In todays paper Lamar announced that he was going to put the SPLOST 4 up for vote in November. The current one ends in March 2015. He said he would have a presentation of new projects in the next couple of weeks.

I need help from someone in the community to help put together a NO!!!!! to SPLOST Presentation for any more SPLOST in Union County. I need someone that can take the old videos of the last SPLOST and help put all the information together of what Lamar said he would do with the money and what he really did with the money and how much was spent on each project.

The main thing Lamar did was the bait and switch he did to the voters with the Community Center. This project was presented to the voters as a cost of $3 MILLION dollars.

Why was it switched to a Revenue Bond at a cost of over 5 MILLION dollars and OVER 3 MILLION interest at a TOTAL COST to the tax payers of $8,149,878.

Wait .....that's not all the money he has spent on the Community Center, He has spent another $933,143 out of the SPLOST money BESIDES the over $8 MILLION DOLLARS on the Community Center. In 2012 he spent $303,978 alone. What was that for?????

What about the $150,000 that was to be spent on the Horse Arena Improvements?

That turned into over $750,000.

What about the $750,000 that was to be spent on the Farmers Market, Cannery and Arena?

That is now in to over a Million and still spending.

The list goes on and on and on.

So far the County has SPENT $12,053,247 on the SPLOST 3 Projects

The County has COLLECTED as of Dec. 2012 $12,265,656

He is spending as fast as he is collecting instead of saving up and paying of the Revenue and General Obligation Debt he owes for borrowing the money.

THE SPLOST 2 the County collected a total of $16,766,046.

THE COUNTY SPENT $18,147,995

HOW DID THE COUNTY MAKE UP THE $1,371,949 DEFICIT???????

This SPLOST the PUBLIC DESERVES THE TRUTH!

When does his spending STOP?????

WHEN WE STOP VOTING ON IT!!!!!!!

Please contact me at unioncountytipline@gmail.com and let me know what you can do.

Donations can be given at Cadence Bank next to BiLo account in the name of Advocates for Clean and Open Government

What years SPLOST are your officials spending today. I attended a meeting in another county regarding SPLOST expenditures and they are currently spending what they HOPE to collect in 2014.

HOPE is a very BIG word..

Just wondering???

That's the problem with the people running the counties and nation. That is why we are in so much debt. They SPEND BEFORE they receive. Lamar told the county in the last SPLOST election (SPLOST 3) that the County planned on receiving 31.5 million. With our current collections this county will be lucky to get 19 million. He keeps on spending like we are getting the 31.5 million.

A RESPONSIBLE Commissioner would be looking at paying off the current county debts and saved up BEFORE he started any more projects.

I have been doing some research on this. Data from Counties had their SPLOST FUNDS. People think its just a penny because its said one Percent.. that does NOT equal a penny..

That's the big hurdle. the education on what one percent equates to for the people..

one should never vote a tax on themselves..

Guess we need another horse arena or Lamar's friends need to unload a little more worthless land. Well seems everything is going the same as usual in good ole Union County.

I will vote NO! These SPLOSTS HURT retired people. I have a small pension and SS; the 1% comes out of that. I calculate 1% tax can be from 200 to 600 dollars a year a local resident pays. This hurts retired folks on limited income as well as unemployed and poor folks. Lamar is just a tax and spend Democrat, gimme, gimme, gimme.

He already has his BACK UP PLAN.

NGN 7/31/2013

The early ballot for SPLOST IV allows time to put the MEASURE BACK ON BALLOT IN TWO YEARS IF THERE IS A NEGATIVE VOTE with only minimal lapse in sales tax collections.

Do you see a de ja vu???

Remember the alcohol vote?

Do you remember the Commissioner tampering with the voting machine?

You are so correct!

Union County Audit 2012 pg 11

The total cost of all Proprietary activities this year was $868,126 for the Golf Course and $1,327,364 for Meeks Park, the amounts paid by users of the system were $750,074 and $362,935 respectively. This resulted in a net cost to operate of $118,052 and 964,429.

This should be a rude awaking Union County Tax Payers.

I think it was last weeks paper where Lamar said they were working on building more trails in Meeks Park (On the million dollar property that backs his personal property).

The last time I pulled the bills paid out for the trails which was a couple of years ago the county had already spent over $130,000 on the trails. SPEND, SPEND, SPEND

The last property Lamar at the Farmers Market it took over 1300 loads of fill dirt to raise the property. What will this next land purchase cost the taxpayers that he purchased once again in the flood zone for a parking lot?

Not only are land purchases tied to friends but so is all the contracting work that goes out on these projects.

The rich get richer the poor get poorer.

Stand up Union County and make YOUR VOTE COUNT!!!!

Vote NO!!!! to any more SPLOST

We have one advantage to stop his request for a continuation of the one cent tax. First of all it isnít a continuation, Itís a brand new tax. Thatís why its called number four. The last time it was voted in, it was a special election. These special elections give the politician the big advantage because the voters are lazy and wonít show up. Lamar knows this and plenty of the chosen were called out to vote it in. This time he is worried it will fail because itís going to be presented during the general election.

The reason it will fail is because the cronies and trough feeders will be overwhelmed by the intelligent citizens that are going to vote trying to get our country back on a sane path again. Lamar hasnít even started some of the projects we were promised in III and the ones he did, cost five times what he estimated. Call it a community center if you want but what irks me is building another gym rock throwing distance from one that the school board spent 3 million building for a small community like Suches.

He is creating work all right, but why is it that the same contractors always seem to get the majority of the work? Why does he always give some lame excuse why he doesnít put these jobs out for bid?

You know if it is passed during the general elections you will be guaranteeing it for eight years. I for one could stand some tax relief and let the county breathe a little. Havenít we borrowed enough in these skimpy times?

THE SPLOST 2 the County collected a total of $16,766,046.

THE COUNTY SPENT $18,147,995

HOW DID THE COUNTY MAKE UP THE $1,371,949 DEFICIT???????

I failed to mention the 5 MILLION DOLLAR General Bond that the County took out to start the projects BEFORE the Splost 3 Collections started.

Could have been where the deficit money came from to pay off SPLOST 2 projects even though it is illegal to co mingle SPLOST Funds.

On February 25, 2009 the county issued general obligation bonds of $5,000,000 to finance various SPLOST 3 projects. Bond issuance cost totaling $98,372 are being amortized over seventy -two months.

Up date on the cost of the Revenue Bond for the Community Center. Total Cost $8,307,869.

That is $3,202,869 just for the interest.

Between the two loans that the Commissioner took out the tax payers get to pay $3,301,241.

Kiss that over 3 million dollars down the drain. That's over a years worth of SPLOST money.

WHY?????

Because your commissioner could not wait until the SPLOST money came in to start building the so very important projects.

Don't forget the FIRST THING he did was spend a MILLION DOLLARS on the Meeks Park Property.
I will vote for it

While we bash SPLOST, perhaps we all need to look into the people in Union County as well as every other co. in Ga. who get the 501(C)3 for "religious purposes" (i.e. missionary sabbatical). Once it is obtained from the Feds, there is no oversite. One in Union is valued at $600,000 and they pay NO tax and haven't for over 20 years. Check Towns and Fannin for the same form of theft. Maybe we need to get on our representative to get something done in the legislature.

County SPLOST Project Priorities and Inclusion of Municipal Projects

For the purposes of the SPLOST statute, certain projects that are for the use and benefit of the citizens of the entire county are designated "county-wide projects," and these are subdivided into Level 1 and Level 2 projects. A "Level 1 Project" is a project of the county to carry out functions on behalf of the State and may consist only of a county courthouse; a county administrative building primarily for county constitutional officers or elected officials; a county or regional jail, correctional institution, or other detention facility; a county health department facility; or any combination of such projects.

A "Level 2 Project" is a project of the county or one or more municipalities, other than a Level 1 Project, which project is to be owned or operated or both either by the county, one or more municipalities or any combination thereof.

Do you think that the Horse Arena falls under this category 2? The county does not operate it, it is leased to the Saddle Club, they operate it?

Just asking?
