I say hire the new black coach he brought in here this year he seems to be a good guy and heard he was the one that held the team together this year after most of the boys got tired of johns the way he treated them just what I heard.

I criticised his coaching in a post on the vent earlier this year, especially his lack of special teams coaching. You would have thought I had cursed the name of Jesus with the responses I got. Bobby Johns is all about Bobby Johns and has always been that way. Any other coach would have been fired for all the "f" bombs he used at the players during practice. A lot of the players lost respect for the man. We need a coach that is about molding the young guys into men and not all about himself. There is a reason he never stays at a school very long, either he wears out his welcome or staying is no longer beneficial to Bobby Johns. It was all about "look at me,,,look how great I am". The man is a legend in his own mind, even the Florida tag on his truck had BOBBYJ. Who puts there name on thier tag. He talks a good game and gets the community fired up, and that put a few more players on the field. But I was never impressed with his coaching. In two years we didn't have a signature win against a good football team. We lost to Clinch, Charlton, Wilcox, Seminole in first year and to Pierce, McIntosh, Benedictine, Vidalia, Screven in second year. In 22 games we beat 2 teams with a winning record, Lanier last year and Toombs this year. His coaching was not the reason Bacon had back to back winning seasons. The fact that he was able to get some more talent on the field is the reason we won games. Football is a great game that can teach a lot of life lessons. Maybe we can find a coach that can bring a winning tradition to Bacon County and have the character to earn the respect of the boys. It is hard to fool the kids and we need a coach that cares more about the kids and a little less about glory for himself.

. Very true I heard that if it had not been for the new black coach can't think of his name that most of the boys would have quit the team because of the way he would treat them

Johns turned the program around and had the stands full of Raider fans. When Coach Johns moved to Alma and was introduced and spoke to all the Raider Football fans at the Blueberry Inn, many of us were asking ourselves why in the hell would a coach of this caliber move to Alma? I think he answered that question by moving so quickly. It was a stepping stone to prove that he is a great Football Coach. Now, a bigger and better school will pay him big money to Coach their football team. I'm not taking anything from Coach Johns, but he was handed a very athletic group of kids. He worked hard to get 100 percent out of them. Let's face the fact that Bacon is not a place that draws great coachs. He is by far the best I ever saw in 40 plus years. I guess we need to figure out why Bacon can't land a great coach that will stay long enough to build a great program? I think we need more kids on the team. Bacon had too many key players playing offense and defense and were wore out by the 4th qtr.
He had been run out of Milton and was needing a job (any job). That is the reason he came to Alma. You where right about him trying to prove how great he is (in his own mind). And for coaches not wanting to come to Alma, that is bull. We had almost 50 coaches apply when Johns was hired.

Maybe im wrong but i believe Bobby Johns was one of the highest paid coaches in AA football and the people of alma ga would have let him got by with murder but with all that said he is a good coach but lets dont forget to give the kids some props were there do. If not for them we have no fooball team. I truely believe this for any team find a coach that your kids believe in not saying you will win state titles but you will be sucessful.

Only real problem here is that the man wanted to leave this weekend and not face the administration or the kids, who have really have not been officially told. However, I heard today that they are not going to let him leave until like the 15th of January. Man don't just quit and leave. Show the kids and people some respect.

Ive been told by several people of the community its around the 6 figure mark and those people are what I wold call really good sources. But I think coach garrison would do a good job or the old def coach that was there when coach johns first started but if were willing to pay the next one what we paid johns we want have a problem getting a winning coach.

Really die hard....you and your really good sources need to verify yoir facts. All salaries are published on the Internet. His salary was $65k. The other coach was getting $90k. Salary doesn't always equate to wins. And these coaches you are pushing...have either been head coaches? What are their records? Where did old def coach go and what is his name?

His name was Jamie Rogers tater tot and yes johns salary was 65k as head coach but he had more than that in his contract. I guess they dont show that online. But if the other coach before johns was making 90k then someone has lost there glasses when that check was wrote i wouldnt have paid him 9k. He is maybe at best a middle school coach if not rec league

What about Coach Owens, he is grounded here in Alma, and has done a fine job with the Middle School team. I really like Coach Garrison and hope he stays, but I am a bit skeptical that he may follow Coach Johns. So I say lets give someone who may stick around a chance. And its not all the coaches responsibilty, we as a community have got to stay behind our boys and support them win or lose. We lose a few games and you can see the number in the stands on Friday night drop. I think thats called band waging.

Let me keep it real for u all, I have heard that Coach Garrison is interested in the job and wants to stay in Alma, I know that the kids respect him. Yes he rents but that means nothing he wants to be here and he know more then any coach in both schools about weightlifting according to the kids. Coach Owens is a good guy but, all you have to do is talk with the kids about the two coaches and they will choose Coach Garrison over him. Coach Garrison is a disciplinarian according to the kids and yet they still love him. I think we should look at the man and give him a shot we could at least keep it going in the same direction. And to coach Johns I am sad, disappointed, but this is the business of coaching. Good luck to you.

Coach owens i hope not his a good person no dought but a middle school coach at best. the middle school has not won a game in two years. Lets be real Garrison is a good coach Rogers that was here is a good coach but none of theses guys are proven head coaches and thats what we need. Like Ive said in earlier post find our boys someone they believe in and wants the best for them and we will be just fine as a football team. oh yeah lets dont forget football is a game but the classroom is what will make or break our kids in life.

Im sure Garrison and Rogers are good guys and would make good coaches. But from a parent perspective I would pick coach owens to be my child's coach. Simply because of what he stands for. A lot of other parents I have talked to feel the same way. we can keep changing coaches every 2 or 3 years or we can invest in someone who has invested in us.

Coach Johns is an adult and therefore has the right to make his own decisions. He decided to leave so we must move forward.

Well some much for that thought if Owens is the guy then we would be changing coaches in 2 or 3 years anyway because winning aludes him. Rodgers ain't interested, leave Suwannee County after one year sounds familiar.

Thanks Lone Ranger you took the words right out of my mouth owens has put in a lot of time for bacon county and he is a good role model for our kids ive never once said that he wasnt but like lone ranger said if he or whoever the next man in charge dosent win. In 3 years or so he want have to leave he will be fired. And if i new who would be best for the job i would say. we need a proven program builder and a winner. And as for the pay ive heard that from board members if there wrong then my bad maybe they dont even know whats going on in our on system.
