Gonna hear all kinds of negative feedback, but here goes...
The 32 of the 39 deputies who threatened to resign, should do so at once!!! Why? They work for US, the citizens of Union County. Regardless who is the Sheriff, they have been hired with the public's trust to protect and serve us, not try to strong arm, bully, and try to scare the citizens of the county into voting for the incumbent. By signing that paper, they have in essence said to us, the tax payers, that their duty is to use gorilla tactics to force their will upon the greater population. Several people, myself included, had intended to vote for the outgoing sheriff (all faults considered, he is a man with a great heart, and comes from a family full of honest, amazing people) until this letter appeared in the paper. That alone changed my mind. When we allow the ones who are suppose to safeguard the honest people to openly say they refuse to work for who we trust to lead them, they are saying that they know better than we do what we things is best for the county. Before anybody sees this as a personal attack, it is far from that. Bottom line, if you can't uphold the oath of office, and publicly make it known, then OUR SAFETY isn't your main concern, AND THE PEOPLE OF UNION COUNTY DESERVE THAT!!!!! P.S., I HAVE YET TO SEE ANY OF THESE 32 MEN IN UNIFORM PRINT AN APOLOGY TO THE PEOPLE WHO PAY THEIR SALARY, AS WELL AS THEY ALL SHOULD!!!!!!!!!

While I agree it was very unprofessional and not well thought out for those deputies to place the ad in the paper, I will say who better would know the demeanor and heart of a person better than those who have worked for him? I've always been of the opinion that a pretty good indicator of character is how you treat your employees/inferiors. If he had the overwhelming majority of those who work for him put their name and career on the line, I have to think maybe he's done something right.

I can't help but feel bad for the deputies who put their name on the line, but they shot their own selves in the foot. Even if they choose not to resign, I highly doubt the new sheriff is going to keep them around after their blatant show of disloyalty. After hearing of some of the guys Mack is rumored to be bringing in, I'm thinking a lot of people are going to find theirselves saying "maybe Scott wasn't so bad after all."

I was going to vote for Scott like I have for the past 8 years until I saw what them 32 deputies wrote and signed in the paper. It was disgusting and unprofessional. That just showed me we needed a change. So I voted for Mack. So Scott you can thank your ex-deputies for losing my vote. And from talk around town and the county. I was not the only one that felt this way.

So, these men and women stand up for someone they believe in and they lost your vote? Sounds to me like we need more of these type people in the world. And their letter was worse than the mudslinging that Mack did week after week and day after day? I don't think so! You weren't for Scott in the first place if a letter changed your mind. Those deputies have my upmost respect and so does Scott. I am proud of all of them. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything..just like the Mack supporters did! That's my opinion!

Mudslinging week after week?

Thoroughly documented EVERYTHING that happened....MOST furnished by the present officeholder, and NOTHING was ever challenged. NOTHING at all.
If it was untrue....why did the Sheriff or BGI furnish it?
If it was untrue....why not deny it...and explain it?
Mudslinging?

It has nothing to do with who is in office,in case you missed that. They are here for US, not HIM.....wake up, you buy into what you are fed way to much. I personally know and respect 90% of the outgoing official's family, but the ad was going way to far. Scott is a great man, my utmost respect to him.....but as I have been told, alot of those 32 have contacted the new sheriff and said they were threatened into signing it. If that is the case in fact, they either knew something we didn't,or were riding both side of the fences. Either way, Our Great County deserves BETTER

I am very positive MACK reads this.....it would be a great starting point in his promise to have an honest and open Sheriff's office to have an honest answer on how he plans on handling the officers who violated state and federal laws, as well as the trust on the public they swore to protect

For the record, I'm very happy Mack won. Tired of the preferential treatment some families of this town get because of last names.

It is a great day that we have at least started to clean up Union County. The movement should not stop now but continue to the City of Blairsville election next year and the regular election in two years which include Jeff Langley and our worthless Attorney General.

I would hope that Mack starts with a clean slate, let all of the deputies reapply for their positions, as would anyone interested/qualified. Facts should be the weight factor in the decisions on who fills the seats of the patrol cars. Every barrel has a bad apple or two. They usually find their way out, the rest need a gentle nudge

Good post, I fear many of these clueless people are going to regret their vote in the coming four years just as many Obama supporters did. I think a huge mistake was made but maybe he'll prove me wrong. For the sake of our county, I hope so. Just for the record, I'd love to see how many funerals Mr. Mason shows up for now that he's won the election. He certainly didn't miss any prior to the election, too many captive people to campaing to.

You can talk all you want but the facts are that if any of the deputies fail to resign and are kicked out of office, the county has to pay for their unemplyment salaries. I dont care which way it goes, but you are ignorant of the facts when you say fire everyone.

I've said this all along. If I was a young deputy, I would never resign. I'd try to just do the job, and if I got fired because I was a loyal Scott supporter, so be it. And this may very well happen. Then I would ride unemployment as much and as long as I could while looking for another job...
