Come on Jeb, play fair. Are you really going to blame the current Mormon church for the actions of the early leaders in the Mountain Meadow Massacre. And there is some dispute as to whether or not church leaders knew about it - though, personally, I suspect they did. However, as much as I believe the Mormon church is not a Christian church, their leaders do not spew the hatred and venom that Wright does. There are so many things about the Mormon church that I admire - the emphasis on family and traditional values, the community support they practice, the emphasis on service - we could learn a lot from them. Unfortunately, I believe their doctrine is no more true than that of any other cult. Their belief of who Christ is and what God is are not Biblical. But while Romney was NOT my choice for the Republican nominee I would still prefer him over Obama any day of the week.
naw, aq it is not that I blame the LDS or the republicans. It is just that I want someone to fess up. If you believe that some wacko was inspired by God from some lizard lying in creekbed- then Romney would would have made a great choice. It is kinda like choosing between 'jack the ripper' and Ted Bundy

Maybe this explains why Obama is so screwed up.

He was educated at this institution, although no one remembers him being there.

lol Soooooo, YOUR links are correct and those you don't like, aren't????? DEMOCRATS OVERSIGHT????? You are absolutely cracking me up. Why don't you just turn on the news and see if you hear anything about the IRS scandal? SMH You must be getting your news from Air America again.
It's understandable that you find these links disconcerting since they show that Darrell Issa is cherry picking what testimony is being released.

It's predictable that you would avoid addressing that issue since this scandal has been nailed down from the very beginning.

Lookee here, it's those pesky links again...

In truth, I would have to agree with you, Wright is hardly mainstream - he's much more of a Liberation Theology adherent than a minister of true Christianity...
Thank God we have you available to tell us who the True Christians are...

A Campaign Pitch Rekindles the Question: Just What Is Liberation Theology?
By MARK OPPENHEIMER
Published: May 25, 2012
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/26/us/a-campai...

...In 2008, conservatives gleefully attacked the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., Mr. Obama’s home pastor in Chicago, for his provocative remarks in sermons, taken out of context, including his assertion that 9/11 was evidence that “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” They persuaded many that Mr. Wright was wielding something called “liberation theology”— and that Candidate Obama had to answer for it.

...While Mr. Wright has said his ministry is inspired by James H. Cone, the author of “Black Theology & Black Power,” the founding text of black liberation theology, Dr. Cone’s 1969 book is far subtler than any one sermon, no matter the preacher. Contrary to the simplifications of the past four years, liberation theology, which has become hugely influential, teaches not hate, nor anti-Americanism, but a renewed focus on the poor and the suffering, as embodied by Jesus.

“Liberation theology, at its most simple, is the Sunday school Jesus who healed the sick or took care of the poor people,” said Shannon Craigo-Snell, a theologian at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kentucky.“It’s what your Sunday school teacher taught you if you grew up in a church. It isn’t something people should be afraid of, unless they’re invested in poor people not getting fed or sick people not getting healed.”

Dr. Cone, who teaches at Union Theological Seminary in New York, defines liberation theology as “an interpretation of the Christian gospel from the experience and perspectives and lives of people who are at the bottom in society — the lowest economic and racial groups.”

In the words of Dr. Craigo-Snell and Dr. Cone, it sounds obvious: Jesus identified with the oppressed, not the oppressor. But Dr. Cone notes that many theologians have ignored poverty or subordinated it to other concerns. After the Social Gospel of the very early 20th century passed, the poor largely slipped from the agenda of Christian theology....

Great post.

As a child I believed in God.

As a young man, I believed in "the" God and "the" Church.

As an old man, I believe in a God.

I came to understand all religions become but instruments of the powerful to distract the powerless.

"Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything I hold in veneration - courage, clear thinking, honesty, fairness, and, above all, love of the truth."
Henry Mencken

Good people can do good and bad people can do evil. But for good people to do evil -- that takes religion.

What we need are cyber leaders. In other words computers and software programs that make decisions that effect the well being of our country. There would be no personal bias, kickbacks, lying or pork belly politics. We the people would vote for our choice of robot candidates and let them do the rest.
And no I would never vote for a computer named Hal.

Dr. Wright’s talking points (3.1.7) for Trinity United Church of Christ its Web site and the Black Value System
• The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology.

==========
So, Wright says his church's Mission Statement is based on the works of James Cone, fine - we'll see what Cone has to say. So, contrary to your charge, I'm not defining Wright's "christianity", Wright does a lovely job of that all by himself by his adherence to James Cone.(contrary to the apologist you quote):

From "A Black Theology of Liberation" James Cone
---"white theology must cease being white theology and become black theology by denying whiteness as an acceptable form of human existence and affirming blackness as God’s intention for humanity."

---"It maintains that all acts which participate in the destruction of white racism are Christian, the liberating deeds of God. All acts which impede the struggle of black self determination-black power-are anti-Christian, the work of Satan."

--- To be black is to be committed to destroying everything this country loves and adores."

---"the task of authentic theological speech is even more dangerous and difficult.
It is dangerous because the true prophet of the gospel of God must become both "anti-Christian" and "unpatriotic." It is impossible to confront a racist society, with the meaning of human existence grounded in commitment to the divine, without at the same time challenging the very existence of the national structure and all its institutions, especially the established churches. All national institutions represent the interests of society as a whole. We live in a nation which is committed to the perpetuation of white supremacy, and it will try to exterminate all who fail to support this ideal."

And for those who may be interested, here is one definition of Liberation Theology:
"holds that the church must stand on the side of the impoverished and the downtrodden, and that it must, if necessary, support the overthrow of social systems that contribute to their oppression. Its more extreme advocates believe that capitalism is chief among the oppressive systems in causing social and material inequities around the world.com bine the teachings of Jesus Christ with those of Karl Marx as a way of justifying violent revolution to overthrow the economics of capitalism. The bishops interpreted every biblical criticism of the rich as a mandate to redistribute wealth from the haves to the have-nots, and every expression of compassion for the poor as a call for a social uprising by peasants and workers."

Plan on really retiring here, or in Columbia, someday - but here on business.

Costa Rica is a great place for seminars, because after the conferences, there's no end of great things to do.

You're right... the employers and employees here love their public healthcare.

Folks here are amazed how Americans insist on making insurance companies rich, and can't understand why anyone wouldn't want public healthcare.

Most studies show that Costa Rica has the most satisfied and happy population on Earth - so I think they must know something.

Yeah, "quoting anonymous bloggers" is the best you've got. It's understandable that you do not want to address the fact that Darrell Issa had a victory cigar blow up in his face.

My post that you keep harping on was a direct address to Synergy regarding your penchant in general for quoting the Daily Kos, not a direct response to you about anything. I have not commented on the IRS transcripts because I haven't looked at them yet. But I will repeat, the Daily Kos- while a joke - is still better than posting an anonymous BLOGGER.
