A good "read" for anyone interested in "big government" and why our school system (others also) are in the condition they are in today. The book is entitled "Pigs At The Trough". This book can be checked out at the Ponca City library. It tells exactly how "piggish" our nation's capitalism government has become. You can also get this for your kindle.

This is an article that I just ran across

WASHINGTON (AP) American companies that move their headquarters offshore to avoid paying taxes will be the target of a new television advertisement that questions their patriotism during a time when U.S. soldiers are fighting in Iraq.
The ad contrasts images of soldiers at war with a fictional corporate executive. "In the sands of Iraq, our soldiers risk their lives for our country," says the voiceover. "At the same time, big corporations are abandoning our country and setting up phony tax shelters in the sands of Bermuda."

A group of taxpayer and citizen organizations calling itself The Bermuda Project is running the advertisements to pressure Congress to pass legislation to stop companies from moving to offshore tax havens.

In what's known as a "corporate inversion," a company sets up a shell headquarters in a tax haven such as Bermuda while keeping most operations and jobs in the United States, potentially saving millions of dollars in U.S. taxes on income from foreign sources.

The ad will run later this week in this area and in the districts of House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas. The group wants Republican leaders to bring the legislation before the House for debate.

"The message is about shared sacrifice," said columnist and author Arianna Huffington, one of the founders of The Bermuda Project. "They're really cheating America, and they're cheating every American taxpayer who plays by the rules."

Hastert spokesman John Feehery said Republican leaders plan to examine the corporate tax system to reduce companies' incentives to move overseas. "Our companies are unfairly discriminated against in U.S. taxes," he said.

First; are there 2 Blackwell Voters now???? 2nd, this is a good post and another reason ALL citizens need to wake up and start holding our Congress and other government leaders accountable. This is why I BOYCOTT WAL-MART. They have forced many American business who had contracts with them to close by demanding they lower prices on products. One was a pillow maker who had been in business for many years and had mostly Wal-mart contracts. They told him they were dropping the prices on his pillows and he said he couldn't drop his selling prices & make a profit because his labor costs. They said he could if he moved his business to China! Get educated friends. There are many American companies who are no longer American! Many have sold us down the river by justifying $5 shirts and $10 coffee makers. I, like many; am struggling. But, I refuse to be led to slaughter. BOYCOTT those who are hurting our economy by lying in bed with the Chinese(every product you can imagine), Indian(call centers anyone?), and other foreign countries making profits at the expense of unemployed Americans. And don't get it twisted; I am not a Xenophobe or a Racist. These countries and our own greedy corporations are a main part of our current recession.

Mine too! I just wrote a big spiel about our government and my concerns on big government. I wrote how it is repulsive to me concerning businesses moving overseas and leaving so many good Americans without jobs and so many foreclosures on homes, etc. It now seems the only thing {made in America} are the people born here. I do not mean to make light of this, but please, comments would be appreciated on what we, as law abiding, tax paying citizens of our beloved America, could and should do to bring back our America as we knew her long ago!! GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN, FOR WE KNOW THE TROUBLE SHE IS IN-----GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN!!

May I also say I very much appreciate not being "bashed" or name calling like in so many other threads and forums. That attitude goes nowhere and accomplishes nothing-----only wasted time, words and takes up space where someone else could be posting info that may help solve a problem, and NOT be a part of the problem-----does this seem plausible, or am I just "spitting in the wind"? HA HA We all need to live and love life while we can!! GOD BLESS ALL
