Cats hate travelling. If the animal shelter were really responsive to animal needs, they wouldn't do this to this poor, traumatized creature.

Shame on them for exploiting this animal!!!!! I do hope she finds a good home and remind everybody to adopt animals from shelters and not to buy them from pet stores or breeders!

I don't know why people think this is cute or funny. Obese animals suffer even more than obese humans -- they cannot understand why they are in pain and discomfort. And believe me, this cat is not comfortable. Probably has joint pain & arthritis, for starters... probably heart disease and clogged arteries too. Maybe even diabetes, if not already then soon! If the owner is found he/she should be brought up on animal cruelty charges!!

Angela and Rita are absolutely right. Cats are traumatized by traveling and being in strange surroundings. Hasn't this poor cat been through enough? It should be kept at a Humane Society until it loses a substantial amount of weight and then adopted out to a responsible person. Its owner should not be allowed to reclaim it.

Had a cat once topped off at 24 pounds. Developed diabetes and arthritis so bad he couldn't jump up on "his" chair - no one else could sit on it or he would stand there and stare at you until you got up. Vet put him on a diet and after losing only 7 pounds, was his old self again. Apparently he went on a testosterone buzz and began stalking a really big deer who was peacefully grazing in the back yard (we lived out in farm country). He looked like a lion stalking through the long grass. Then, he made a break for it, and charged the deer. Deer took off like a shot but then looked over her shoulder, saw what/who was chasing her, turned around, stomped her hooves a few time, snorted a few more times and the chase was reversed. Charlie took off like a bat (cat?) out of hell to the back door which I opened in time for his final escape. Boy was that deer pissed off!!!!! Charlie didn't go out again for a long while, and when he did, never went near the deer again. And I swear this is a true story.
