How awful to abandon the animal. She should have brought him to a shelter rather than have him fend for himself on the streets.

I agree, the woman should have turned the cat into the shelter instead of kicking him out into the streets. The story should have mentioned,if you are no longer able to care for your pets bring them to a shelter.

If someone were beating that cat, it would be considered animal abuse, and rightly so! Feeding a cat until it's over 40 lbs is animal abuse too! I'd like to see how that poor thing walks or uses the litter box (how'd you like to clean up after THAT CAT takes a dump?!).
The owner should be picketed by PETA

I don't care if your home is in foreclosuer how do you just throw your cat out of the hose and leave it to fend for itself? She should be smacked!

I feel so badly for the cat and feel that the owner should have some sort of animal abandonment charges leveled against her...

And the "publicist" who is the animal shelter director should be ashamed of herself for exploiting the cat for her own fame.....the cat should be adopted out as soon as possible and not be used to generate publicity for an adoptathon in the middle of August.

Also, for all those people who are calling about Powder, there are lots and lots of cats and dogs waiting on death row in the shelters. Call your local shelter or the Little Shelter here on Long Island to adopt a homeless animal. A home is not a home if you don't have at least one animal companion....

Finally, for all those puerile idiots who keep writing about giving the cat to the Chinese as food. Knock it off. It's not funny and your immaturity is annoying.

Do you not wonder what their homes life is all about,Bet they love to torture small non defensive animals.Real bummer, maybe they can offer shelter to the bitch that deserted a pet after ten years.and feed her to the chinese.

Real nice. There are rescues that would have taken the cat. There was no need to just abandon the poor cat. Makes me sick!
