Is this for real? Please tell me that there has been some kind of mistake!! How on God's Green Earth, could the General
Manager, Mathew Akins, know about this but yet DO NOTHING!!
I don't know about any of you, but to see a bill be almost $50,000 and never attempted to pay until it is exposed makes me mad as hell.
Like the lady on the news from Fannin county stated, they would have cut her power off in 5 days for a delinquent bill of $164!!!

What are they thinking? You cut poor peoples power for a hundred bucks and let that man go for years and owe thousands? Something needs to be done about that place. Don't forget about the palace they got over there. Makes me so mad!!

Makes me mad as hell too. How could $50,000.00 owed not be noticed by the CFO or the CEO. I would not want them managing any business of mine, and don't we all own the EMC. I just saw the story on the news with Richard Belcher. I was totally shocked. I wonder who leaked all that info.

Well we know for sure it wasn't the manager or the board members who leaked it.

I heard that there have been several members that are seeking a class action lawsuit against the EMC.

It's so obvious that the problems with BRM EMC go much much deeper than the monstrosity construction project in Young Harris. What a shame that the folks who can most ill afford to pay such high rates are having to bear the burden of a cooperative that is under totally inept management. It would be interesting what a complete audit of the books from an outside source would unveil. I believe the latest news flash, coupled with the headquarters construction project in Young Harris, might possibly not be the only examples found of your cooperative money being mismanaged. What a shame!!

The story is out all over the county and the phone lines are on fire tonight. How could key management not have known about this. They seem to know when anyone else falls behind on their bill. A disconnection letter is in the mail before you can say "don't do it"'. I think EMC customers deserve an apology and an explanation for this.

The truth was told today. The rest of the truth is this: Matthew Akins has known about it the whole time. This has gone on longer than 2 years. Two Board Members were told last summer and did nothing. The same employee that went to the Board Members went to Matthew and said that something had to be done about Terry Taylor and his bill. There had been complaints by some of the other employees about having to cut people's power off including some of their own while knowing that Terry had not paid his bill. The employee that went to Matthew was told to be quite and do his job. Which he did. Finally Matthew called the employee in and demoted him and cut his pay. The only reason given was that it was best for the company and that he (Matthew) felt like this person didn't respect him (who would?) and that other staff members felt the same way. Before leaving Matthew Akins said to him that if he could get this employee in line the others would follow. This employee went to the other Board members after this which was 6 weeks ago. So the statement that they acted immediately was false. Terry Taylor was put off the board last week. There is so much corruption over there and it needs to and will be dealt with. The Board is standing behind Matthew because he stated to them that he was afraid of being fired if he told them the truth. Kind if ironic isn't it? He was afraid of being punished for doing the right thing yet he punished the employee for doing what was right. Had that employee not come forward it would still be going on. Those 2 board members that knew last summer still would have done nothing and Matthew would still be running that EMC and allowing poor peoples power to be cut off while allowing Terry Taylor to continue to not be In Good standing with the cooperative. That is the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. So help me God.

I think Matthew Akins and the entire board of directors of Blue Ridge Mountain EMC ought to be ashamed of themselves. That anyone would be allowed to owe over $50k for years on end while you are busy cutting off power for people who are late or need to split a payment is reprehensible and criminal. That fancy building is beautiful on the outside, but sure does seem to be hiding a Peyton Place of deceitful behavior. Sadly, employees are afraid to speak up and say anything because of retaliation. It makes me sick. Electricity/power is something that every one needs and for them to take advantage of that to continually raise rates and threaten and cut off and pull meters is just sickening. I am aware that they are business just like everyone else and that everyone should pay for a service that they receive. That being said, to let some one ride and not pay just because they are on the board is wrong and criminal.

What Akins and the board should do is resign. And as members we should be more active in the BRMEMC dealing.
