Seems like Topix has been taken over by a group of hateful, mean, mudslingers who complain about anything. Why don't we focus on the positive parts of life instead!

What do you like about Blairsville and Union County?

Would you consider calling people hateful, mean, mudslingers that complain about everything a postive step or a step in the same direction. If you want a thread of uplifting news and happiness you must start with such. I suggest you look in the mirror.

Well after six and a half years of being a part timer, I feel the local people are Blairsville's biggest value. They are sincere, honest, and go out of their way to be helpful. My mountain views are breath taking. Yes Blsirsville has it's faults like any small town but overall a real treasure. The local women are stunning and kind.

I love the outdoors so because Union County is nearly half National Forest I am never far from what I love. I think the schools are fairly decent and my grandchildren seem to be getting a decent education. I love the fact that we have some box stores so I don't have to drive to far to get most everything I need on a day to day basis. I love seeing wild game such as turkeys, eagles, cranes, deer and such throughout the County. I love that I have to drive some distance to get to a large airport because by the time they fly overhead I seldom hear them. I love being able to look at the night sky and see stars without artifical light weakening the view. I love to go to flea markets and auctions and mingle with the other people in attendance. I like to fish and we havea beautifullake especially since TVA stopped drawing it down like it did in the past. I like hunting for mushrooms, ginseng, and ramps when I walk in the woods. I enjoy riding my motorcycle on the roads in the area because they are fun and usually there isn't a lot of traffic. I have met some wonderful people both local and new residents in this area. I enjoy hiking with my wife and dog on the numerous trails in the County and surrounding area. I like being able to get fresh honey from local bee keepers. I like to see happy smiles on the tourists that visit this area on vacation because it reinforces my decision 20 years ago to move here. There are things I would like to see change but that is true for everyone everywhere. So Mr. Clean here are some of the things I like about Union County. Will I continue to speak my mind about the things I think are wrong? Yes, but on another thread! Have a nice day to everyone that takes the time to read this post.

Well, it didn't take too long for the "hateful, mean, mudslingers" to chime in here, did it?

I like Blairsville, similar to my hometown growing up.
Our town square was about 3 times as large as Blairsville with a small park in the middle with benches, a Confederate soldier on a big horse in the center of the park.

The local police had a small 5' X 5' shack on the edge of the park in the center of the square to go to and get out of the rain.
A movie theatre on the square on one corner and a barbershop with a pool hall on the opposite corner.

Teens in cars would go around and around the square all night long because the local police would not let them hang around outside their cars.(similar to Blairsville today)

One of the high points was when the biggest cruisers would head out of town,(car leaning to the right because of the weak springs from many circles around the square) they would get a couple blocks off the square, pull the plugs off the manifolds and step on the gas. Drove the local cop crazy. We only had one city cop and he didn't have a car, no gun, and only a billy club. Never had to use the billy club as he was like 6' 10" tall.

He would use the local Sheriff's dept to chase the dragsters and speeders.

I live here because it's like my hometown; small, friendly, not congested, and beautiful surroundings. As for Lakenotalake, it's great in the summer.

I love Blairsville and the surrounding areas.
Scenery, waterways, food, people, fresh air, few ordinances and restrictions, room to move around, a sense of freedom, pretty and well-kept downtown area, and improvements to our area make day-to-day living so much more fun. Great golf courses around North Georgia, too. Fishing is terrific. Boating can't be beat. Perfect places to hike. Waterfalls and camp grounds that are a piece of heaven.

As stated by someone who doesn't live here, has never lived here, and only found out about it by accident. Sure, we can trust your commentary.

I, on the other hand, grew up and live in the best city and county in the state. Beautiful scenery, fantastic parks, friendly people, great schools, and reasonably close to Atlanta or Chattanooga.

You should come visit my county some time. You and the goat lady will have to take your blinders off first though.

The crushing county debt driven by a fiscally irresponsible county leadership?
The overdeveloped mountainside land raping?
A "Community" Bank that follows an aggressive foreclosure policy, driving families out on the street and collapsing local land values?
A local economy driven by the privileged few that swill at the public trough?
Property Taxation that favors the select few?
A District Attorney that doesn't investigate certain crimes - except around election time?
A police department that is continually plagued with allegations of corruption and alcoholism?
And the newspaper... well, can't even say Blairsville has a real newspaper.
Take your pick. Which of those is your favorite thing about Blairsville?
Say, who are these "priveleged few" who drive the local economy?? I can't seem to find them.

It seems to me that the county is made up of hundreds of small business who drive the economy here. Even when it comes to the banks, there's not just one anymore, he ck, I count at least five of them in the county.

Seems to me that "The Mountain Fool" (Mountain Blow Hard would be a better name) doesn't know what he is talking about.

As for the "crushing county debt", well, is it? Is our county in a terrible debt situation? Maybe some unbiased research is needed here. I doubt I will trust his holiness, The Mountain Voice on this one.

Why are you interested in women skinny dipping at your age?
Sex for you is like playing pool with a rope.

I should have known that the negative posters on Topix would jump in and contaminate this thread also. What a shame. It's embarrasing to me that their vengeance and vindictiveness is so strong that they can not see any good in our community. Truly, it is a sad commentary on life.

I only call it as I see it. And many other people seem to notice the many negative and hurtful posts that continue to show up here on Topix. Can't you just, for once, say something positive? It really isn't that hard, you know.
