Incumbents out, Write-In

I have spent the last several weeks considering and re-considering my thoughts on our representation in DC, specifically in the form of Rep. Jack Kingston. I think that Kingston has done a decent job through his 16 years as the Representative from the 1st District in voting for the bills that have come before him in the way most of us would have liked him to.
We cannot, however, continue to let him, or any of our elected leaders, coast along choosing between the lesser of two evils. We saw what the lesser of two evils gave us as a candidate during the last presidential election.
For entirely too long, SE Georgia has been relegated to the back rows of American politics. We allow the leaders of San Francisco and Chicago to control the debate, and then Kingston comes along and chooses which option will hurt us the least.
It is time that we have leadership that actually shows leadership! In 16 years, you would think that Rep. Kingston would have gained enough credibility and strength of character to insert himself into the dialog in Washington. That is what we elected him to do! Instead, he has chosen to be an observer, making the news cycle in local newspapers at best.
With the current administration, and the Democrat control of both the House and Senate, we are in nothing short of a Constitutional crisis. Mr. Kingston has done an able job over his past 8 terms, but it is time for us to choose someone who has the passion to say what needs to be said! It is time for us to create total upheaval in Washington and take back our power. We cannot change the world, but I submit that it is time for us to change our local representation.
On January 1, 2010, I will be submitting my announcement to the Waycross Journal Herald that I will be running as a write-in candidate to oppose Mr. Kingston in his reelection.
I have a great job and a great family here in Waycross. I do not need, nor necessarily want, to leave to Washington, and I certainly will not be concerned with staying there. I am not a politician, and do not intend on becoming one. I am doing this because I feel it is time for us to have a government by, for, and of the people like we used to.
I understand that write-in candidates have terrible odds of winning elections. That is fine. My purpose in putting myself out here is to serve as something of a "protest vote", as well as to attempt to force discussion of the issues that are important to the people of SE Georgia. If I can even compel Mr. Kingston to take a stronger stand on some of the critical issues, I will feel that my efforts have been worthwhile.
If you agree that it is time to stand up and take back the local power that is rightfully ours, I ask for your thoughts on the most vital issues. You can follow me on Twitter by searching Colby4congress, and you can email me at colbyforcongress at gmail.com .
Help me reach out to give our families and neighbors the voice that they all deserve.
