I am with Troop 9 and have been a part of the camporee for as long as I have been in the troop. I enjoy spending time there, it's the last bits of green space in NJ also this is a symbolic icon of local history.

Yes during the months of july and august they still serve soup, crackers, milk, juice and whatever else they might dig up from the pantry!! Campbell's donates the soup and juice from what I understand.

I remember going there many times as a kid in the 50’s. I was a kid from the Kensington area of Philadelphia at the time. I remember taking a boat from Penn Treaty’s Pier. It was a day for the kids from the city to get a day playing at the park. We also got free soup and milk there. But, just for info. I’m now retired from the Navy and living in Florida.

Radio Ro. You’re absolutely right. But, I would think you’d have better things to do with your life then looking for misspelled words on the net. “GET A LIFE”

Grew up in Palmyra NJ....went to Soupy Island countless times as a kid in the 60's and 70's...our entire family & neighborhood used to go on weekends.....I remember riding the carousel when I finally tired of swimming....I thought it was long since closed, glad to know it's still around. I'd love to take my granddaughter there.....

I went to Walnut St. School in Woodbury during the 1960's. There was a boy in my class, 2nd or 3rd grade, who drowned at Soupy Island. I think his name was Pat Carney. Of course kids being kids, we called him Fat Pat. Im not sure where he lived, maybe one of those houses that used to be where the hospital parking is now on Red Bank. I think the family moved right after this happened.
