yeah.. well i was skating at the hospital today.. since i have no where else to skateboard at, and a man came out and started yelling at me and asked why dont i go somewhere else. i said where do you want me to go? i told him that waycross will have problems with people skating until a park is built in place. im not going to give up a sport due to no "real" public place meant for it. if you do not want me to skate at you office, or business, then do something about it other than to get the police to write me a citation or tell me to leave. get off my back. i want somewhere to skate just like football, baseball, and soccer players have the Recreation dept. to participate in such activities. Skateboarding is no different. The YMCA would be a great place to sponsor a park.. many YMCA's acrossed the USA have started to build free public parks.. OR another idea is to do like how Glynn County got their park on the island.. start a Ware County SkatePark Association to help fund it.(known as Golden Isles Skatepark Association AKA GISPA in glynn county) I am really pushing to have just one small park here in Waycross Georgia. I have met some businessowners that allow me to skate their property during closed hours because they feel like we should have a skatepark too. We have tried writing letters to the city and much more.. We even contacted the Tony Hawk Skatepark Foundation and the Rob Dyrdek Foundation for support and help to pay for it and build it. Both foundations agreed to help fund and build the park, but the city turned down this support and now refuse to build us a park at all.. the least they could do is let us have a small area like the size of a tennis court and allow us to build our own ramps.. I know i am only 16 years old, but i want to do all i can to persuade and inspire skaters and nonskaters of waycross to help support this idea and push the city to act in even the smallest of ways.. if you have any ideas please post them! anything will be helpful.
Thanks!

I think a skate park would be a great idea for all in the future. Most skaters in the area are somewhere in the age of 14-22. Parents should relish at the chance for the community leaders to set aside funds for a skate park. I will name a few.

A skate park would give the skaters a place to ride other than the streets, where there is a the potential for a fatality.

Skateboarding is a great activity and will get them outside and away from the television and internets. Most people are overweight in the south, making them miserable, like some of you on the forum. Let the skaters stay in shape with a skate park.

These skaters could grow up to take care of you one day. Scary thought, considering, I used to be a skater and now practice in a health care. Skaters can grow up to be your doctor, nurse, or local public leader one day.

Some will or already pay taxes.

Kids with hobbies, like skating, fosters good physical and mental development. It even gives them a civic duty to help others interested in skating and teaching them how.

Taxes will come and go, some money is wasted and some is put to good use. Building a skate park is not going to be a waste but a great investment into the local area.

Yep, we need more of everything in Waycross. We need more bussiness, more places to have fun, places atractive to young people. Unfortunately, There is a lot of ignorant people that opposes to everything that is proposed, because they believe that govt has the obligation to create jobs.

Waycross had had bussines opportunities that have been turned down by stupid people.
There is enough money to do both things. people still thinks that govt has to create jobs, let me say it out loud.
IS NOT GOVERNMENT'S RESPONSABILITY TO CREATE JOBS.
They can support bussiness so that they will open up new facilities in certaib areas, which shouldn't cost that much. I believe that a skate park its a great idea.
Waycross needs bussiness and entretainment. maybe that way we will have less drugaddicts, and less pregnant teens.

To whom that said all waycross has is flash foods, fast food, wakmart, etc. You my friend are an idiot. You have the railroad, gatx, carolina skiff, wells fargo, scotbilt, lowes, tons of food establishments, tire kingdom, several huge hotels, simmons, numerous industries all over waycross, i could go on and on and on! You must be one of those people that dont work and claim that there are no jobs...

If there are so many skaters in this town why don't ya'll get together and build your own skate park??? I don't want my tax money going for one and I know a lot of other people who don't either.
Do it on your own dime!!!! NOT the taxpayers!!!!!
Iceman, looks like you are the hammer hitting the nail once again. A skate park sounds like an opportunity for some young entrepreneur with a vision of others paying cash to catch air and skin knees. Like you, I don't see this as a viable taxpayer project.
