Well here comes a raise in taxes again. Funny that the4y would vote on it rather than wait on the new members of the board.

The School System sucks in money like a Dyson. This guy makes plenty. What work can he do anyway, with only one HS, MS and GS?

I'm glad he's willing to work with Union County schools two more years. From what I've seen, he has done more work and more good for the students and schools than the last three superintendents combined.

He needs no pay raise. He has full retirement plus this salary, doesn't he?

He wants a pay raise? How many positions has he 'retired' since he had been employed with our system? Do not try to attribute these lay offs to necessity or anyone having to do with the "good ole boys" system. The majority of those are still comfortably filled. He has "let go" of and "forced" into retirement some of our most valuable educators. He deserves a pink slip and nothing more. Not to mention the fact that our children are ending their summer break on August 1st. Our teachers are returning to work on July 17th. Before anyone says anything about teachers having summers "off" think about all of the hours they spend planning for your children's return and the un-clocked hours they put into your children throughout the school year.

OMG! NONE of them needs a pay raise!!! OUR taxes are ALREADY 2/3's of everything! AND we don't get to VOTE on it as the BOE VOTES it in. SO UNFAIR!!! SENIORS are living on a small fixed income compared to their $100K + salaries + paid insurances and other benefits!!! SENIORS should NOT have to pay into taxes for this since they only have $20K a year coming in!!!

He could: Charge a "TAX" to the parents who drop off/pick up their little "babies" - who don't use the school taxpayer buss, charge a fee-tax to those who WON'T use the school computers to do their homework on - charge a tax/fee to parents to use the grounds for sports and charge a fee-tax for all those $500 IPhones they are using on school grounds. They don't pay attention in classes and all their little heads are bent down over those expensive IPHONES CONSTANTLY! AND slipping out early from classes not only for trouble but headed to "PRIVATE" golf lessons with someone called Bill???? Charge a fee/tax for leaving early, non-use of school facilities, non-use of school times, yeah, I think the school could probably benefit from all of the above!!! I'm sure there could be other ways too.

I hope that you really are a "retired" teacher. How many errors are in your post?

It's probably because the parents need a child sitter.

The school system should not be used for babysitting or childcare services for parents. Parents need to be responsible for their children and realize school is for learning, not childcare. Schools shouldn't bend over backyards for parents who don't plan for summers and time off for holidays, etc.

You're exactly right. All business should shut down at the close of the school year. So that parents can plan to be home all summer long. We don't need open banks, grocery stores or any personal income at all during summer months.

Really? No one said that parents should depend on the school for child care. I think someone was simply being a smart ass. I do not know why anyone would vote in favor of school starting back so early, but I highly doubt it had anything to do with childcare.

The schools will take a "fall" break about a month after they are back from summer--they start and stop so much it is a wonder they know when to attend class. The summer has gotten taken away by so many in service days--fall break--spring break--and other crap to where there is little summer time off.

Steppe needs to go back to Stephens county.

State legislature is going to have to set some guidelines for when to be in and out of school.

The US Dept of Education is pushing year-round schools. It says that parents' main concern is finding childcare during the summer is one reason to go to year-round schools. I think there's a more sinister motive. Since Dewey and other Socialists took over the education departments in colleges, one of the prime motives is to get the kids out of the family environment because, they say, kids learn and retain "bad" things from their parents. Why do you think all these Communists countries take the kids away from their homes early? Look at what the Federal government's doing -- getting kids earlier and earlier into public schools, keeping them later and later in the day, and also doing things with them on the weekends under the guise of "feeding them.'

I agree. Instead of families being together on Sundays and going to church they are sitting out in a ball field some where. It seems that sports have taken over and is more important than a education and church.

I am sure some will say families are together on a ball field. No! What it is doing is taking away the SABBATH DAY and children spending time studying for a education.

The school systems help perpetuate it too. The district I used to work for allows high school students to use cell phones in class. Supposedly, they are only allowed to use them for research, notes, and homework. However, there is no way to police it, and the students take advantage of using their phones for all sorts of social activities during class time. I know this FOR A FACT!!!!!!.

Here come the idiots!
