To Start with I think that all you out there have your own opinions and should feel free to use them. It is time for the change that I know we have all been waiting for so speak out and be heard. This is our town and it is time to start gettin it back.

Talking about real positive change. First off we can get the officials we have to quit going out of town to bring contracters in to refurbish when we have contractors right here in our county that could use the work. Number two we can quit bringing in immagrants to do our jobs that we are capable of doing ourselves. Considering they don't even pay taxes when they are here. We can tear down some of these building because none of them really have the Square footage a real company needs to be prosperous. Maybe the town committee Could throw like a concert to bring money into the county. There fore we can bring outsiders in for tourist to want to come in. I know some places have block parties every other weekend. Maybe even restock the lakes and ponds to get sportsmen back in here and tournament. Our police department just held a tournement in Prince Edward. That is a shame we have lakes right here in our county that could use this type of publicity. We need positive change and need it bad I know nothing changes over night but it all can change. Since the government has tooken over the farmers our farmers have quit farming and slowly selling their land little by little. This is a shame but it is happening. But yet the elderly here don't want the change but our country is over populated and people are born everyday to be put in a house. These things we can't stop unless we put population control on people and how many kids we have but that would go into messing with constitutional rights and I wouldn't want to go there. Blackstone Girl says it is 4000 people in our town I haven't checked actual population yet. But I will. Without checking I can say there isn't enough jobs here to support them. But 4000 people working together for one common goal can change a whole lot and who knows 4000 can change a world if they know 1 person different from the other. It is a chain affect that can sweep through the world. We need to start giving back to our communities, helping the sick and looking out for the elderly and young ones. So what big a difference can 4000 people make?$1 from 4000 people is $4000.00 dollars that can go to a good cause. Such as fixing up these places that need it. These farmers with the land that they have could grow fruits and Vegetables imagine how much food we could produce to help these people here and beyond. There is alot of things we can do to get aknowledged by the rest of the world and interprises want to be apart of something special. But the ones who hold office has to approve some of these changes to take place and a certain amount of publicity from our local papers to let the people know about these things. So May god bless and peace out let me know of any ideas you may have. keep me in your prayers I need them. Duncan Quick you should run no doubt. Just don't ever quit listening to the people. That is where the trouble tends to lie. You have to realize the people is who put these officials in office and are also the same ones who can change that.

Is she talking about Blackstone or Burkeville. I personally believe that younger people should run for office. I believe that term limits is a good thing. We can listen to advice of older people but if you will we need a blood transfusion. That is not against anyone but I just feel that some feel they are entitled to the office they hold and have forgotten what they ran for. Next year should be eye opening but we will see.

I know that the Chief of Police in Blackstone needs to be replaced. I feel the majestrates need to be replaced and If the Mayors can't work with the town officials and the officials can't work with the mayors than maybe we just need a whole clean sweep. And we need some young college graduates to step up in these positions. Maybe some military for cops who are more ready to uphold the law with just cause. Who can practice restraint when needed and liency as far as how bad the crime is. I am saying I know Duncan Quick would make a great Negotiator as far as Mayor and getting new enterprise in. He has proven himself as a successful businessman and a Fair person in general. He has done alot of charitable work for our community and SVCC. He is very well respected through out the community. I haven't heard one bad thing about him yet. He is one of my mentors. I also have a great deal of respect for Mr. Crawly who works with Mr. Quick and I know they both work closely with young adults. I have met some really great cops that have been ran out of crewe and blackstone that maybe ought to be brought back but as town council. I believe that CSI has a good head on his shoulders and maybe he could help. But who ever runs needs to listen to peoples ideas and give reasons for why the changes are possible or not possible. Instead of just flat out not happening. And need to bring new ideas for all. And maybe have a suggestion box where the ideas are actually taken seriously and voted on properly. This would really help our community. Have the votes held on weekends or on Sundays after Church. But where all is able to be heard. And vote on what they think is best for our community. Let me know what you think. God bless and keep me in your prayers and I do the same for all. Lets get this community back on track by putting aside our petty differences and working as a community should.

Any one who wants to run for Mayor or Commonwealth Attorney all you have to do is go to the State building in Richmond to run. And I am sure there are some real good canidates out there to make the differnce.

I believe in order to run for public office, you are required to be a citizen of that jurisdiction and you need to circulate a petition with a certain number of signatures of registered voters in that jurisdiction and file it with the registrars' office within a certain time frame in order to have your name on the ballot. Anyone interested in running for public office needs to get the requirements from the County Registrar's Office in Nottoway, not any state building in Richmond. To run for Commonwealth's Attorney, you must also be licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Get your facts straight, be informed.

Actually Blackstone Girl is correct. Let us put it this way sooner or later changes will be made in elected officials, because of age and there are newer fresher minds with better ideas. They may see which of the old ones work and improve upon that. I personally can not say anything about the Blackstone Police Chief but I do know this, he survived 911 and he decided to move here. I personally like the Mayor of Blackstone and I do know of Duncan Quick and think he would be an asset to any governing body. The Mayor of Blackstone is young as is my supervisor. So give people a chance to do things.

well now blackstone girl I have to say you sure do know your stuff. But I will also say that you say they have to sign a what a petition right. I do believe that has been said. I also want to say you check out Mayo K. Gravatt on the web thats right type out his name and you will see that it appears only county officials must have voted him in there because I know for a fact there is more than 9 voting citizens in Nottoway. Check for yourself. I have. I am always up to learning new things and I appreciate all the same the educational advice you share. But all the same it is time for those changes to occur. I believe in some of our officials. I have told you myself I have friends in those so called high places. But you know they will all tell you the same when it comes to trying to fix things and change you will get railroaded up out of here. Well guess what I am not going anywhere and I am going to keep fighting for that change. And for you to be so well roundly educated in that area of the law I still say you are married to one of those fine Officials and hope to keep the family in that circle. Well I say to that If the family is able to change things fine but if not than it is high time they do step down. I do not mean in no means to insult anyone. And again Blackstone girl I am greatly appreciating the education. I am not extremely young but I am not that old either. But I tell my boys I am not to old to learn. I tell them I have forgotten what they are learning in school and sometimes it is refreshing for them to correct me But I also tell them they still have alot they can learn from me. I feel the meaning is the same in this case. Do you see what I am saying. Hopefully you will see that times aren't what they use to be and the younger generation is much more free spirited than what they use to be and they are smarter and quicker and times are changing. I mean I know even I have to try an keep up with the times. Kids are being tought so much more earlier than what they use to. But I am told actually times tend to reverse itself. There was a time girls was getting married at 14. I mean I don't feel those times where appropiate but it happened. And even now some young girls are getting pregnant even younger. That bothers me. I can't help but to think if there was more for the youth they would get in less trouble. And Blackstone girl even you seem well rounded enough to see this too. I know I can't change how you feel or for That matter you don't want to change. But I believe in one of the earlier blogs you said you liked the city life. Well I am not saying take all the county out of Nottoway. I am saying it needs a little improvement. Nottoway has plenty of space for several improvements without taking out all the country. hmmm would that be so bad.

I do appreciate the fact that the chief did a very honorable thing with 911 my hat is off to anyone who helped with that and my condolenses to the ones who lost family. But reguardless I don't appreciate the fact that our chief of police lied or either the mayor lied one of the two either way it was stated in the local paper that I didn't care to press charges on a incident when in fact I did and when I signed a warrant I didn't get the chance to even appear before the judge to testify against my assailant. Because here in the great Nottoway you can't press charges against and idiot. Atleast that is what the commonwealths so called rep. told me. Hinse the word common. Now with that said I am sure alot of you know who I am. I will state again, I am not stopping this fight and I will see it the bitter end. I have said before I have spoken with you about these matters and I wasn't quiet then and refuse to be quiet now. I do have freedom of speech and belief and I will use them. Now that I have that being said I find it ashame that when some one pulls a blade on someone you can say that it is not with intent. Because as soon as it is pulled there is intent. And I believe that is assault with a deadly weapon, malicious wounding and attempted murder. That I was bounced from Blackstone back to Nottoway back to Blackstone back to Nottoway back to Blackstone and back to Nottoway just to try an press charges that the majestrate did not want to press and then only let me sign a warrant for assault with out intent just for it all to be dropped an I not even get a day in court for this. But when it was known for me to be upset you best believe they had a cop on every corner to wait and see if I retaliated. Because I got cut at Wal_mart as stated it just brings to much money in this county. But yet they are losing money and will probably be pulled out of nottoway if their business doesn't pick up so you see Blackstone girl I do know that if change doesn't take place than Nottoway will be a ghost town. I have worked for Wal-mart I have heard the numbers and I do know it is struggling in this community considering they were bringing employs from the distribution center just to give them work and because of our drowning economy they had to get rid of an whole shift at the distribution. So now I have given away who I am and frankly don't care. Because all I have stated is nothing but the cold harsh truth and all facts. So help me god and you better believe I will fight with every beat of my heart to see there is justice and change. Thank you sincerely. Again I do say there are some good people in office an there is some bad ones. Just remember one bad apple can spoil the bunch. As I said all that is done in dark must come to the light.

And because I got such a run around I did start takeing notes, names and Badge numbers of all who were involved. Because see as I once was a security guard I do know to keep good records of everything. I also know the oaths that we take and I believe in upholding the law to the fullest. I have never been in trouble with the law and I know that speaking out I may get some retaliation but I am looking foward to the challenges. Because I haven't broken any laws and if God is for you who can stand against you. I don't understand how Wal-mart would condone someone pulling a blade on another worker no more than I understand how the County officials can let it be said no intent. But I will say this I have been told oh Wal-mart thought horseplay would mean that workmans comp wouldn't pay. And the county figures all is said and well. I have won my workman comps case and have 2 years to file the others. I have probably said more than I should but now I will use my 5th ammendment the right to remain silent. Thought I still say you all can expect change. I won't give up on it and niether should any of you. Because I have read so much corruption on these blogs and I am fighting my own battles but hopefully those who know my story will continue to stand and learn to keep fighting for what is right. I am going to tell you all something All the worldly possessions you may ever collect all you get in the end is six foot and you can't take it with you. So the only thing you can do is hope that what you leave behing is something good people can remember you by. That is it. I am have a wonderful husband and three kids that is my world. And making the world a better place for my kids tomorrow is all that matters. So if I don't stand for what is right than who will. And what examples are we setting for our children if we don't stand for what is right.

you go guest 2 you set the examples for those kids and don't let anyone tell you that you are wrong when you know you are right. Because if you don't then it would be a pretty bad example for your kids. If that is how things went down than you are right our county is in some pretty bad shape and it is time for these changes to come about. I think it is sad that our cops and officials would rather see money than to take the correct steps to protect our community. God bless you all and keep me in your prayers.

Mayo Gravatt got 9 votes in ONE precinct; not the whole of Nottoway county. And he continues to get elected because no one is interested in running against him; not because they are scared but because there is no other lawyer who lives in Nottoway County who wants the job! A vote of 9 in one precinct shows that people don't like the candidate and they would rather vote for no one than the candidate that is running.

I am neither married to nor related to any official in Nottoway County. To my knowledge no one in either my family nor my husband's family ever held public office. I am not a college graduate; I am a product of the Nottoway County Public Schools. I have a good family and a nice home and we have worked hard for everything we have. I have worked every day since I was 20 years old and that was a helluva long time ago. My husband is now retired but he always had to commute outside of Nottoway County to work. I commute 80 miles round trip every day to work. I know the limitations of living in a small community but I also know that we are a lot better off in Blackstone than folks are in many, many other communities in this Commonwealth and in this Country.

Guest 2: Go to State Board of Elections results of the election for Commonwealth's Attorney in Nottoway County, November 6, 2007 Election Results - this was the date of the last general election in Nottoway County. There were 2312 votes for the office of Commonwealth's Attorney. Mayo K. Gravatt got 2296 votes and there were 16 write-in votes. Always be certain that you have your facts correct. And let me go on record as saying, if someone ran against Mr. Gravatt, in all likelihood I would vote for him or her but as I said in an earlier blog we don't have any other lawyers living in Nottoway County right now who want the job. As a matter of fact, there are only 5 other lawyers who actually live in Nottoway County: Ken Walden, Denis McCarthy, Chuck Beale, Jack Boswell, and Larry Williamson. The Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney and Joe Teefey both live in Chesterfield and David Nelms lives in Henrico.

Blackstone girl is right about the Petition however to get one here for a GOOD Person and not Family? You've got to be kidding? That is a joke! I know for a fact the big shots won't let that happen! If you get a petition signed with the proper signatures take it to the state office to file because you'll never get it filed here! Why do you think we keep the same dead beats in office so long? This is the reason we have not progressed in the last 50 to a 100 years! And we won't as long as family keeps running things. As for the changes that are coming! What? Another coffee shop? A swap shop? What's so big about those? How many jobs did those give? How much money will they make? Maybe a lot if it's family! Give the young folks something to keep their money here and not in Petersburg; Richmond; Farmiville etc. I know of young kids that go to Southhill to spend their money! Only Family and old folks like me are stuck here to shop! Don't have a bus route anymore; they left town too! Can't afford a taxi cab to go; So I'm stuck here to shop in these depleetinmg stores!

well again Blackstone girl so willing to correct my education. That is great and wonderful when are you willing to help really correct this community. Where are your true concerns. Facts are facts yes. You know I have not ever really been a politition of sorts. Just so you know! But I do know when there is things that are just plain wrong. And I do know a little about the laws. And I do know that the citizens have voices and I can also see when people are trying to discourage a good thing. But all your ridicule won't change things. People still have the rights to be heard. whether you or I like what is being said. It doesn't matter. You can get angry or live with it. But I am sure you will see that none of the bickering will change the thoughts of others. And what they want for the community.

I just want to say I have taken some of Blackstone girls advice and I checked out our local towns and county blogs. Let me tell you how interesting it was. For Blackstone we had a walk a thon( oh gee). then the Heritage Hall parade (how exciting). oh yeah lets not forget the Heritage Hall Senior olympics(what a way to go). Presbyterian church walk a thon (you would think that is all we had to do was walk.). Oh yeah because the projects on the board is Downtown Revitalization and a trailer park. Wow so now we are just fixing up the town for the old fogies to relive their younger days and when they finally do die out then so will our town. Way to you town officials and County planning and So much for Our Fine Industrial Development Authority. You may want to read what our lovely sites states for terms as far as for Constitutional Officers. And Now to address Crewe an Burkeville well lets see theirs was so appealing with Texas fest. coming, chicken fest.com ing, Southside youth fest. and last but not least the Burkefest. You would think all we want is to eat our lives away. Oh and don't forget the Social and Interest Organizations 1. American Legion,Oldies 2.Crewe Junior womens club another place to gossip nothing more. 3.The Crewe-Burkeville chamber of Commerce nothing bad there. Crewe-Burkeville youth Rec. Association. some sports for the children good. 5. Kiwanis I can't respond I haven't dealt with them. 6. Lions club is good to help out the community. 7. VFW well I won't ever dishonor a vet I commend all vets. But again where is the real fun for the children and young adults. You did forget to mention S&Ks for the kids but that doesn't surprise me. Now if you like I can even name you all one by one I have checked all my resources. I do believe term for Mayo is 4 years. And when you do go to these sites it will show you who serves what terms and how long. But our very own doesn't know how to follow these simple laws. It is a matter of reading and knowing them. Thanks again.

I'm not going to say anything about how Blackstone should be run today; believe it or not! Today I'm going to talk about how it was when I and most of you were growing up!
Lets go back to the 50's ok? Well; there was the wild dancing mom and dad hated and said was very vulgar! We told them to catch up with the times!
then there was the 60's! Oh I really injoyed those years. Young rebellious and I knew everything and mom and dad was over the hill. They were back in the middle ages. We had woodstock and the hippies. Long hair on the boy's and the girls. Couldn't tell what sex a person was untill you looked them in the front! I mean if they had boobs! I remember mom saying the boy's should at least try to take care of their hair better! I also remember telling mom; "Remember Christ wore a long robe and sandles and had long hair too! Is that why folks killed him?" Christ was different too. We had the twist; the pony; the jurk; the dirty jerk; and other dances our parents hated just like their parents hated when they were growing up.
What I am trying to say here is; Time does change but we do too! As you get older you seem to go back in time and fill your parents shoes. I have tried my best not to do that! Remember the big fun for Nottoway was skinny dipping at Nottoway river! Racing cars on someones farm or on an old dirt road. I remember some young boys were hurt one killed; playing chicken on 4 wheelers. The kids and young adults are no different than what you and I was growing up. We were wild; we were disobediant; and rebelious. Why don't you older folks stop and really think about how you felt growing up? Then turn on your TV and look at all those soaps you watch. Where are you any different now than back then? You watch it all on your tv! I hope as long as I live I will all ways remember how it was and try to see me through our kids! I hope I never get as old as some of you have!
