Officers test laser speed guns

Police officers took aim this week at vehicles and motorcycles zipping down a runway in Blackstone.

Why do the police need to conduct "tests" to "convince" judges and prosecutors that laser speed guns are accurate? Any engineer (or somebody with some technical knowledge) will tell you that laser "speed guns" are more accurate than radar speed guns.

True, the engineers should be showing the judges, but maybe the judges and prosecutors are curious since it is relatively new technology. I assume that the demonstrations will help the court convict speeders who say laser are a crock or shpit.

any new technology has to be accepted before it can be accepted by court of law so testing needs to take place to see if it works in the field we will have to wait and see.

I believe the point is to prove to the judges the laser speed guns are so simple to operate and idiot-proof, they don't have to worry about throwing tickets out of court because an officr made a mistake using one.

Idiot-proof is right but how do you convince the CA that CSI science is accurate. You have to know this county.
