I wonder what Lamar pays janitors. They do more than half the people he has working for the county. He needs to fire Griggs. We now have the view that is going to bring in all the development we can stand. The sheriff may have to put up road blocks just to help control the in influx.

While we are taking about AUDITS and HIGH UNION COUNTY SALARIES
let's talk about Mitch Griggs and what he does to deserve his salary.
In 2011 Mitch Griggs was collecting a $83,000 a year salary. He was getting a $10,000 bonus. He gets a car to drive and travel expenses. This is off a statement of Revenues and Expenditures. In 2011 Union County pays him $12,500 a month.
Has anyone seen all the new Development that has come into Union County?
Here is a little bit of information we have gotten in the last couple of days.
From the Union County 2012 AUDIT
Material misstatements were detected in the reporting of the County's Development
Authority.
During our testing, certain audit adjustments were required to correct Development Authority account balances.
The nature of these adjustments is as follows:
Audit adjustments of approximately $2,000 were required to properly record prior
year audit adjustments and properly report beginning net position.
An audit adjustment of approximately $152,000 was required to properly report
intergovernmental revenues and related receivables to offset eligible expenditures
which were incurred prior to December 31, 2012.
Audit adjustments totaling approximately $173,000 were required to properly
report capital assets and accounts payable for goods and services which were
received or provided to the Authority prior to December 31, 2012.
An audit adjustment of approximately $9,000 was required to properly report
expenditures incurred prior to December 31, 2011 as an adjustment to reduce
opening fund balance.
Audit adjustments totaling approximately $336,000 were needed to correct Development
Authority account balances. We recommend that the County carefully review all
transactions of the Development Authority to ensure that transactions are recorded in
accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Seems that the Union County Development Authority is delinquent in submitting his reports to the Dept of Community Affairs
Local government authorities appearing below, if any, are delinquent in submitting the Report of Registered Authority Finances, and are barred from receiving state-appropriated funds from the Department of Community Affairs until the report is received.
http://www.dca.ga.gov/LocalGovStatus/RAF.asp...
Looks like he is to busy bringing big business to the community he doesn't have time.
He took a big trip to Japan and Korea in 2009. A TVA grant paid his way but I bet the trip cost more than the business he brought back with him.
We could put the $12,500 into the courthouse security get rid of Mitch and have no tax increase.
Problem Solved for that tax hike.

The dev auth kept the money property to help pay for his salary. I was the one that bought the property and brought 20 jobs to Union County. I bought it at fair market value, so it was a win/win for everyone.

Lamar sold the Development Authority parcel 086-030-GGG for $55,000.
THE VERY SAME DAY the DA sells it for $80,000.
Who gets to keep the profit?

I will not argue with you. It may very well have been fair market value. HOWEVER, at the same time, Lamar was BUYING land using county money from friends and local insiders at HUGE Overvaluations. Compare the other land purchases (i.e. Farmers Market, Meeks park) which were all large rural land tracts vs this Prime Location Commercial Tract. So I disagree that the Deal was a bad deal, becasue it satisfied exactly what the Development Authority was supposed to do. BUT is really highlights how utterly FOOLISH AND OVERPAID the rest of the land Purchases were.

The Commissioner Buys High, and Sells low. I have no problem with this land sale and the jobs it brought. It was probably one of the only good deals ever done from an economic developmet standpoint (because UCDA has one of the worst records of failure a Development Authority could have - an embarrasment so bad that they do deserve at least one bright spot). However, it also took the land that was set to be used for the expansion of the jail. Now Lamar uses it as an excuse for why he is breaking the law and has abandoned the Jail Project as part of the current Splost.

No - I have no problem with this deal. It created jobs, and to be honest, at least they made SOMETHING on the deal. Much better tha all the rest of the abysmal faolures of the UCDA - or the incredible Waste and Debt practices of Commissioner Paris.

I lived there about 8 years ago. Georgia law says that a county, when disposing of real property, must sell it at an auction after publishing the auction for a certain number of times and days before the auction. Can a county "sell" the land to a county development authority without an auction?

Transferring to the Development Authority is the way Lamar and the city circumvent obeying the law.

LOL. The DVA is a joke. Seem like a bunch of hicks who have likely never left this county. How are they supposed to even understand what an intelligent CEO of a successful company would want? Never mind that, idiots like this scare them off. They have done nothing as far as I have seen. Just a bunch of good old boys who would be working at Wendy's if their daddy's were not who they were and any savvy person looking to mover here could read that in a split second. Almost like welfare for the local gentry. This branch of the UC government is horrible. Lamar is a bright guy, but some of the monkeys he has been forced to or chosen to bring on board are an embarrassment to our community. Talk about a giant money pit, and even worse, my impression is that they likely turn off the very operations considering moving here. Seems like for all they do, an office assistant could do it just as well in 2 hours a week @$10hr. I wish I were kidding. My guess is there are plenty of truly successful people here who have the skills and background run an effective DA that would be happy to do it on a volunteer basis for the good of the county. But that will never happen.

A county development authority is a "separate legal entity" according to Georgia law. It seems to me that a county cannot sell land to a "separate legal entity" without an auction. To use the development authority as a conduit seems irregular.

Take this as a warning - continued criticism of the Development Authority or elected officials will result in legal actions. We have driven people out of Union County before and destroyed businesses and will again if this continues.

Dark Male you are warned. Do you people really think you can win. You are the losers of society. We control the Chamber, the police, the elected officials. Even the blogs. Why do you think nothing you people complain about makes the blogs? Stephen Allison's brother-in-law controls Peach Pundit and kills it. We will not hesitate to have you banned from the county and forced to move

Really hope this is someone's tongue in cheek sense of humor. I do not fear you! You are not smart of enough to be feared. You might want to think of living in a country that has a dictator, as even with the President that we have this is still a land of the free!

Thinking that this is someone who is pointing out how ludicris some of the things that the officials of Union county come up with.

Keep it up it's good for a laugh.

Lamar was elected by the voters of Union County. He must be doing something right to keep getting elected.

No it is not tongue in cheek. It is the order of things and how things must be done. You have no right to criticize your elected officials or community leaders. It is an infringement and violation of the First Amendment

That is the exact opposite of what the first Amendment is about. So now I am thinking you have that dry sense of humor or you are a complete crackpot.
