If he did, there may be other factors than just "free" money from U.S. taxpayers. It may take time to take care of the bomb dog which takes time away from day-to-day operations. I have no idea.

The dog is given to local agencies, along with a vehicle, thru a partial federal grant. Some of the strings attached include the dog and the handler being available to go anywhere, anytime the Feds direct it to go. The local agency (local taxpayers) is on the hook for paying the handler's salary, his continuing training, his benefits, gas for the vehicle and upkeep and maintainance of the dog. So the rarely used bomb dog soon becomes nothing but an expense. To me, a bomb dog is more of a toy than something useful to an agency the size of UCSO.

What will happen to all the county gear that was issued to the guys that are leaving? Will they get to keep their bullet proof vests, handcuffs, guns, pepper spray, etc. for future jobs with other agencies, or will it be given to new guys coming onto the Union County force? I guess that it is purchased with tax payers money and I got to thinking that would be quite a bit of money to lose if they keep it.

Let them pawn all the super hero gear.
I got a feeling they will not need it at next job.

Several will never have another LE job.

Still wondering how you go from being a jailer/ ditch digger to investigator?

Who are you talking about? And why are you so against CJ? He worked sex crimes and child abuse cases. He and the other investigators had the highest clearance rate in all of north GA. Sounds like you have a beef with him because he caught you.

Just a shame that good, hard working people in the UCSO and the jail were fired despite what Mack said in the paper about sitting down with each and reviewing their records. The man hasn't taken office yet and he has already gone back on his word. And I really don't care what some on here say, not all the deputies were corrupt. My personal dealings with the department were always met with professionalism and handled within a timely manner. From the girl in the front to the investigator in the back, I was treated well and had all my questions answered. Just a crying shame to think that I might not be treated the same next time I have to deal with UCSO with matters concerning my crappy neighbor.

I know what you mean about crappy neighbors. I put my farm in the conservation program and my neighbors complain. Just because it's in the middle of a subdivision and I prohibited them from turning theirs into farms doesn't mean they have a right to complain about mine. I would move somewhere else but I'm afraid I would have to pay property taxes and I can't afford it. The cheapskate citizens of Union County just will not pay me what I'm worth. Maybe I will retract that statement. I could not be worth what they do pay me. Boy I dread the Mason fella taking office. he is going to be a pain in my rear. I'm smarter than him so I can handle it.

From what you have said and think you would think I am a crappy neighbor too.

The UCSO was a joke. Just watch where the dismissed deputies get hired again.

I think we should run on less deputies. The whole department should/could be run on less folks. They did not have anybody working. They were all just riding the clock. No one could run a business like it was being run.

Trim it all down, that is what I have had to do to my business and most everyone I know has done the same.

Too much for too long.

Fire dept needs to be next.

Dark windows on an emergency SUV? Give me a break.

Need to get the fat ass out of the fire dept.

I would love to see that bunch work at real world jobs.....

I gotta hand it to the Blairsville Police dept. for they can do their job very well and they don't need window tint. The animal control officer has window tint. Why? Fire dept and other county vehicles with window tint. Why? That's a waste of money, cause that crap is expensive. Could it because the guy that tints the windows has a mom that works in the commissioner's office. Soo, mom gets it all approved. It must be nice to have family in high places

I can not figure why everyone is getting on here and bashing everyone in public safety. We have a lot of good deputies, policemen, and fire fighters. I'm sure they would appreciate y'all finding something nice to say about all the good ones instead of bashing the whole bunch. I don't know about the window tinting on the fire departmet vehicles, but I'm sure if your house were burning or if you needed rescuing from a bad wreck or some other accident, these guys would be the first ones you would call. Why? Because you know they can do the job, and do it right!! Please, start thanking these guys instead of tearing them down! If the recent terrible shooting had been at our school, you would be on here calling them "your hero". Why? Because these guys would have done the same thing those departments did in CT and also 911. Unless you have walked a mile in their shoes, you have no idea the sacrifices they all make everyday. I pray nothing like that ever happens in our town, but if it does, we certainly have plenty of heroes right here!!
