Bacon County High School has played football since 1951 at Lions Stadium/Morris Johnson Stadium. They have never hosted a state playoff game there in all these years. That is sad. I know people in this town who have waited decades to attend such a game on our home field including me. It is hard to watch year after year as nearby high schools host these special games on a regular basis.

Tell me oh wise one, what so you feel the problem is? Surely during your 43 years there was at least one year that bchs has had the talent and/or coaching to get there. Why don't you go ahead and tell us what your beef is.

Red Raider 1970, very good point. When many of the smaller surrounding counties are hosting playoff games year after year, it makes you scratch your head and say why? In my opinion, several things are preventing Bacon County from mirroring Charlton, Clinch, Ware, Pierce, Coffee, Appling, Camden, etc. First, Bacon can't seem to land a good coach that is willing to stick around and build a program. Bobby Johns seemed to be that man, but he didn't stay long enough for the paint to dry where his name was printed on the roster. We have to have a coach that is willing to build from Pee Wee football all the way to High School. A successful program will draw kids to play. A good coach recruits kids in the halls and lets them know how much they are needed. Kids like to hear a coach brag and beg a little. Too many coaches take the approach of "take it or leave it". Second, Bacon County's parents don't encourage their kids to get involved. "Little Johnny, either you play football or go to work when you get off from school". Instead the kids parents buy him a 2014 Chevy 4x4 with 22 inch rims and a boom box system. Got to get support from the parents. Too many stud athletes standing in the end zone smoking Marlboro Lights, when they could be scoring TD's. Lastly, the community has to get behind the football program. Bobby Johns had that going for a minute. He had folks really fired up about Bacon County Football. It was exciting. Until these things change, Bacon will never host a playoff game on US 1 South.

Class of 2008, You stated "has Alma ever done anything right?" In 2004, we won the AA Baseball State Championship. As for the Football Stadium being in the projects, not anymore. The Red Raiders will be playing at their brand new Football Stadium. They Should name it "Duck Taylor" Stadium. He has done more for Bacon County football than anyone. And did it for NUTTIN.

Red Raider 1970...you don't know what you're talking about. 1992 Bacon County won Region 2AA and hosted the first round of the playoffs. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

You people can say all you want to about Alma. A lot of people like it and want to live in Alma. There maybe better places but there are also a lot worse places to live. Those of you that don't like Alma can always move. There are many good, loving, kind, caring, and outstanding people who live in Alma. Go Raiders and go Alma. I thank God for Alma and pray for Alma each and every day.

I remember Bacon County having some good football teams in the past. Like someone said earlier, Bacon just needs a good coach that will stay. The athletes are there. Good to see Appling, Pierce, and Ware move to the second round of the State Playoffs. Ware seems to have a good chance? I figure Appling and Pierce will go down next round or third round.

I'm no sports fan but I think Alma has done really well with what they have. I came here to visit 13 years ago and I consider it home. Maybe the new school and new surroundings will make a difference. I hope so.

Bacon County has never won a region title in football or hosted a playoff game. Wasn't 1992 the year that Bacon went to Mitchell-Baker for the first round of the playoffs.

Just looked it up. 1991 was the year that Bacon played Mitchell-Baker in the first round of playoffs. Bacon had a region playoff game in 1992 and lost to Waycross. Bacon did not make state playoffs in 1992.

I'm concerned about the seating capacity for the visitors at the new stadium that is being built. At this time the visitors stand appear to seat about half of what the old stands seated. We have had some very good crowds in recent years from visiting schools. It would be a shame to provide inadequate seating and end up having several hundred people with no place to sit. Hopefully, more seats are in the plan.

The hell with the visitors stands, do we have a Football a Coach yet? The BOE needs to get off their rear ends and find a good Football Coach to lead us to the promise land.

Bacon County's only region championship was in 1992. The state records incorrectly show Cook County was the region champions. Coach Bourdeau and others with the school system are aware and trying to get it corrected. Cook and Bacon had identical region records, however because Bacon had one more 2AA victory (against Jeff Davis) Bacon was awarded the region championship. The way the playoffs at that time were bracketed, Bacon, the number 1 seed in the region hosted the number 4 seed Waycross and were defeatd.
