are you going to compare them too? Dna is the way its done now.......... finger prints are obsolete.
yeah its stupid! All of our deputys should know how to dust for prints, a 2 year old could do it! Maybe if our under trained deputies knows how to dust for prints etc etc so many people havent been murdered up here. How many in the past 5 years? Lets not forget the well know teacher that was kidnapped on a busy road in the middle of the day, murdered, and never found for over a year (RIP in all respects) but maybe if we had a better department she would have be found faster, maybe alive maybe not, but her family could have grieved faster thus more. Mack mason is a sign of change, voters wanted it, let us move on to a brighter, better, safer , oh yeah more Friendly department!

Things I would love to see Sheriff Elect Mason implement within the Union Conty Sheriffs Office.

1. Take home vehicles only for those that live in the County. No take home vehicles for jail employees. No use of UNSO vehicles when off duty. No passengers unless work related. No use of vehicles for private purposes.
2. A true office for the public to visit that has either civilian or law enforcement personnel to greet, assist, direct, etc. citizens that need assistance from the UCSO. The use of dispatchers for this function is not desireable except during non-business hours.
3. Pay incentives for advanced degrees related to criminal justice.
4. Either train/re-train detectives on basic crime scene investigation procedures and practices or develop a crime scene investigation team to do what hasn't been done for the last 12 years.
5. Stop putting the names of people arrested in the NGN unless the NGN prints every arrest reported to them. Personally I would like that practice stopped for arrests but I'm okay with convictions being printed if they print all of them!
6. Implement a citizen/professional review board that contributes and participates in promotional advancements. Note: There are a considerable number of retired LE Officers that would be willing to participate in this process.
7. If evidence exists that a State or local law has been violated by a County employee or elected official they will be charged. No exceptions!

I feel that you have some very great points on here. Have you contacted Mack about these? I think it would go along way with him. It is relaxing to see a post on here that gives ideas and improvements for the S.O.

I think you kind of misunderstood or read too deep into my statement. Scott was doing HIS job by allowing the Deputies to use their own judgement when dealing with simple minor infractions of the Laws but when it came to major infractions he was always the hardest to deal with. Mack however has already made the statement that no matter how large an infraction is, it will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the Law, and this is what I'm waiting on is to hear how loudly the complaints are going to be from HIS supporters.

I've had several dealings with the SO,(NONE AS A SUSPECT) I found the deputies to be unprofessional, grossly incompetent, and very condescending. Having spent 32 years in a large metropolitan police dept I knew better than to give them a little advise. However when I asked why they were not dusting the point of entry or any other places inside the house for fingerprints, right away they copped an attitude made every excuse why they wouldn't process the scene. I have a strong feeling all that's going to change now that Mack is in charge.
My wife works a 3 to 11 shift at the county nursing home on her way home one night at 11:15 PM a county deputy pulled her over for no apparent reason, saw her in her scrub uniform and asked if she worked at the hospital, she told him she worked at the nursing home.So this UNprofessional Deputy now knows where she works and what time she gets off work, what kind of a car she drives, and as he was handing her back her license he said have a good night "BABE". I was furious and wanted to file a complaint, but my wife asked me to not cause trouble,,, I sure wish I did. I brought this to Mack Masions attention and he assured me that the deputy in question would be reprimanded when he takes over. Needless to say, Mack got my vote.

The sheriffs office should be in the courthouse.

Not at the jail.

You are so right.

Topix posters are clueless to think Mason or anyone else can walk in and start firing everyone. These are county employees and there is a process to work for the county or the state. I don't think most of these gossips have ever had a real job or made over min wage.

As a Constitutional Officer, the sheriff can fire anyone he wants. The deputies serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff.

Mason won't give people the time of day once in his in office. You write like you have an inside line to Mason. Didn't you read his vicious newspaper election ads every week. You voted for him, he suckered you, and now try to give him advice. LMAO

I love the comments, "I think I'll talk to him about this.." Right.

Because you voted him into office won't give you a front seat.

Really? Victor Hill thought that too, and it cost Clayton County 8.6 million four years ago and they all got their jobs back.

You are right that the Deputies serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff, but he can only fire them IF he has a justifiable reason and he BETTER be able to prove why.
