I thought this county has come a long way concerning retribution through politics. It seems that it has raised it's ugly head in SO. The Sheriff refuses to meet with the school superintendent because a former deputy was hired.

How freakin petty.

Maybe if -“the Union County Commissioner don't like him, the D. A. don't like him and the Superintendent don't like him”- that just could be another reason all of us ... who Voted for a New and More Responsive Leadership in Union County and chose to support the New Sheriff and then elected him to Office, to like him.

You see we were looking for and are satisfied that we needed, and it appears we are getting ... a professional Law Enforcement Agency.

One that is rebuilding trust and confidence previously lost, providing the efficiency and ability to address a criminal element in this community not only at the lowest levels found, but if necessary, to an extent some us fear could be at higher levels within which heretofore no one has had the intestinal fortitude to approach nor act upon.

Thus, I can't help but believe that many, such as I, are happy that the Sheriff isn't interested in anyone's self imposed "beauty/personality" contest with those "other officials" you suggested he, or we, should be concerned about "liking him."

I suggest it could just be "they" that ARE the problem.

After all, never yet have I seen a jackal "like" its pursuer.

By now most folks who have read any of your postings, I’m sure recognize a consistency in the portentous self-serving nature of those postings.

Many in these parts, are aware of the localized privileged contemptuous power structures, most commonly immune to challenge, who rule supreme over the unsuspecting and powerless within small communities such as ours.

We also recognize, those cronies, who work within those power structures. Over time people die off, misappropriations, corruption, or just plan ole incompetence, and inefficiency is exposed. And wa-la, now what’s left of the power structure begins to panic as we elect more competent, and responsive leadership.

Then people like you turn up. Cronies, with blind loyalty, ready to defend what’s left of the old gravy train and broken down machine. The malicious condemnation of those Newly Elected Leaders and the things that may be in the best interests of the community, without any pause for considerations in allowing for reasonable time frames to adjudge any benefit, or lack thereof for our community.

If anyone runs against Langley he will be history and then all we have to worry about is the ole crook and a joke that is hired instead of elected. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Can't you.

As a Mason supporter, you are in the dark like the rest. You talk about responsive leadership, why would you want someone who lies? He told you, he would fire everyone, which he didn't, and most of them quit because of the newly elected leaders. He also said that he would not hire anyone out of the county. Most of them are from Florida. He also said that no one would drive vehicles out of the county, which they are. He also said, patrol vehicles need to be updated periodically and systematically... LIE! He also said why does it take so many cars and personnel on a single traffic stop, minor wreck, or other routine matters... LIE! Its the same or worse. He says, I don't think Union County has this many mean and dangerous people to require this much law enforcement response. But it took 10 Mason deputies, 4 GSP, and 1 chopper to look for an armed man that they couldn't find and left it the woods.

Another lie, he said that we had the first blood hound for Union Co, that's a lie.. What was Scout, a poodle? He also said that we have no budget for a patrol boat, and that's a lie because Sheriff Stephens paid for fuel with drug money and the slip at Nottely Marina was free. So why do we not have a budget for marine control now? He says in his campaign that the UCSO was over budget, check it now under his administration with 42 deputies and 12 new cars.

I will gladly be available to come to a town meeting with you and idiot Mason, to discuss what he is making a mess out of, of my county.

Mason doesn't seem to be afraid to show up and discuss any subject unlike his predecessor so I would imagine if you give the time and place he would most likely be there. I know I would like to hear for myself when he makes a fool of you.

Your credibility took a hit right there. What if they came from Florida 20 yrs ago and live her permanently? Are they "out of the county?"

Well in America being from here is not a requirement for employment.
We already have to much of the good old boy mentality.

Yes indeed, that was the problem. The whole sheriff's department was one big clique and they had an us-versus-everybody else mentality. That's the kind of environment that allows bad cops to thrive. That's the kind of environment that makes deputies think they can drive by a house and shoot it up. That's the kind of environment that makes a sheriff think he can hide evidence from the GBI. So I'm happy our local deputy clique is broken up and gone because I think we barely managed to avoid the kind of problems Towns County had.
