We are thinking about moving to Danville Va. we are tired of the big city atmosphere and all that goes with it (crime, traffic, etc.,) but enjoy all the things to do.

Please tell us the who, what, when, where, why's of Danville Va. We have visited the college area downtown and zeroed in on a home there.

now tell us about your town

What's sizzlin'?
Danville's a decent place to live if you're trying to escape the life of a big city. We've got things to do, such as bars, restaurants, a 12-movie theater, shopping (Wal-Mart, Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, Old Navy, Etc.) and we're central to often-traveled places such as Roanoke, VA, Greensboro, NC, Lynchburg, VA, and others. In Pittsylvania County, there's a yearly fair, and several times a year they'll have different attractions such as rodeos. Also, in the last few years they built a venue for bands to play, our last band was Lynard Skynard, and we've also had Hootie and the Blowfish and several well known country music stars.
All in all, it's not bad. With a population of 40,000-50,000, it's going to be new to you, and if smaller is what you're looking for, then Danville MAY just be something you're interested in.

There is nothing in Danville, with the exception of retail.
There are no jobs to support the retail...and no help for those in any kind of need...and nothing to do...except to go out to eat, shop, go to a movie or go to church or a hotel/motel......so if you like bad economy,a rising crime rate and nothing to do....DANVILLE IS AN AWESOME PLACE!
We moved to Roanoke,Va. becasue you can find any and everything here and it is not too big....just bigger.

I was born in Danville. Moved away in my 20's. OMG!how it's changed for the worse. Coming back home to visit I can see the deteriation. The economy situation or crime won't improve until major positive changes are made. Folks deserve a much safer place to live.

I from Kentucky and we moved to Danville 16 years ago..I miss Kentucky, I hope someday to move back home..People are different here, I have no friends here. It feels like people here don't want to be friends..believe me I have tryed..about how many people are here:

Danville gained 174 people from 2007 to 2008 to a population of 45,152 residents, and Pittsylvania County gained 925 residents and has a population of 62,253.

Its a big city to me, I was from a small town in Ky. about 1/3 of Danville..We do have shopping, movies, churches,we just got Old Navy,Home Depot,Dicks sports,Ross,etc..but there is no jobs..theres not a lot to do around here, but its ok..I have my family here and my Parents are in Ky..So i stay homesick..

I left Danville long ago. I went to school there from Grove Park to Gibson then OT Bonner and GW. I have to say that I'm glad that I left. Danville is full of drug addicts, theives and liars. There is nothing in Danville worth being there for. I moved to New York back in 1998 and have been back a couple of times to visit but nothing more. Each time I visited I couldn't wait to get out of there. My life as it is would not be had I stayed and I know that for sure. As far as being a good place to live? I would have to say "not in the least". Find somewhere else to live like a little further south. Pelham, NC or Reidsville are both very decent places to live and still not to far from the Danville, Va state line.

I moved from Danville to Kentucky and wouldn't trade it for the world. When I moved I was a teenager, but since I have been in Kentucky, this has became home for me. What part of Kentucky are you from?

Danville is truly, truly the pits. I have lived just north of the city (in the county) all of my life -- and it has rapidly gone down hill the last 3 years or so. Businesses are leaving. All those stores mentioned above (Dicks, Target, Old Navy) are trying to get out of their contracts and flee! The mall is dying, shopping centers are mostly empty -- There is nothing for young people to do, but get into trouble. And speaking of trouble -- the crime rate is growing -- The city leaders don't have a clue about anything. It is turning into a ghost town. As far as Dan River Mills -- it no longer exists. Goodyear isn't going to be here many more years. Brockway glass is leaving. The list would be smaller if I simply mentioned what the city does have! Gangs -- don't even get me started on that. They are migrating from Greensboro by the carload.

The motto of Danville is "city of churches"(plural)That ought to describe it for you in a nutshell. There is a church on every corner and each one has there own personal doctrine which contradicts the bible, but it seems like that is what people in Danville like. It is a town of full of hypocrites. A town full of division. A town destined to fall.
Yep, it's a "city of churches" but you better not bring up the subject of religion.
Danville really should change their motto to "home of hypocrites"
I am the preacher for the church of Christ (Matt.16:18; Rom.16:16) in Danville and I was fired from my job with the city schools in 2007 for discussing the bible with some of my co-workers who were asking me questions about the bible. Imagine that, "city of churches" Trying to get local preachers to discuss the bible in Danville is like pulling hens teeth. But I guess that's they way people like it here. If they pay the preacher to teach what they want to hear then they can do what they want to do and the preachers are the ones benefitting riding around in their Bentleys, Mercedes and Caddies and living in their million dollar palaces. Yep, if you love hypocrisy, division and high crime Danville is the place for you.
