Why? and for what reason are your goals set at changing the Singularity of the hill people?

Good question. I've wondered the same.

Vindictive. Sense of false superiority when in fact they are greedy and disrespectful.

One of the things that blows my mind is the half-timers who show up with a HUGE RV, two vehicles, boats, motor cycles, jet skis, and the rest of the crap that they seldom use while they are here. Most only socialize with their own kind and have no clue what the mountain people are really like.

They call the cops on their neighbors and want to turn their streets into the 'burbs.

Singularity is an era in which our intelligence will become increasingly nonbiological and trillions of times more powerful than it is today—the dawning of a new civilization that will enable us to transcend our biological limitations and amplify our creativity, and technologies of visionaries examining the confluence of accelerating revolutions that will shape the future and the inside story on new technological and social realities from the pioneers.

Hi Pok, our goals are easy to understand, enjoy your mountains, your lifestyle, and the local residents. Why? Because it is like being back home in the coal region of the Pennsylvania Appalachians. The area, the atmosphere, the people. Change the hill people, never, we feel comfortable talking to, going out with, and just being with the hill people. We "socialize" with friends from Blairsville, Blue Ridge and Mineral Springs. You call the residents hill people, we are called coal crackers and PA Ridge Runners, always will be and proud of it.
We live in Florida now, don't consider ourselves true Floridians, moved here from PA at the request of NASA and our company to return Shuttle to Flight after the Challenger accident.
We stay here because of three sons, their wives, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Ain't no way Grandma is moving!
We know what your asking and really don't have an answer to your question.
Hope everyone up there takes care in this cold weather.

I have been spending a lot more time in DC than I really want, in fact I'm going back tomorrow the Omnibus Spending Bills are due for vote next Tuesday and the Debt Ceiling issue has to be resolved by February 7. Between flying back and forth to DC and the Holiday activity have not been on the computer for personal use.
I did take a break over Thanksgiving to go home to PA for Buck season, 6 point about 130lbs and enjoyed my share of Esso with some old hunting buddies.
All is well and we keep pluggin' along day to day. Hope you and your family have a Happy and Healthy New Year!

I have been giving a lot of time to my Grandkid and our horses. She is riding in Wellington most weekends for completion. When she goes off to college then we all move up full time. Nothing changed, still come up to Blairsville every month,,wife's knees being replaced slowed visits down. Now we are back on schedule.

You're the kind of Floridian we need more of...people sound enough to know what a blessing Union County is! Good luck at Wellington. Great golf course there, too. Like your area. I could WPB right about now. Dinner at Flagler's Steak House.

Hi
Hope you guys don't mind me making a post in here. I usually post on the Blueridge forum...For some reason this poped up when I was logging in.
We are moving there in 2 weeks. Im super excited about it too.
For us, we have family there and friends. Ive only been in FL for 2 years, and I find the weather unbearable, even though I come from a hot climate. This is also a very transient state , people come and go. In south FL, I find many people pretty shallow. But for ever person like that Ive meet, Ive meet other really lovely people, who are not stuck up and starting botox at 26! OMG!

I grew up in a really small town, 500. I enjoy small town living and privacy lol. We are not part of the crowd with boats and big trucks. Just every day, run of the mill types..
Im looking forward to mountain living, and getting to know some locals, and hopefully learning from them, as they know a lot more about life there than I do.:)

Hi Bearsway.. I thought of you recently. A few of us from the Blue Ridge board meet for lunch last time I was in town...LaFort fan, local Observer, SoGal and two other not so frequent posters. I remember you and your wife live close to me in SF, so was hoping you were up there for the week and could have come too :)

Not tried it yet, but will. I ate at Harvest on main, last visit, it was really nice. I wasn't paying so had have no idea of the pricing, but the scollops were to die for!
